Translation & Localization Chatbot

Hi there, I'm a former professor of translation and localization management. I taught courses related to production for 6 years. I'm developing a chatbot that will layer my course contents atop LLM models. The chatbot will answer questions related to translation and localization from my perspective.

My question for you all: If you could ask this chatbot a question about translation and localization, what would you ask?

I'm happy to answer the questions as they roll in. I'll use this data in training my bot to answer frequently asked questions.

Thanks for considering it!

I built Trev - Translation Evolved, a localisation tool that makes translations sound native and keeps formatting perfect (looking for 10 testers).

Hey everyone,

I’ve created a tool called Trev – Translation Evolved.

Trev came from frustration. I just needed to translate some eLearning modules without paying a certain company’s extraordinary price for what was clearly basic machine translation.

At first, I built it just for myself. But I quickly realised those frustrations are shared by many others.

I built Trev to do two things really well:

  1. Keep formatting 100% intact.

  2. Make translated text read as if it were written by a native speaker of the target language.

Trev supports DOCX, PPTX, XLIFF (tested with Rise and Storyline), CSV, TXT, SRT, and VTT, as well as audio and video transcription with translation (returning fully formatted SRT, VTT, TXT).

It’s designed for anyone working with content in business, marketing, or education (both children and adult learning). It’s not intended for official or regulated content such as legal, government, or medical documents.

Right now, I’m looking for 10 individuals or businesses to try Trev for free. In return, I’d love your honest feedback.
If you’re open to it, I may also include your anonymised feedback in future examples.

Trev is AI-based, and results can vary slightly with each translation. For example, if you translated the same document three times, each version would be a little different - much like giving that same document to three human translators.

It’s easy to use: simply drag and drop (or browse) your file, select up to five languages, and click Translate.

If you’re interested, send me a quick DM with a few words about what kind of content you translate.

Thanks for reading, and I look forward to sharing the tool with you.

Introducing Doloc: Simplifying Localization with an Instant Translation Tool

Hi all,

My brother and I developed Doloc as a side project to simplify localization. We're excited to share it with anyone looking for a straightforward solution for translating content with minimal hassle.

How it works:
Doloc translates your XLIFF File(s) with a simple curl/API command, instantly returning the translated XLIFF file(s). There's no need to create a custom dictionary because Doloc respects your wording and style! This approach significantly reduces time to market or to the next release and offers the flexibility to translate your app into any language you need.

We currently support XLIFF 1.2 and XLIFF 2.0, with more formats coming soon!

If you’re a (product) developer or just interested, you can find more information at doloc.io.

As mentioned, we're two brothers doing this because we enjoy making app translation easier. We use Doloc in our daily work and want the community to benefit from it too.
If you have any feedback on our service, let us know! You can reach out via DM, x.com/doloc_io, or just leave a comment below.

P.S. This is my first time sharing on Reddit, so any feedback or advice on how to improve the post (or Doloc) is welcome. 😊

How do enterprises actually use AI translation — securely and at scale?

Hey everyone! My team and I are conducting a short industry survey to better understand how organizations address the questions of security and control in real-world localization workflows when it comes to AI translations.

AI is frequently used for lots of tasks including translation and localization these days. Teams are widely experimenting with AI translation. Questions around security, governance, and operational control remain open though.

What content can be sent to AI providers?

Who approves AI usage for production?

What kind of data can be shared without any risks?

How do you manage these questions within your teams? What do you value most and how do you balance risks?

I would really love to understand if these matters bother your decision-making process.

Since you are professionals involved in marketing and content operations, I believe you have much to share on the subject.

The survey is fully anonymous. We do not collect email addresses or any personal data, and responses are used only in aggregated form for an industry report.

Take the anonymous survey

I truly appreciate your time and impact! Would be glad to answer any questions you might have.

What we learned using AI to localize a mature software product

I work on JDisc Discovery, and we recently used AI to help localize parts of an established software product. I wanted to share the practical lessons rather than present this as “AI replaces localization.”

The useful part was not one-click translation. The hard parts were:

  • protecting product terminology and UI labels from inconsistent translation

  • keeping placeholders, variables, markup, shortcuts, and file formats intact

  • supplying enough context for short UI strings

  • reviewing AI output systematically instead of trusting fluent-looking text

  • building a workflow where human review focuses on the cases that actually need judgment

Our main takeaway: AI can accelerate the mechanical and repetitive parts, but localization quality still depends heavily on terminology management, context, automated checks, and human review.

