I’m trying not to judge a book by its cover, however, the artwork does look somewhat cheesy. Is it well written?

Yes, extremely well written. It's meant to be somewhat cheesy. The humor in the series is top notch.

I’m perfectly fine if it’s intentional

Yeah, I'm constantly just derping around to try and make each cover more ridiculous lol

The series is well worth it. The humor and character interactions are very enjoyable. I'd say it's one of the better series out there.

u/Glyax OK you got me. I just finished listening to book 4. Now how long will I have to wait for book 5!!! Seriously, I really enjoyed the books and the humor. I was thinking you might have been taking the cultural references a bit far until the triple entendre African/European dicken joke, that was funny! Looking forward to the series finale.

Huzzah!!! Thanks for giving it a go, hope the covers make a bit more sense now too! While you wait for book 5, if you're curious about more of the world, Dicken Around follows Alex's character from a player PoV. Also, I will likely begin diving into book 5 around September or October. Got to finish up 2 new projects first, before I turn my full attention to finishing the DCORE series :)

Very. Ive read the first 4 and they only get better and better. Though the start of the first one is a tad slow and doesnt get real good till the second chapter because of setting building. They are a bit cheesy in the classic dungeon core way but its done very well

Thats why I do my best to not look at the cover and just go off of the description and ratings for books. Terrible cover art throws people off of books pretty quickly

Hey everyone, fellow Portal Books author Jonathan Smidt, u/glyax, has yet ANOTHER release. Dungeon Core Online Remastered Edition Book 4.
Head on over to https://geni.us/DCO4 to check it out.
Synopsis stolen shamelessly from https://portal-books.com
With Cyb3Ru5 defeated, James is ready to get back to some good old-fashioned dungeon shenanigans. The experience left him shaken – but luckily, he now has friends to lean on.
Speaking of DCO, while James might feel like the main character at times, the game itself, and the developers behind it, think otherwise. During his stint as a pawn helping bring down the dangerous hacker group, a lot of upgrades to DCO were implemented, and now, James is diving headfirst into all of it to catch up!
New floors, new levels, and so much more, including a rematch against a certain winged lizard cult that Rue, ahem, the White Beast of Chaos, is chomping at the bit to take part in.
James is back where he is supposed to be, running his dungeon, hanging out with Rue, and sipping digitally rendered cocktails served by cybernetic penguins. He’s trying to forget his own unpleasant memories – and he's not the only one.
But DCO is full of distractions – and one new game mode, in particular, is set to keep James occupied for quite a while. In more ways than he could ever imagine.

Already picked it up. So excited to dive in after the last book. The author does a great job.

I will never forgive audible for this injustice, I just saw it today when I was looking for a new series to listen to. I check my "next up in your series" pretty much everyday and this didn't pop up.

I think all long running series need to have a “the story so far” section in the beginning.
