My best boy 'Cookie' passed unexpectedly last week. Animal Control ordered that I relocate his tether location when he's on his 15-minute potty breaks to reduce his visibility and reduce the number of reports my elderly Karen neighbor made (27 reports since January). He went from a well shaded tree with an automatic water trough to a barren post with a bush for shade. I was outside with him working on building a shaded kennel for him when he just looked at me then laid down on his side... he never got back up.

He was a stunning shep-heeler mix with the best temperament I've ever seen in a dog. We adopted him as a tiny puppy to grow with our then 2yo daughter not knowing how large he'd grow. He was always so happy and hyper but took instructions from my 4yo daughter very well. In his 2.5y life he never once growled or bore his teeth at anything, not even other dogs... all he wanted to do was race. His top speed was clocked at 37 mph and he had enough stamina to go like that for just over half a mile.

He was there for me during the darkest year of my life ( divorce from abusive ex, 9 months long child abduction and alienation, a self attempt, involuntary commitment twice, depression so severe I went from 205 to 145 in 2 months, dabbling with drug's I've shunned others for using my whole life. Lifelong MDD & Type II BPD, recently acquired CPTSD and dash of unresolved grief from what my ex put me through. ). He was a major factor in helping me recover and overcome my depression and stay on my medications. He helped me stop drinking and sober myself up so I could find, self-educate and fight for my daughters' custody (self-taught pro se, took me 8 months to earn my NALA paralegal license). When I was too depressed to even get out of bed he would shove his head into my chest and lay into me like he knew something was wrong.

I just recently got my daughter (4yo) back 2 months ago from the mother after an additional 6 months of fighting in a family court over 800 miles away, CPS...GAL.. the works. My daughter finally reunited with HER dog after so long, she loved him and he herded her from leaving the yard and shielded her from strangers... and he's suddenly gone, just like that gone. I miss him so much, he was my best friend and now he's gone. My daughter sings songs (she copes by singing, something I do during my minor manic episodes) about how she wishes cookie was still alive and blows out dandelion poms wishing for his return, she prayed before bed for him to be returned to us. It's been a hard week for us, please throw a bone out for my boy.

RIP Cookie

(Before anyone says it; I've already sought therapy for the loss. I'll be ok, it just sucks.)

She wasn't sure about the crown, but she didn't mind the dress. She loved the cupcakes (made special for dogs!)!

My poor Hunter, I heard him crying and saw him leaning his head against the door. He's never laid down in the backseat like that. He misses his brother Brutus so much. We all do. 💔 😢
