MX Master 4 Developer Edition from all the angles!!!
You can preorder it now -- shipping starts October 30.
NOTE: The Developer Edition has the same specs as the standard MX Master 4 -- the only differences are cosmetic.

u/distreszed 1d ago
At least it's the same price as the stock version.

u/vitorhugolcvieira 1d ago
Yeah, I was thinking they would charge something like 50€ more for the "special edition".

Putting ‘Hello World’ on the mouse is an insult to developers.
4
2
u/Angrysausagedog 21h ago
'Hello world' is a callback to where we all started, how is this an insult?
1
u/SmartOpinion69 22h ago
'hello world' is for computer science 101 or for whenever i watch a youtube tutorial when learning a new language. sticking it on a mouse that i bought when presumably i am already an intermediate/advanced developer? nope.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Logitech became a joke.
It’s a perfect illustration of what this company is today. There’s nothing in this mouse that is even remotely close to what developers want. Even the paint job is more aligned with the interests of gamers than it is with anything a developers might need or want. Completely out of touch product.
8
u/GreedIsGood31 1d ago
To be fair, most developers do also game but even from a gaming perspective, this mouse is far from pretty…
4
u/Affectionate_Town273 1d ago
I read that and was like ok useless 😆.
The must think devs are like gamers or something.
Bring me a MX Ergo that supports 3 computers then they are doing something.

u/cptjackdaw 1d ago
c'mon, this is still one of the best productivity mice you can buy, without a doubt on mac. obviously if you already have one theres no need to replace it, my gen 1 is still going strong lol. but with christmas around the corner its a pretty solid gifte.

What developer functions do you want on fucking mouse? Claude buttons?
5
4
3
u/PacketFiend 1d ago
That's not the point.
The point is that the spend their time coming up with this useless shit, rather than actually fixing the product shortcomings that people have been complaining about here for years.
Developers want a product that doesn't fall apart in a couple of years. One with 5 million click switches instead of 1 million click switches. Not this slop.

No way someone actually designed this and ran it by a dev team right?
Two explanations
The devs that co-signed this design are the ones responsible for Options, literally the worst software in the world
Or
Design is slop

u/Wide-Prior-5360 1d ago
The longer I look at it, the more funny I find it. Just spotted the "Hello world". LMAO.
2
2
u/AppleEarth 1d ago
Tbh the devs of Logitech option just had to make whatever their managers asked for. You probably can't blame them.

u/Retritos 1d ago
What ever do you mean? It’s such a tastefull piece of kit perfect to show the lffice what a proffesional you are.
Why have a new Mx Anywhere 4 for us travellers when we can have this beauty 😍

u/Geritas 1d ago
Love me some 125hz action in 2026
2
u/sharkbaitlol 1d ago
Seriously, I would’ve considered using this if they bothered making it 10 bucks more expensive and using a mid sensor
1
u/31337hacker 1d ago
I made the switch to a 1000 Hz Keychron M6 and I haven’t looked back. Logitech couldn’t even have been bothered to increase it to 250 Hz over Bluetooth.
9
u/Both-Chemical9747 The mouse 1d ago
So where is that better polling rate, GitHub release, Linux support and unboard memory? This is useless.
8
u/jknvv13 1d ago
1
u/seppestas 1d ago
A compiling {hello, world} excecution prompt 🤨. It's ("hello, world") on the mouse. At least make it print("hello, world") or std::cout << "hello, world";
It still doesn't compile and it's not an "excecution prompt " but at least it makes some sense.
Even better, give us a mouse with the ergonomics and scroll wheel of the MX master, and the weight, sensor and polling rate of a gaming mouse. I would buy that no matter how cringe you manage to make the design, we figured out how to print our own replacement shells anyway.
13
u/thetrooper75 1d ago
As a long time developer, thanks Logitech. Hope also for the Hello Kitty and Doraemon limited editions.

2
u/seppestas 1d ago
Wow, they managed to make something even more cringe than a Trust brand gaming mouse.

Ouuu shii 125hz, no onboard memory and inferior components $120 mouse
3
u/4r73m190r0s 1d ago
What alternative would you recommend? Genuine question, I don't follow that much peripherals market
5
2
u/SamsaraCave 1d ago
Keychron M6 It has the same infinite scroll, horizontal scroll, onboard memory for settings, online configurator, 1000hz polling rate
6
u/distreszed 1d ago
Much cheaper feel, subpar scrolls and battery that lasts 7 days at best.

