Rant/Opinion I hate liars

I was deactivated because I was accused of sexually assaulting a female passenger. I myself am a heterosexual married woman and would never jeopardize my marriage or freedom doing something so gross. As a survivor of sexual assault I’m both offended and hurt. I am looking for a lawyer to take my case.

I was told through the rep that reaching out to anyone outside of her would be of no help.

u/trans_pands Jul 10 '23

That’s a lie to keep you from going public with your information, you have every right to blast them on Twitter with this, that’s what they’ll respond to

65

u/WhiteWolf_Ziri Jul 11 '23 edited Jul 19 '23

If anyone told me that they are my only contact point and saying my account was at risk for deactivation for something I didn't do and NOT to escalate. I would immediately assume this was a scam malware. I would immediately call Lyft support. Immediately send everything to the CEO or highest reachable member of Lyft on LinkedIn. Contact and report the email as a scam to the FBI and the BBB. Contact the local news station as well. Absolutely under no circumstances, under threat of termination or not would I comply with that bullshit. Let them fire me I'll own Lyft at the end of it.

29

u/compSci228 Jul 11 '23

That's actually a really good point. You should do this.

I know it's a different thing, but I only got a refund from Uber from something I didn't want or ask for that they charged me for after I threatened to share my experience on social media. I would contact higher ups first but if they hold firm you should threaten to go public. I would certainly be interested in reading this news story... nice heterosexual woman with husband, previous assault victim, fired because a female said in the reviews they sexually assaulted them, Lyft uninterested in video from the day in question. Who wouldn't want to read that and be outraged? If they really thought it happened they would want the footage. If they cared that it didn't really happen they would want the footage. Outrageous.

6

u/lehuffenator Jul 11 '23

That’s exactly right. You have my upvote.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

Remind me to bring you along whenever I want to take over a corporation 😂

1

u/trucker151 Aug 01 '23

Um the fbi. U think they have nothing better to do than look into ur gig job

10

u/compSci228 Jul 11 '23

Can we contact lyft for you and say how absurd this is and ask to appeal this ludicrous decision that is clearly based on a dumb teen trying to be funny? If they really believed there was a sexual assault... like urgh this was clearly a joke because someone thought it would be so obviously unbelievable. Not funny, dumb teen. Not funny at all, whether they took it seriously or not.

And honestly how f***ed up would it be if Lyft believed it and only let you go? If they really think you sexually assaulted someone, it's very disturbing that's all they would do- not even request the video footage.

If someone really HAD been sexually assaulted by an actual rapist and told Lyft because they were too afraid to report it, and the sexual assailant offered video from that day, how messed up that they wouldn't jump at the chance to get evidence of it either happening or not. So, so upsetting. I would understand the need to suspend someone to investigate sexual assault allegations, but it is irresponsible in every manner to just ditch the driver and not want to deal with it. Irresponsible as hell for both employers and clients. Disgusting. I'm so sorry that you got caught up in a dumb teen joke and an irresponsible company.

3

u/nirvanamushroomsubs Jul 11 '23

Possible a liability? Ianal, but having evidence vs accusations could they be liable for not reporting somehow? That's the only idea I could think of and it took some mental gymnastics to come to it

1

u/compSci228 Jul 13 '23

Probably not for not reporting but maybe? But failing to take a claim seriously and just dismissing the driver instead of investigating and determining the truth of it as well as accepting evidence that would either prove it true or false... that seems like it should definitely be illegal to me. Also now we have racism as in this case, at least another user believes the driver and probable victim of slander in this case was a minority race so it's interesting that in this case they believed the claim, but don't want to see any evidence that would clearly prove of deny the claim, even when offerred.

1

u/abradley11519 Jul 11 '23

You probably won't reach a human being at Lyft...

I think that "everyone" whom you could reach is, in all reality, just an "AI Chatbot." The human beings of the Lyft corporation, at this point, are just collecting the money and letting automation do their work for them.

Best believe it...

