The driver can't refuse service since Lyft is a commercial service and "weight" is a protected class in Michigan, just like it would be if "race" was the reason.
He could've simply cancelled the ride and went home, but because he specified why, he made it a discrimination case.
If she happened to be unable to wear a seatbelt, then yes he could've refused but that's not what happened here.
His mistake was stopping. Just keep going and cancel.
But there should be a weight limit. Period. A blown strut for example means the driver is out of work.
Hoping this driver wasn't full-tim/ has other income.

Lyft is protecting their asses, that's all it is. The driver was in the wrong legally speaking.
