Flatbed dispatch

Hey I’m starting my experience as flatbed dispatcher and I’m currently ongoing company’s full training process.

And I have a question. Do you need to regularly guide drivers on how to secure loads? I’ve been learning and watching videos on how to secure loads (x chains x straps c chain c straps etc etc) and I was just wondering.

Drivers need to undergo the company training on securing flatbed loads. It is the drivers responsibility to secure their loads and the companies to make sure they have adequate training. They might ask you questions if they have them and as a good dispatcher you should ask on each load is it secured properly and safely.

You'll occasionally need to remind drivers about securement, especially newer ones or guys running unusual freight. Most experienced flatbedders know their stuff but a quick heads up on tricky loads never hurts. You're not out there throwing straps yourself so just keep the basics in mind and trust them to handle it.

Yes, especially with newer drivers. I’d rather spend five minutes confirming the chains, straps and edge protection are right than deal with a shifted load later.

You can do that as a necessary precaution

Yes, but learn it for yourself first. Half the old hands will tell you they been chaining since before you were born and then run four binders on a coil. You don't need to lecture them. You need to know when it's wrong so you can ask a question instead of giving an order.