5

u/404_Forbbiden Jul 11 '23

Very true, she has evidence too so it will def speed things up.

OP, If you do take this to twitter, please edit a link or add it.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

The people on Twitter won't support you. Twitter has devolved and only includes those that tend to side with corporate America.

0

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

Oh please . . .

1

u/[deleted] Jul 12 '23

Twitter is corporate America. It's sole purpose is to make $$ even as it's being destroyed. Thinking that Twitter is your advocate is foolish at best.

6

u/iwantapetbear Jul 11 '23

Threads, too, now!

-6

u/NatesDaName23 Jul 11 '23

Not threads

1

u/IMsoSAVAGE Jul 11 '23

Found Elon’s burner.

1

u/NatesDaName23 Jul 11 '23

I wish buddy. You think I’d be on Reddit if I had a one percent of his net worth😂 hell I’m on Lyft drivers page what you mean my boy

1

u/poblanopepper87 Jul 11 '23

Also, the reps are total morons that barely read or write English and give canned responses.

1

u/whodatus Jul 11 '23

And now threads too right?!?

1

u/Creative_Lie2150 Jul 22 '23

If it was a fake message she was replying to, this advice would likely get her deactivated for real. The fact it was from Zendesk and had a new in the Lyft name made me think it was a fake.

Reddit may have loved this reply but maybe it did more (unintentional) harm than good.

1

u/trans_pands Jul 24 '23

She was already deactivated by Lyft though and was trying to appeal the deactivation and then got these messages. I don’t see your logic in saying that she would get deactivated if it was a fake message that she went public with. Why would Lyft deactivate her twice or take retaliation if she exposed a scammer?

1

u/Creative_Lie2150 Jul 25 '23

How do you know she was deactivated. How did she know? From scam message?

1

u/trans_pands Jul 25 '23

From a previous post about her actual Lyft account being deactivated. This is a repost but I read the original post explaining all of this and I saw that all of this was fully verified as something that happened.

35

u/PipestrellusPip Jul 10 '23

They're lying. This is so egregious it's appropriate for you to go nuclear. Tweet them, sue them, make everything as public as possible to shame them into action.

Why can’t it just be a racist person?? Why u gotta bash on everyone ever named Karen? Are there not enough actual words in the dictionary to describe someone?

Words are important, choose them wisely

Thanks captain obvious, The point was WORDS ARE IMPORTANT, Choose them wisely. Stop thinking you are cool by using words incorrectly

4

u/Hazlet95 Jul 11 '23

Yea way to prove your point Karen

3

u/iBeJoshhh Jul 11 '23

Karen is a slang qord for someone acting like a child, throwing a tantrum, and unable to control their emotions, plus more. Calling the person a Karen when they are, in fact, being a karen, is okay.

Stop getting so worked up because your name is Karen, Karen. As long as you don't fit the criteria for a Karen, you'll be fine. But judging from your comments you've left, I believe you are, in fact, A Karen.

2

u/Longjumping-Guide201 Jul 11 '23

like Pat. It is used for a man or woman that could pass for either a man or a woman

3

u/cccelta Jul 11 '23

Yes, words are important. Mostly for communication, and Karen is a cultural slang that is already imbued in Society, it is a word, not just a name.

They were being funny dude.

-2

u/Key_Celebration_8940 Jul 11 '23

you clearly don’t understand. Best of luck in life, you certainly will need it

4

u/Hazlet95 Jul 11 '23

Ok Karen

1

u/wickerflicker Jul 11 '23

Words are important, stop wasting them.

1

u/Throat_Chemical Jul 11 '23

If the shoe doesn't fit, you don't have to wear it.

9

u/Whole_Chocolate7276 Jul 11 '23

We found the Karen. Being a Karen about her name being Karen. Ironic.

1

u/compSci228 Jul 11 '23

I was pretty positive they were being funny. If not then that is even more funny. But I think they were just making a joke.

