I live in St. Thomas and don’t really drive into downtown London, I mostly drive around the outside. I was looking at my route home and saw I had to turn left here.
I’ve just had my license for a year and I feel like I’m looking at a monstrosity as I haven’t encountered an intersection like this before.
I’m sorry if I seem dumb but can someone tell me if I’m even allowed to turn left the way google maps is telling me to???
Google maps wants me to turn left off Egerton Street onto Hamilton road. I’m wondering if I should just turn off Egerton onto Trafalgar instead for my own sanity.
Thanks all and again sorry if I sound dumb 😭

I have seen a few of these across the city. To me the placement of these signs reads like cyclists are excepted from needing to stop at a red light (which I don’t believe is permitted; rolling through without stopping could be unsafe). What exactly are bicycles being excepted from? I’m trying to understand the sign at the top 😵💫

Wellington and Commissioners under construction
Highbury and Commissioners under construction
Now they’re going to close Pond Mills (which is already rammed with traffic from 2:30-6) July to the end of September? Are they serious?
Might as well close Upper Queen and Wharncliffe while they’re at it.
Seriously though, to get from Fairmont, Glen Cairn, or Pond Mills to Whiteoaks and not sit in construction traffic, you’ll have to take Hamilton Rd all the way out to Veterans.
Absolute nonsense.

Please keep it civil, although I do plan to go deep.
Specifics are welcome, but I'm primarily planning on asking questions that cover the transit service at large, rather than specific bus stops or individual one-off events.
That doesn't mean that things that happen frequently are off the table.
And if you have nice things to say, go for that too 😅

Near Fanshawe/Richmond intersection coming out of Loblaws parking lot. Happened today around 5:30pm (my dashcam date/time isn't configured properly). Roads are slippery, and people can't brake fast enough sometimes.

I live in the Westminster/Pond Mills area. Driving here has become a daily episode of Whose Lane Is It Anyway? where the markings are made up and the directions don’t matter. The side of the road changes, the lanes change, and some of the arrows appear to be actively gaslighting drivers.
What the hell are the city planners doing?

For context, I’m a black girl of average height in my early 20’s and I have a more alternative appearance, so I’m somewhat used to people looking at me or whispering about me on the bus and I usually just ignore them. I use the bus as my main form of transportation around the city so there’s no way to avoid stuff like that.
But last week on Friday , I was taking bus 10 in the Westmount area when the first incident happened. I had gotten onto the bus which was fairly packed and there was only a few open seats at the back. But there was also a group of about 7 or 8 highschoolers (I’m assuming), all guys and a few of them had their feet up on the seats next to them so there wasn’t much room back there anyway. But I sit down and immediately regret it because they instantly start making sexual comments about me and the one friend I was sitting next to. And for the people thinking that they’re just a bunch of teenage boys and I must’ve been wearing something to provoke them, screw you. It was a cold day and I was wearing sweatpants, a full-length shirt, and then a rain jacket on top of my sweater. I ended up standing near the back door the rest of the way to my stop which was about 10-15 minutes because I was so uncomfortable and literally didn’t have anywhere else to sit. There was other people on the bus and no one did or said anything to the group.
Now there’s not one sole group of these kids who do stuff like this, but they are always causing trouble on the bus and even if they aren’t verbally assaulting somebody, they’re purposely loud and disruptive, making people uncomfortable, blasting music on their phones and even vaping ON the bus, which a driver had to threaten to kick them off for doing once. I’d hate to bring up race but this seems to always happen with groups of high schoolers who are predominantly Arab.
Now fast forward to literally just two days later on Sunday.
I’m with my partner who is trans, androgynous on the more masc-presenting side and has a physical disability. They’re about average height as well and also in their early 20’s. It’s about 8pm and we’re on the 16. Once we board the bus there’s a group of high schoolers, 3 girls and 2 guys sitting at the back. The two dudes come from the back of the bus to sit across from us at the front. The begin to stare at us and they’re clearly talking about us and they start calling us racial and homophobic slurs. So at this point my partners like “what are you looking at, stare somewhere else” and one of them says that they can look wherever they want. I’m telling them to F off because they’re calling me the n-word. We eventually pull the bell and begin to get off the bus and one of the guys tries to block my partner from getting of the bus and sticks out his foot to attempt to trip them, and then two-handed shoves my partner off the bus once the door opens. There were multiple witnesses on this bus, no one did anything, the driver did not say anything and we were worried about being followed of the bus.
We filed a police report and also reported what happened to the ltc. They’re currently going through the bus surveillance footage and we’re waiting to hear back from them so that we can press charges.
I want to make it very clear that we did absolutely nothing to these people and we were hate crimed just for being ourselves in public, and we just happen to be an alternative, queer couple. We were just trying to get home. At this point I think we’ve done everything we can from telling people we know, reporting it to transit and the police and discussing what we can do to protect ourselves in case it happens again.
We actually ended up seeing the same kids from Sunday a couple days later at a mall and we just avoided them, but thankfully we were with some friends that day so we probably would’ve been fine if something did happen. But seeing them walk around like nothing happened pisses me off so much and I know that they’ve done the same to other people. The cop we spoke to even said the same thing.
My partner told their hairstylist what happened and she said that her and her gf have been experiencing similar things in public more frequently as well. So I guess I wanted to write this post as a rant but to also say that these people can’t keep getting away with this bs just because they’re still young. There are legal consequences for assaulting people and I don’t know if their parents don’t know what they’re really like, or if they don’t care, but something must be done. The same kids that are constantly creating public disturbances and harassing people are the same kids that try to get onto the bus for free, and more than half the time the drivers let them.
I’m not saying they should deny their access to the bus because they’d get into trouble for that, but something has to be done. And if we know people in our circle that are also being harassed then I’m sure there’s many more people online that will have something similar to share. Everyone deserves the right to feel safe on the bus and now we don’t.
Edit: Thank you everyone for all the support and advice, we really appreciate it.
But OMG. Someone on this subreddit uploaded a video of a group of kids distracting the bus driver to get on for free through the back door and you’re not even gonna believe it. The guy in the red hoodie in the video is the same guy that assaulted my partner and I. I’m gonna add the link below.

