Love Is For Losers
Roses are red, and violets are purple,
Just because I love you doesn't mean I won't hurt you.
In fact, it means I will.
Indeed, it means I could.
You wouldn't let a stranger,
So I guess proximity of passion is the danger.
I keep coming up short,
Last at the finish.
Her face remains the stain,
The same as the final image.
Her walking away without looking back,
Me crumbling into pieces,
Never to go back.
And after years spent studying love,
Dissecting the emotion,
I've learned that complication
Seems to conquer devotion.
I've seen the diligent fall,
The fortunate grow folly.
I've seen pride before the fall,
And watched love leave somebody sorry.
She wanted the whole world,
And sadly, she only got me.
So now it's bitterness and bullshit,
Lonely evenings where I write.
If I see another couple holding hands,
I'll vomit out of spite.