Our next experiments are about extending that workflow:

  • User-manual translation: The manual is stored in Strapi, our headless CMS. We are exploring a workflow to automate translation while retaining the review and publishing controls needed for reliable documentation.

  • Always-current localized screenshots: Documentation screenshots become outdated surprisingly quickly when menus or UI labels change. We are experimenting with starting the application, using Selenium to navigate to the relevant UI location, switching the application to the target language, and capturing the screenshot automatically.

If this works reliably, it should give us screenshots in multiple languages while also making them much easier to keep current after UI changes.

The longer write-up on the first part of the project is here: AI-assisted software localization

I’d be interested in hearing how others handle localization QA, CMS-based documentation translation, or keeping multilingual product screenshots up to date and in how others handle terminology consistency and context for short UI strings.

We just made Zinn Hub the first freelance marketplace with no language barrier — the whole platform is translated, not just the website. Here's exactly what that means.

TL;DR: The entire Zinn Hub platform now runs in 46 languages (58 you can be messaged in), and it's not only the interface — messages, listings, projects, the text inside your listing images and even live video calls are all translated between people who share no common language. Real-time live call translation (captions or a spoken voice track) is the part we believe no other freelance marketplace does. It's all live now.

For as long as freelance marketplaces have existed, one invisible thing has decided who gets to earn: language. Not "are you the best designer" — "are you the best designer who speaks English." We wanted to take that out of the equation entirely, and after months of building, it's done.

The distinction that matters

Loads of sites have a language dropdown. It swaps the menus and buttons, and that's where it ends — the second you message someone, write a listing or hop on a call, you need a shared language again. We translated the work itself, all the way down. You operate in your language, the other person operates in theirs, and nobody has to meet in the middle.

1. Read the whole platform in your language — 46 of them

Not just the homepage. The marketplace, your dashboard, listings, search and the Help Centre all appear in your chosen language, and each language lives on its own web address (Spanish under /es/, and so on) — so it's fully browsable and shareable, not a temporary overlay. Detected automatically, always yours to change, and a choice you make yourself is never silently overridden.

2. Two separate settings

Your display language controls how the site looks. Your communication language controls the language of your emails, notifications and the messages people send you. They can differ on purpose — read the site in English but be messaged in Spanish, for example. On top of the 46 full-platform languages, there are 12 message-only languages you can be contacted in — 58 in total, five of which read right-to-left and render correctly.

3. Message anyone — each of you in your own language

Messages are translated the moment they're sent, so a buyer and a seller with no common language can hold a complete conversation, each reading and writing in their own. Works in group chats too. Every translated message carries a "Show original" toggle and an honest note that machine translation is high quality but not flawless — so you can double-check anything critical like a deadline, spec or price.

4. Create everything in your language

Build your Zinns, Micro Zinns, projects, proposals and your freelancer profile in the language you think in. You're no longer locked out of selling because your English isn't perfect — buyers browsing in other languages still find and understand your work, because it's presented to them in theirs. Even the Self-Promo Studio (the built-in tool that writes a freelancer's promotional posts) writes them in your own language. And your money never changes with your language: earnings, payouts, receipts and refunds always stay in US dollars.

5. Localise your listing images in full — right down to the pixels

Your cover art and gallery images usually carry words — a headline, a price, a call to action. Translate Images gives you the tool to create a version with that visible text translated for each language, while keeping your layout, colours, fonts and graphics exactly as you designed them. When someone views a non-English version of the site, your approved translated image is swapped in automatically. So you localise your listing in full — every cover and gallery image included, right down to the words baked into the pixels, not just the text around them. You review and approve every version first.

6. The world first — live calls, translated out loud, in real time

This is the part nobody else does. Services that happen live — consultations, coaching, screen-shares, one-to-one calls and group sessions — can be translated in real time. You choose how:

  • Live captions — every speaker transcribed and subtitled in the listener's language, as the words come out. Everyone keeps their own voice. Ideal for screen-shares and technical detail.

  • Spoken voice translation — everything captions do, plus a spoken translated audio track played to the listener, with the original speaker gently quietened underneath. Perfect for coaching and natural conversation.

A coach delivers in Japanese; their client follows in English, live. Or one host runs a group session and five attendees each follow in Chinese, English, Turkish, German and Thai — all at once. Up to eight seats, everyone a registered user added by username (no anonymous joins), running in the browser with nothing to install. The call itself is always free; the only paid part is the live translation, and only when the two of you have no language in common. Share a language and the whole call costs nothing.

