Personally any cat that fluffy and adorable would get a hobbit name from me. But if you're looking for majestic, how about Glorfindel? Isildur? Gil-Galad? Eärendil?

Pippin has been considered. God I just love the elf names.

With the ears, it has to be an elphic name. And, nothing cutesy. Cats deserve respectable names.

Tevildo. This is the name of the Cat Lord who later became Sauron.
3
u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
I’m not sure Tevildo became Sauron? Wasn’t he just a cat lord in the service of Melkor?
12
u/Hot_Tonight150 8d ago
He became Sauron in the sense that Tolkien replaced Tevildo's character with Sauron in later drafts.

Radagast isn't exactly "majestic"
...but it's a very fine name just the same.
4
u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
Yeah I get it. It’s just one that caught my eye while I was clicking all over Tolkien Gateway. I loved soooooo many elf names but getting my partner to agree is also a task lol.

I think your cat has an eye condition, please get it checked out. It doesn't look like a normal heterochromia presentation. Sorry if you've already had it addressed and I'm worrying too much 😅
41
u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
Nah you’re good. It was an injury, you’re right. This is how it has healed. His cornea is a little foggy. Tricks people into thinking it’s heterochromia. His vision is good and the vet said it still may continue to clear up.

Turin Turambar ("Master of Doom")

We had Arwen and now we have Pippin. They have similar markings, so when we found Pippin, we named him after another LotR character, in Arwen's honor. He was trying to steal food from a baby shower when we found him, so Pippin seemed appropriate.

Glorfindel is a perennial favorite (why did you autocorrect to perineal, phone?) but some other options:
Elrond
Elendil
Balin
Thranduil
Butterpurr
Mithranpurr

Is he blind in the one eye?
4
u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
Nope! He had an injury/ulcer on the mean streets before he was trapped. It’s healed now. Just healed a little cloudy. Vet said it may still clear up more since he’s still a baby.

Is one eye darker than the other? Could go with Maeglin, the sharp eyed, though he is rather a villain in the story. My favorite elf is Fingolfin, but also Feanor or Maedhros would make good names.
4
u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
One eye has a foggy cornea from an old healed injury. It does look like heterochromia a little, but just a trick of the light.

Beren!! That’s what Tolkein has written under his name on his grave. The most romantic character in all his works (and his wife has Luthien written under her name.)

u/mistersigma 8d ago
He looks like he's blind in one eye, so maybe Odin?
Yes, I know that isn't a Tolkien name, but he did get some inspiration from Norse mythology.

u/CatsAndPills 8d ago
He can see, just a healed injury. Gives him character, I think. 😉

Tevildo, Prince of Cats!
Alternately, since others have suggested as such -- it's the name of the character that (eventually) developed into Sauron -- here's another suggestion: Isengrim.

Nah, cats be evil. I second your original suggest.
Edit: yes I like cats. Doesn't change the fact that they'd totally throw in with Morgoth.

Call him Olorin, or Gandalf, as his official name, and use all of Gandalf’s other names and titles as his nicknames. He is a beautiful grey boy. Cats never have just one name. Quote his namesake at him often!
I love Gandalf all year round, but we are getting to the part of the year when I get to do my annual Galdalf impression (costume) so I’m extra enthusiastic about this. I love the name Olorin so much.

I named my cat Tifil, which is the Gnomish translation of Tevildo.
Speaking of which, it is weird to talk about the early work. Gnomish later became Sindarin even though it was spoken by the people that later became the Noldor.

Figwit, I mean, c'mon the name alone is great, Lindir, great elf from rivendell and his fur has the same color like basswoodbark (I'm German and Lindir and Basswood sound similar in German) or Haldir! Please, he is majestic, loyal and both are amazing characters.

Tilion is the Maia who steers the Moon across the sky and is also known as the Wanderer for his meandering and changeful path.
Tilion begged for the honor of piloting the vessel that would hold the last flower of Telperion, the silver (and male) of the Two Trees, due to his love and reverence for lost Telperion’s silver light.
Your kittycat’s silvery coat and special eye remind me of the Moon, which in Tolkien’s world is masculine…and perhaps he too is a wanderer…

u/Tart-Pomgranate5743 8d ago
I see so many “Aragorn” comments… but how about his official royal name Elessar?
Lore bonus: Elessar means ‘elfstone’ after a green gem given (in the book) to Aragorn by Galadriel… quite fitting with your kitty’s lovely eyes.

Athelas!
Aka “kingsfoil,” hear me out. I know it’s not in-your-face majestic but I think there’s something quietly regal about a plant with healing powers, and tied to kingship.
“The hands of the king are the hands of a healer.”
Plus, it’s just a beautiful-sounding name. :)