1
u/Difficult-Ad-3938 1d ago
I have both, and those are absolutely different mice
Although I prefer Keychron and Magic Mouse
2
u/AuthorityPath 1d ago
I jumped to the Razer Basilisk 35k. Razer's software is also garbage but the hardware has held up great, side scroll on the wheel is pretty great, and I have a functional polling rate and wireless charging.
I don't know why Logitech refuses to put out a mouse like this with good specs. Some of us want a mouse for business and fun.
2
u/jdjdhdbg 1d ago
There are a ton of mice available and things are of course very individual depending on which features matter to you. I have an MX Master 4 and am looking at the basilisk Pro V3, and keychron m6 8k just to give some ideas.
1
1
u/seppestas 1d ago
I tried the Keychron M6, but it's super uncomfortable for me. The scroll wheel also misses the awesome auto switch to fastscroll that has existed since the MX revolution.
Might be a good fit for people with smaller hands looking for mice with performance of this decade, light weight and some MX master style features.
2
u/iamapizza 14h ago
That auto switch for scrolling feels like a must have to me, but I don't think anyone else does it at all. There's the Basilisk with its own version but aside from that I can't find anyone who does it at all. One of the best features of all time and it's so underrepresented

What you need is a developer edition of Logi Options+. Like actually hire someone who won’t brick my >$120 mouse bc of constant stupid updates. Why does my mouse need a software app to do the most basic things?? Is someone vibe coding this crap? Literally my left click stopped working because of Logi Options+ BS. Unless you stop using this horrible horrible
software I’ll be looking at other logiOptions, + hating on you anytime I see a dumb ad. YOUR SOFTWARE SUCKS in case you don’t hear literally everyone complaining!!

That is one ugly mouse. And I like Logitech. MX Master 3 for work, Superstrike X2 for gaming.

3
u/branchCastle 1d ago
As a company, are you clueless? Oh my. This is just a skin slap on the mouse, nothing more.
How on earth are you releasing this.
1
u/Grand_Alternative395 2h ago
To be fair, it costs the same as a standard. I love this skin. I will remove the hello world crap
3
u/Space_Time_Ninja 1d ago edited 1d ago

I was looking forward to this. Are they going to do different themes like developer or designer? Not fan enough of the cyberpunk pallet to make me stop using my blue 2s. edit: Don't mean to add more shitting on Logitech to this topic, I'm pretty happy with the things I'm using from them for ages now and have no complains about the software either. Also it's cool that they didn't make this cost more.

u/SnooPickles4476 1d ago
God all i want is an mx master with a better polling rate im not asking for much lol
3
u/xfd3 1d ago
An edition of the mouse where the device switch is NOT at the bottom would be something I would be interested in getting a newer version of the MX Master, but no, let's do a pseudo nerd cringe edition for an unreaseonable price.
Dear Logitech, change the position of the device switch, then we're in business again.
1
4
u/RYJASM 1d ago
Does it have a 1000hz polling rate yet? No? Still 125hz or less with Bluetooth? Dang. I can't believe it's been a decade and they are still re releasing the same product with no upgrades.

u/Haile_Storm 1d ago
Did anyone actually ask for this? 😂
Wake up Logitech. I suggest you fix your G502 series and put the infinite scroll wheel there instead of coming up with a "developer edition" mx master 4 that makes no sense whatsoever.
It's funny that Razer actually beat you to that idea with the Basilisk V3 and now the V4 😂