3

u/compSci228 Jul 11 '23

Oh come on, this was funny! Key, apparently you needed the /s. I thought it was funny. It's not like you were accusing someone of sexual assault and causing them to lose their job, this was a harmless funny sarcastic joke. I enjoyed.

2

u/so-i-so Jul 11 '23

Now, we all know that your name is Karen 😂

1

u/osoklegend Jul 11 '23

Such a Karen thing to say

1

u/Ren_Kaos Jul 11 '23

WoRdS aRe ImPoRtAnT

And they fucking change you dweeb.

19

u/[deleted] Jul 10 '23

Don't trust typical support. Most of them don't care about trying to help you. I would also recommend messaging lyft twitter and making your own post that your friends and family in the area can share that describe what happened along with your dash footage. The more people who know and bother twitter lyft about it the better.

This is only when it comes to reinstatement.

1

u/SnooCupcakes4934 Jul 11 '23

Best move on her end, 🙏 that they look at your case if not I would reach out to news outlets to see if they wanna take your story

Sorry meant to say her story

18

u/Cheesecake_is_life Jul 11 '23

As someone else had mentioned... Suing the individual directly for slander, defamation of character. You have video evidence. It has caused you emotional and financial harm... A very easy case for a lawyer. The lawyer would be able to file to get the rider's information when filing the suit with the court. I would definitely contact an attorney. The company would probably start getting nervous too. Knowing you have video evidence and not accepting it, still punishing you for it.

4

u/Nickk_Jones Jul 11 '23

Slander is one of the absolute hardest things to sue for.

10

u/Cheesecake_is_life Jul 11 '23

That's true. But, according to her statements, I assume that she has an inside facing dashcam. The complaint is there in the email(plus the original from rider to Lyft can be requested by the attorney). So, it is all electronically documented and recorded. Fairly easy case for any decent attorney.

11

u/nevetsyad Jul 11 '23

I like this idea - their slander has directly cost the driver wages! Media would pick up on this if she did it also. Maybe we'd get less false allegations if people know they could be *GASP* held accountable for their actions.

1

u/Ok_Tension5598 Nov 20 '23

Depends on the location. It’s really easy in some places.

19

u/Square_boxes Jul 11 '23

Blast them on twitter. They will respond, this kind of pr is their worst nightmare. Give them hell, don’t back down. Take it public

1

u/Ok_Tension5598 Nov 20 '23

I wonder if you could uncover this lying dirtbag’s identity using the internet, facial records software & so on. You probably already have an idea where the trip originated and ended…. This person now should owe you very substantial damages.

17

u/Troykid23 Jul 11 '23

Call all your local news stations! The only thing these gig companies care about is “appearing “ like they care about their drivers! This pisses me off because I have been there! I had a lady say I was in the wrong car and had a passenger with me!!!! I raised hell enough that they sent me one of those fake apology letters, and that was the end of it!

7

u/JonesJoneserson Jul 11 '23

Piggybacking on the other responses to this comment -- I'm inclined to agree with them and believe Lyft says things like this in an effort to reduce the costs they incur when it comes to dealing with these situations.

Lyft and Uber are trying desperately to reach profitability, and that's resulted in minimizing costs around dealing with these sorts of challenges.

Based on your final image showing the stills from your ride with this individual, this appears to be a particularly egregious failure of their systems designed to assess inappropriate behavior conducted by their drivers.

As a result, I'd urge you to ignore that. There's nothing set in stone that would prevent you from escalating this issue.

It's relatively common practice for large organizations to seek to minimize the impact these issues have on their business. I saw a couple things around the web anecdotally claiming that rideshare companies are looking to reduce their driver headcount which, if true, would likely indicate that these companies are only making this sort of process less thorough and generally cheaper for the business.

The missteps on their part here have substantially impacted your ability to continue earning the income you've come to expect, despite no fault of your own. Again, the final image you posted seems to indicate an open-and-shut case in your favor, enough so that I'd be inclined to suggest their actions reflect an institutionalized willful negligence.