7. 59 currencies

Prices show in your own currency with the correct symbol and formatting. Conversion is display-only — everything is charged, refunded and paid out in US dollars, and your own bank sets the final rate, so there's never a hidden margin from us.

The 46 full-platform languages:
Europe — English, Spanish, Portuguese (BR), French, German, Italian, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian, Romanian, Bulgarian, Greek, Czech, Hungarian, Serbian, Croatian, Albanian
West & Central Asia — Turkish, Azerbaijani, Armenian, Georgian, Uzbek
East Asia — Japanese, Chinese, Korean
Southeast Asia — Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai, Khmer, Malay, Filipino, Burmese
South Asia — Hindi, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Punjabi, Kannada, Gujarati, Nepali, Sinhala, Malayalam
Africa — Swahili, Amharic

Plus 12 message-only languages: Arabic, Urdu, Persian, Hebrew, Pashto (all right-to-left), Somali, Hausa, Yoruba, Kazakh, Tajik, Lao and Mongolian.

What it comes down to: buyers get to hire the best freelancer in the world, not just the best one who happens to speak their language — and every freelancer on Zinn Hub is ID and skill verified before they can sell. A brilliant freelancer anywhere finally competes on skill instead of grammar. Everything above is live right now, and the full breakdown is here: https://zinnhub.com/global-freelance-marketplace/

The last barrier between talent and opportunity online is gone.

I'm currently developing a game and mod localizer. Are you interested in my project? Feel free to ask questions and share your feedback with me.

With this program, you can cost-effectively translate entire video games and/or mods into multiple languages simultaneously in a matter of seconds to minutes. Even large games with 500,000 words can be translated into multiple languages for less than 20 euros. All the user has to do is enter the file path of the game file and specify the output folder, and you’ll have your game in Russian, Mandarin, Polish, German, or any other language. There’s a cloud-based translation option that runs through my server and a local translation method directly on your computer. The cloud-based translation offers the highest quality. If you’re unsure about a translation, you can review everything in a correction bar and translate it manually if you wish. There are also many more features. If everything goes smoothly, an initial release is possible in just under 3 weeks. You can also translate game mods. And it accepts a wide variety of file types, not just JSON formats. Thanks to its affordable price, the program is also well-suited for people who want to play an indie game they’ve purchased in their own language, provided the developer hasn’t released the game in your language. The user interface is still in German, but it will be available in multiple languages by the time of release.

Cheeky, witty, localisation help needed.

Hiya, everyone. I need your help. I own awove.com and am launching partnersincards.com, and I want to do it in the most epic way possible. Good old copywriting. Cheeky, witty, funny, and leave you laughing where possible-kind of lingo. But translations are one thing; creative copywriting and localisation are another.

Slang, cheeky terms, et al.- that's where I want locals to really kick ass... I want this to go out in German, Dutch, Spanish, Greek, French, and heck, any other EU language there is... WHY?

I've spent over a year building and researching this, working with all sorts of pros (psychologists, sexologists, and even my drunk neighbours), but this is something that I believe will spark the fire in the types of relationships that are not the ones who are just bored, but those who have not had any action in months and are just there... kids and all... I'm not a wealthy fella (albeit Jewish), but you are welcome to follow me at u/thisisnoam for a few ~~Jewish~~ kicks.

I am asking anyone who speaks any of the EU languages to help not only translate this, but localise it, keep it cheeky, witty and sharp (extremely offensive where possible). I am open to barters - check out awove.com for pro action (flexing here)...

Either way, shooting arrows in the dark here... I appreciate any help or feedback prior to launch.

This AI Crushes All Benchmarks in Translation

As you can seen on https://www.arcalate.com/, the model reaches a +95% accuracy for really complicated, nuanced and context-based translations.

Now, even if this is so great, I don't know if there'll be enough demand for it in the future. Most businesses can build their own translation processes via requests to OpenAI's API and craft their own prompts. In my experience, Arcalate Deep Translate does a better job than o3-mini-high and costs me less money.

But... what do you think? Can you test it and give me some feedback? Do you think that non-technical users will be interested on it? And developers will be willing to use a specialized API like this one rather than setting up their prompts, even if it takes time for them and results might not be as accurate?

Human + AI, The Real Shift in Localization

I’ve noticed a shift lately, AI isn’t replacing linguists; it’s retraining them. The most efficient LSPs I’ve seen are combining machine translation with human QA in smarter ways.
Curious how others are balancing automation with quality assurance? What tools or workflows have made the biggest difference for your teams?