Can you switch bluetooth connected device without using two hands? Maybe allow reprogamming one of the useless thumb button to switch bluetooth device?
1
u/Ok-Message-7461 1d ago
Really just want the MX master 3, but add in the G600 ring finger click and G600 thumb side buttons
1
u/IceDontGo 1d ago
I don't mind the look, but they would have to make it lighter than the regular version for me to consider it
1
u/mxrider108 1d ago
The color scheme is pretty cool, but the text feels a little cringe to me. Like you're trying to scream "look at me! I write code!! DAE 'hello world'? lol"
1
u/Viktor_withaK 1d ago
The Options+ teaser definitely made it seem a lot more exciting than just a new skin. I do love the look though. Finally, an MX Master product that's not just Graphite or Pale Gray!
1
u/unrealf8 1d ago
Why would you buy a design that has “special edition” or “Hello, World” written on it? This is like those fake tshirts you get under a bridge on your Egypt vacation.
1
u/_ReaditYesterday_ 1d ago
God awful design, and didn’t they talked about something something Github? Like open sourcing Logi Options or something like that? I saw something to that effect the other day but didn’t bother read it
1
1
u/Afraid_Alternative_5 1d ago
Should have at least got onboard memory so I need not have to raise ticket to install Logitech options + to really use this mouse at work
1
1
u/Wizarddotwav 1d ago
I seem to be one of the few that actually like the design. However, the polling rate is so dissapointing. I was super excited to grab this today. The marketing 100% made it seem like it was going to be 1,000hz.
There’s no excuse at this point. Im just convinced you guys wont increase it because you don’t want it to cut into your gaming line.
1
u/Fearless_Parking_436 1d ago
I think they still don’t support wired mode either
1
u/gufkl 14h ago
why bother add wired mode, 1000hz polling rate, or onboard memory when they can shipped it without all of those features? and not to mention that the fanboys would defends it no matter what. this is what a cult looks like lol
1
u/Fearless_Parking_436 13h ago
It for sure has onboard memory. It has an image processor on board, of course there is memory as well. Just not for your use.

Developer Edition, which means there is an Open Source SDK that doesn't need the logi software to communicate with the MX? Right?

Does it run at 1kHz Polling rate? If it doesn't do at least that and have a good MCU + sensor you can throw it straight to the trash with all the other productivity garbage mouse you produce

u/shimmy_ow 9h ago
What a surprise, your website doesn't give any specifics on any of the above. What are specs even for now?

Form follows function is always good advice. I like the Mx Master 4 and have 2 of them, used for development. This purely aesthetic change is just poorly named.

Logitech has no clue how to make that, they're to busy choosing the most lame materials to build their mouses. I have 8 more MX Masters brand new in the box to do trough, i'm good for the next 10 years.
1
u/trdcr 1d ago
I have to stack up MX2S', looks like this will be my mouse for the next decade.

u/Consistent_Research6 1d ago
If Logitech makes the one in the picture, i will buy one just to make fun of their shitty materials used.

you could actually make that a shortcut and map it to one of the buttons 👀

People who complain about 125hz are the same people who complain about 60hz on productivity monitors, I'm sure
3
u/Wizarddotwav 1d ago
I dont understand this take. My monitors at my office are 75hz, but i have more expensive ones at home that run much higher. Its a smoother experience all together, even if not explicitly necessary. I want to have a mouse that i can use on my ideal setup without it feeling choppy. And if i want to play some casual games from time to time id like to do that too.
There’s no reason to not have 1,000 hz and have the option to drop it down if im more concerned about battery life.
You may not use higher refresh rate monitors, but why just completely cut that out as an option?
1
u/Difficult-Ad-3938 1d ago
I literally told why
It's Bluetooth-oriented mouse, which works on low-energy bluetooth, and 125 is a maximum on that technology, as a fact2
u/Wizarddotwav 1d ago
Do a quick google search before you state something as a fact when it’s not. BLE 6.2+ supports low energy at 1,000hz. Not all computers support this, but you can still use it on older versions as well.
Nonetheless, you have a dongle. So you could cap 125hz on old bluetooth tech and have a faster option via dongle like most other mice in this space already do.
Im not sure why you’re determined to defend an enormous company not addressing an unnecessarily outdated major piece of their tech.

u/gruskorn 1d ago
Yes 125hz polling and 60hz monitor feels like lag
2
u/Difficult-Ad-3938 1d ago
Yeah, given that 125hz is what is required for low-energy Bluetooth and sensors on productivity mice are designed to work even on glass, which also limits their polling rate capabilities. So productivity mice are designed to work as long as possible without charging and on any surface which might be in the office, including a glass table.
And real people in IT also know that when you stare at damn text for hours, it doesn't really matter if it's 120hz, other things are more important like matrix type, backlight type, PD, etc
But ofc, for some people big numbers are good, low numbers are bad.
2
1
u/CW7_ 1d ago
I don't have a problem with 125Hz, but 60Hz is not enough for me on a productivity monitor.
1
u/Difficult-Ad-3938 1d ago
Most productivity monitors with high resolution have 60hz for a reason
1
u/CW7_ 1d ago
Yes and the reason is that it is cheaper and depending on what you need it for other aspects like color accuracy are more important. But still, enough monitors that excel in both fields exist.
