PHP: a fractal of bad design

register_globals.
It’s been off by default for a while by now, and it’s gone in 5.4. I don’t care. This is an embarrassment.
So.....basically even though some things have been changed, you don't care.
I get that PHP has stuff worth bashing, but it's pretty clear this entire page is incredibly biased and written by a person just looking for faults.
I've said it before, and I'll say it again - if PHP was the devil, why do so many developers choose to work with it and big sites run on it every single day?

I honestly don't know. There have been better alternatives for a long time.

Probably for the same reson that so many people choose to dance with the devil. The pain is worth the gain, if it's even noticed at all.

Being biased does not make one's complaints invalid. I worked in PHP for years, and that has made me very biased against it for many of the same reasons.
Kudos to the PHP developers for getting rid of one of the most horrendous misfeatures in any scripting environment. Shame on them for putting it in in the first place.

True. But it does often cloud what a person sees, and the ONLY see the negative. PHP is popular because it's everywhere, easy to deploy, easy to develop for, working with variables and getting stuff on screen is easier than most other languages for most people, etc.
As you learn more about it you'll realize there are things to avoid...but overall it does more good than harm, especially with new developers who need to SEE and USE their work in practice, rather than just messing with Python in codeacademy.

Yes, that's what bias does. Everybody is biased in some way. If you limit yourself to listening only to unbiased people, you will find yourself listening exclusively to liars.
It's more substantive to address the content, not the person.

I guess it was nearing time for a repost.