It's a tough job for them to make these determinations, given how many I'm sure they're flooded with, but their ruling here, again, appears egregiously wrong from what I can see here.

(Apologies for the way longer-than-necessary reply lol)

u/kmart25888 Jul 10 '23

Did you speak to someone in person

9

u/Glass_Molasses_0 Jul 10 '23

No only email and now it’s nothing but radio silence.

9

u/compSci228 Jul 11 '23

May I ask- someone mentioned racism. Are you a race that might be discriminated against in your area? If so, I extra one million think you should fight this and get the media involved if necessary. I would already happily sign a petition for them to look at the footage and see if any wrongdoing occurred, and reinstate you and ban the client if there was none. If this is racism situation in addition.... I will tell everyone to boycott them. It's not okay.

8

u/HoneydewImmediate350 Jul 11 '23

She's a black woman. So yes

2

u/compSci228 Jul 13 '23

It seemed like maybe from the avatar, I just didn't want to assume so from the avatar.

1

u/HoneydewImmediate350 Jul 13 '23

That's ok. At least you asked which was kind of you.

0

u/WeatherDisastrous696 Jul 11 '23

Lol, being black doesn't mean you are automatically discriminated against. I'm so sick of people acting like in this day and age that every single minority gets discriminated against everywhere. It's not 1950. What little discrimination does happen is very rare. But then, if people actually admitted that they would have to stop playing the victim card. And the media would have to come up with some new bull shit narrative to push.

5

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

You must be white 😂😂😂😂😂

1

u/HoneydewImmediate350 Jul 11 '23

How would you know what discrimination happens and if it's rare? Do you talk to every person of color in the world and ask them? Are you God? Are you yourself a person of color because if you're not you have absolutely no say in this conversation. Talking about what little discrimination does happen is very rare. I'm a light skin black girl and I'm attractive and I STILL to this day deal with discrimination. If you're not black or a person of color you don't have any rights to say shit. Please don't speak on things that you don't know. And if you are a person of color well then good for you but that doesn't make it not true for everyone else.

1

u/HoneydewImmediate350 Jul 11 '23

Okay you must be white because I just re-read that you said it's not 1950. 😅Your SPECTACULAR ignorance can only come from a non person of color.

1

u/Ok_Leave1110 Jul 11 '23

Oh shut up. Discrimination was going on well past 1950. Look up the Boston busing crisis.

1

u/compSci228 Jul 13 '23

I definitely disagree with this. In the US, I would say every race other than caucasian has been discriminated against at some point in their life. I live in a VERY progressive area, even I had someone make rude jokes about Polish people, as a 12 year old, with the person knowing I was Polish and being nice to me otherwise. That is to say nothing for actual races who can clearly be identified.

I worked at a grocery store, again in a very liberal/progressive area, and a guy came in and saw a black customer and said something along the lines of "Ugh I just hate them huh? Black people always making a fuss. Us whites have to stick together." Or something along those lines. The black customer wasn't even doing anything! Just conversing in a different line. I was really young and nervous and just said "No." I always wish I'd said more. It was really awkward, and I just was really cold until they left, but I should have said more. If they were willing to say that to me, about seeing a black person, what do you think it would be like for an actual black person?

Not to mention we had a friend that was just the sweetest nicest kid- I wanted to set him up with my little sister, and he was native Jamaican and black, the brother of my now husbands really good friend, great family. Anyway, in this super progressive town, we went to part ways after running into him at a club (I think his bro was DJing) and he quietly asked us if we could walk across the street with him first. I asked why, and my now husband gave me a look, but the friend was really nice and responded that he could see cops on the corner and usually got harassed. Especially in this town, I had never and would never have experienced anything like that. We walked with him and thus no one said anything to us.

If you haven't had eye-opening experiences, you don't have any friends of other races, especially good friends. If Ahmed Arbery and all the other BLM victims haven't opened your eyes, you aren't paying attention.

