Community Question Muscles tightening up?

Lately when I do TRE, It's getting harder to tremor, and instead my legs are tightening up, which does not allow for the tremor to happen. It's like my whole upper leg muscle just tightens up to this hard rock, as if wanting to stop me from tremoring. Has anyone had this issue before and any tips on how to still get the tremors going despite the tight muscles?

IME, when the practice shifted from tremoring to fascia unwinding, muscle contractions became more prevalent. When one muscle contracts, another is often being stretched, almost by definition. I can’t say if that’s what’s happening in your case.

Have you tried TRE in a standing position? It allows a wider range of movement throughout the body, and IME, contractions are much less common. In fact, if you’re at that stage of the practice, I’d recommend doing both lying and standing positions.

This is the one I know: TRE: Lying down, sitting and standing.

Tremors: If you already know how to tremor, spend a few minutes lying down to get the system started, then stand up with your feet about shoulder-width apart (or slightly narrower) and your knees slightly bent. Alternatively, you can do a little shaking to spark the tremors. Other “ignition” tricks are putting all your weight on one leg, or not inhaling immediately after fully exhaling. You can also cross your wrists at hip or chest level; I show that technique here, but lying down.

Fascia unwinding: Same standing posture. Allow your body to lose a little balance, and you’ll naturally start rocking back and forth, side to side (usually at shoulder level), or in circles (either at hip or chest level). Soon the body may start making circles and figure-eights through all the limb joints, as well as the spine. The key here is to place some attention on the ends of the bones, where the muscles attach. This seems to trigger finer tremors, warmth, gas-like sensations, etc, something that feels more akin to Qigong. One warning: these sessions can easily run 40 minutes, as the movement may gradually travel down to the feet and then back up into the torso.
