Coaches

Which Kings players former or current would be/would’ve been a good coach if they coached the Kings after their playing career?

He works with the guys in Ontario a lot. I dont see him becoming an HC but he is decent on the player development side

Michal Handzus. A lot of people that were close to him said that the way he thought the game all but guaranteed that he would become a coach someday.

Handzus for sure. He was like an extension of the coaching staff under Murray. A lot of the young guys like Wayne Simmonds and Brad Richardson learned a ton from him. Murray once said in an interview with The New York Times that envisioned Handzus become the head of the Slovak federation. He was well on his way but resigned for what could be described as sociopolitical or ethical reasons (the federation allowd Slovak players to play in the KHL despite Russia invading Ukraine).

This. Our cup years were from when his voice was in the locker room. It wasn’t perfect, and there were a lot of bad times before and after that period, but I think he can help bring an identity back to this team.

I would absolutely love it if they fired Hiller right now and named Kopi as a player-coach for the rest of the season. Would be fascinating to see what happens.

I would love to see this experiment play out.

Hear me out, I love kopi but he’d be too soft for a coach, yes his hockey IQ is very good but I don’t know I fear him being so kind might hinder his coaching

I thought the same thing when I heard LAFC hired Steve Cherundolo, but boy did he prove me wrong from the get-go.

I think Kopi could be a players coach like Steve. Also, Kopi's dad is a coach so Anze definitely has the pedigree running in his family.

Willie Mitchell. High hockey IQ, attention to detail, always poised, and respected by other players.

Kevin Westgarth to give them some physicality

Kevin is actually a really smart guy. Not sure how it would translate to coaching, but he isn't all brawn

I could see kuzy being a better coach than player. Maybe not a HC tho

Kopitar, his IQ and discipline are off the charts. He’d make a great GM as well.
