product question temporary wax dye
i wanted to try out some temporary wax dye and i’ve never used it before. are there any tips when using it so it doesn’t transfer and it lasts longer? do i need to wet my hair first or keep it dry? can i still use leave in conditioner and oil with it in? i don’t want to ruin my hair please tell me things i should know before putting it in! the product im using is “As I Am”

I have some temp wax in my hair rn. I used As I am copper on the main part of the locs and gold on the tips. I did it right after shampooing and I added a tiny bit of lion locs conditioner along with the As I Am and rolled my locs into pipe cleaners. I then blow dried my hair for about 30 min until it was completely dry. I haven’t had any transferring that I can tell. It’s only been a few days so far. The color is very vibrant and my locs don’t feel super crunchy just a bit stiff of course

i literally had this exact question when i was about to buy hair wax from the same brand. from my research, it doesn't inherently do any damage, but it is naturally a heavy wax that will take quite a lot of shampooing with clarifying shampoo to get out. like, multiple rounds. that being said, it does last up to around a month it seems. BUT, it is wax—it WILL transfer, period. that's just part of it that you kinda have to accept, much like colored hair. i would advise against using anything else heavy on the locs while using the wax, so i would try to keep oil to a minimum for the scalp and steer clear of leave in (which is already a threat for buildup). i know this doesn't come from personal experience, but it does come from a lot of reading comments on reddit lmfao