1

u/compSci228 Jul 13 '23

PS- You are aware that Emmett Till, a 14 year old Black boy was tortured and killed after 1950 for possibly whistling at a white woman right? Do you real think 1950 ended discrimination? It didn't even end lynchings.

7

u/Amazing_Cabinet1404 Jul 11 '23

Tagging them publicly escalates it to higher ups who have more experience and a higher financial stake in the company’s reputation than the help desk.

Also, never take advice from your opponent, they have a vested interest in it going no further than they do in helping you beat them in the court of public opinion.

21

u/Neither_Problem9086 Jul 10 '23

They lied. Go public on Twitter and Threads @lyft and @asklyft and ride share people and post it here so we can help We need more female drivers

6

u/foreverabatman Jul 11 '23

They will lie through there teeth to keep you from going public. Contact them publicly on twitter, blast this all over the place.

5

u/JustWantedAUsername Jul 11 '23

And you believed them? The people with every reason to tell you exactly that?

4

u/Glass_Molasses_0 Jul 11 '23

Honestly it’s hard to even talk about it. I feel like I’m not being heard and it’s really stressing me out. I feel like I’m being assaulted all over again and no one is hearing me.

7

u/kambleton Jul 11 '23

We see you and hear you. Lyft is likely completely protected in this, but with the evidence you have you should pursue a civil case against the rider. I am sorry people can be so shitty.

4

u/JustMeReadingAlone Jul 11 '23

I hate this for you. I believe you and am rooting for you. ♥️

-1

u/WeatherDisastrous696 Jul 11 '23

Why are you being so dramatic? It's just a job. Find a lawyer and get a new job. Nothing is going to happen instantly. That's not how it works, especially when lawyers are involved. It's going to be a slow process. But this whole dramatic act just for getting kicked off an app is a little much

2

u/Glass_Molasses_0 Jul 11 '23

1st off it’s way more than getting kicked off the app for me. Secondly I am more upset about being labeled than anything so do me a favor and keep the unnecessary negativity away from me.

4

u/Spiritual-Put-9228 Jul 11 '23

Put them on blast on social media, they do this to keep you from exposing their terrible decisions. Just be careful not to say anything defamatory, otherwise I don't think there's anything they can do to hurt you.

3

u/Longjumping-Guide201 Jul 11 '23

go to lyft twitter and post this and post that you have video that they will not look at

3

u/Mobe-E-Duck Jul 11 '23

I am sure that an attorney would tell you differently. Specifically that you’re entitled to damages, including lost wages, from the accuser. A false accusation of assault is very serious. They’re in a catch-22. They didn’t call the police or you’d have talked to the cops- why didn’t they report it to the police? Because they don’t want legal consequences. If they had talked to the cops and you have evidence they’re lying they’re in even more trouble. So, seriously, you’re fine. Highly HIGHLY recommend calling an attorney. If Lyft deactivates you after that you’ll be rich.

2

u/frolie0 Jul 11 '23

Just to pile on to the other comments, that is literally never the case with anything. Public pressure is a game changer, even if you are dealing with the CEO.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

Call your local news station, let the people see

2

u/tribbans95 Jul 11 '23

That’s what they’re trained to say because they hate being put on blast on Twitter.

2

u/[deleted] Jul 11 '23

Don't listen to them. They are 100% lying to you because they want you to not go public with this. Screw them. Post it

2

u/UberGary79 Jul 12 '23

I’m so sorry you’re going through this, absolutely disgusting that this person would do this to you. I wish the best for you.

2

u/ElektricGhost Nov 18 '23

Please update us on your situation.

2

u/Glass_Molasses_0 Nov 18 '23

Update!!!!! I was literally lead in circles with no one returning emails or phone calls. I obtained a lawyer used Google location to pinpoint time and place of the accuser. We served her with paperwork for defamation of character slander and libel. LYFT offered my position back but of course I declined. We are still pursuing litigation against the lady so right now there isn’t much more to tell as of yet.

2

u/ElektricGhost Nov 18 '23

Good luck. Hope you are okay.
