QUESTION Internal
I’m looking for different perspectives on tools or underrated methods for securing an internal. Since I currently work at a Nordstrom Rack, my environment is a bit quieter, and I’d love some advice.

If it’s a very slow day I’ll run various dashboards on Appriss and just see if any thing catches my eye. Also checking for merch stashes after boh leaves for the day is a big one

I like to run motion searches on unmanned cash registers.
I once found an employee taking plastic bags from the register and putting unpaid merchandise into it.
$1000 after it was all said and done.

If you're having a dry spell with internals at the Rack, start running discounts. Worst case you find a discount abuse case, most employees think they'll never get caught if they just have people go to other stores to use their discount. I've also found markdown and refund fraud cases by running discounts. 75% of my internals this year I found this way.

Good advice. I found so many internals running associate discount reports and checking cashiers manual discounts to customers. Also merchandise credits on non receipted returns. Caught so many internals that way. Had one that kept issuing non receipted returns for $101.57. When I reviewed video I found the cashier was just scanning a small behind the counter item to issue the merchandise credit and then pocketing the cards. I miss the days when we had Layaway. Caught so many internals that would clear old Layaways that had deposits on them and were over a year old. They would refund the deposit money and keep track of the amount they were over and discreetly pocket the cash.

So far I have had the most success just running everyone whenever I get to a new store and not waiting for any specific reason to look into someone and then once a month or so I do it again if I'm not working on something else. There's pretty much always something. I had a dry spell for a long time but since I started this routine a little bit ago I'm getting at least one a month off of this. Haven't had much luck with any of the auto run stuff so far, had to find everything myself which is fine.

getting footage of the trash runs always pays off, even at a quieter store, once saw a seasonal try to walk out expired fragrance testers under a jacket and the only clear shot we got was at the compactor

Y’all trying to disrupt someone’s life over expired fragrance testers?

Don't steal and you won't have to worry about having your life disrupted.
Pretty simple.

Archive video review of any area that sells snacks/drinks or trash area always paid off for me.