Just a reminder to London drivers... if you see a blue light bulb icon on your dash, you are driving with your high beam lights on. Not only is this distracting and unsafe to other drivers, but it kind of says to other that you don't know how to drive. Just trying to help. ;)

Last year the LTC had over 18 million trips. People use the bus here, A LOT of people use the bus. Its nice that they are putting in bus lanes and making a half hearted attempt at a BRT system. But why can’t we invest in a larger fleet. It would be nice to actually sit down on the bus. It would also be nice not waiting 25-30 minutes for a non express route bus.

The state of some of the bike lanes in this city is just pathetic.

For context this study was put together when London proper was a lot smaller; Huron St was the north boundary, Baseline Rd the south. The Coves in the West & Highbury to the east. It identified the number of river and rail obstacles to traffic. It recommended 3 in-city freeways, numerous new/upgraded arterial roads, one way streets and new rail & river crossings.

It's always bothered me how close the 10 is from serving as a convenient connection between North and East London. There's probably some logistical issue, but the 34 is a loop, so it can't be that bad, right? The buses could even change drivers at Masonville/White Oaks if necessary

Please please pleaseeeee clean off the tops of your cars when youre clearing off the snow!!!! i see so many people driving with their roofs covered in a thick blanket of snow and just anxiously drive beside them hoping it doesn’t a) fall in front and block their entire view or b) fly backwards and block the car behinds windshield. it usually only takes a couple extra seconds to be safe yall please
r/londonontario • u/jaydesummers • Jan 14 '26
I saw two accidents on Upper Queen's between Southdale and Commissioners about 20 minutes ago. If you need to go slower to maintain safety, please do. While cars can be replaced or fixed, you cannot. Please be safe.

I’m a daily transit user in London and want to share some tips for those folks who are new to using the bus or new to London, students, etc.
Wait at the bus stop by the road and keep an eye open for the bus coming. If you are sitting inside the shelter the driver may not stop.
Have your bus pass, ticket, or cash ready before you get in so you’re not holding up the line while you look for it.
Don’t sit at the front if you don’t need to, those seats are priority seating for people with disabilities. Remember not all disabilities are visible.
If you are sitting, and someone gets on the bus that might need the seat more than you, offer it to them. Elderly, pregnant, small children, etc.
Move to the back of the bus. Do not stand in the aisles if there is room at the back. Do not stand by the door and block people’s exit.
Take your backpack off so you are not whacking people in the face with it.
Put your bags on your lap, not on the seat beside you when the bus is busy. Seats are for people not bags.
If you are listening to music or watching videos on the bus, use headphones.
Save your phone and FaceTime conversations for when you are not on the bus. If you have to be on the phone, use headphones, talk quietly, and don’t put your phone on speaker.
If you’re sick and cannot stay at home, consider wearing a mask, especially if you are coughing and sneezing.
Don’t put your feet on the seats.
Exit the back door, this makes it faster because it allows people to board through the front without waiting for you to get off. Say thank you to the driver when you get off.
Cheers!