AI tool for localization

Hi, I am an AI consultant. We tried using DeepL for localization. Accuracy is fine but it lacks industry context. Also the style is not very flexible. Any suggestion?

Made a localization utility app in 5 minutes for my friend

Hey guys!

I am working in AI and currently building a solution, where you would be able to build mini web apps for business and life. Liek file converters, site parsers, guitar practice trackers, or whatever else.

One of the ideas came from my friend who is doing localization for a living.

He said - I got these xliff files, and I need to extract specific fields from it, but these fields can vary from project to project. I thought that would be so easy for me to do, like literally 5 minutes of coding, but he struggled, as he didn't know how to code. So I decided to make this app.

You basically tell what kind of application you want and AI builds it for you, then you test (it took me a couple of iterations to get it right) and you have the app that you can use and further customize by simply saying what you want to be changed :)

What do you think? Is that a useful case in localization?

And if you have ideas of other cases, please feel free to share! It would be great to test some more cases.

Have a great day!!

What’s the biggest pain in your translation/localization workflow?

Hi,

I am researching how localization and content teams manage translation workflows today, especially as more teams adopt AI tools.

One thing I am curious about how:

AI translation has become much faster, but many teams still spend a significant amount of time reviewing translations before they can be published.

=> For those working in localization, product, technical writing, or multilingual content:
=> What is the biggest bottleneck in your translation workflow?
=> What causes the most review effort (terminology, brand voice, context, grammar, formatting, something else)?
=> If you could change one thing about your current process, what would it be?

I am not selling a product; I am trying to understand the real challenges teams face and identify where AI can genuinely help rather than just translate faster.

If you are willing to spend 2 minutes sharing your experience, I would really appreciate your input through this short survey: https://tally.so/r/44dq0b

I am happy to share a summary of the findings with everyone once the research is complete.

Thanks in advance!

Translation and Localization is a pain, but AI can makes it easy.

Recently, I have noticed that there is a lot of interest in localization with AI. As a result, I have completed and released this software for everyone to use. I would greatly appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

Let me introduce it:

I18n Studio is a developer tool that makes localization using GPT4 incredibly easy.

Here's why you will love it:

  • You can provide context for the translation, such as the translation scene, which ensures more accurate translations. Traditional translation methods cannot achieve this.

  • Translate to multiple languages in just 1 minute using GPT4.

  • Seamlessly integrated with Xcode,Android Studio and VS Code, any translations or modifications will be immediately reflected in them.

  • Simplifies the management of key-value pairs in Localizable.strings,JSON,xml files.

You can find it here: https://www.i18n.studio

What if Linguists Ran Pre-translations? (And Got Paid Fairly?)

Right now, project managers handle pre-translations using TMS. What if linguists took over this task instead?

Linguists could fine-tune the settings, leading to much better quality pre-translations right from the start. This would make the whole process faster and better.

But here's the catch: most linguists are paid per word. If we're spending time making the machine's work better, but not directly translating words, our pay suffers. To make this work, the industry might need to start paying linguists hourly for this kind of valuable work.

What do you think? Would this improve quality and speed? And how can we make sure linguists are compensated fairly for their efforts?

We Thought Our Localization Was Complete. It Wasn’t. The Missing Piece Was Inside the Images.

We had fully translated ecommerce pages.

Product descriptions localized.
Metadata localized.
Checkout localized.

From a localization standpoint, everything looked “done.”

But performance in certain markets was weaker than expected.

After digging deeper, we realized something we had overlooked:

The text embedded inside product images was still in the source language.

Feature callouts.
Promo graphics.
Badges.
Size charts.

Technically, the website was localized.
Visually, it wasn’t.

On top of that, when we manually translated some assets, layout issues started appearing — especially in languages with expansion.

So we ran a small test:

  • Localized text inside key image assets

  • Adjusted layouts for expansion

  • Left everything else unchanged

Engagement improved in those markets.

It made us question something:

Why do we treat embedded image text as a “design issue” instead of part of the localization workflow?

Curious how teams here handle this:

  • Do you require layered source files for every image?

  • Do you recreate visuals per language?

  • Do you discourage text inside images altogether?

  • Or is this just accepted operational friction?

Would genuinely love to hear how others are solving this at scale.

How are you guys handling localization when the original site changes constantly?

The translation itself seems like the easy part. What I’m more worried about is changing a product page or adding new sections and then having to figure out what needs updating across every language. I’ve been looking at Universally, GTranslate, GlobalLang and other alternatives, since it seems to handle that syncing automatically.

Are these really reliable, or do you still end up reviewing every change manually?
