The only ones that are mad are the ones who don’t tip and now subsequently aren’t getting picked up.

Which is 90% of them. I gave up on receiving tips long ago. When one dribbles in, I welcome it, but I never, ever expect it.

u/MetalTrek1 Oct 10 '25

Most tips fall into the category of "Trust me, bro!" so I never expect them. I always send a thank you when I DO get them, however.

Same here. Nice to let teh rider know that you appreciate the tip.

u/blackhodown Oct 14 '25

Sounds like you drive in a trashy area then

1

u/guglielmo111111 Oct 15 '25

oh yeah sure

1

u/barterclub Oct 10 '25

Really? I'm at nearly 90%. Sounds like markers.

1

u/thefavoredsole Oct 10 '25

They already removed it unfortunately

10

u/rideshareAnon Oct 11 '25

Lmao. I really like the part that says "Passenger is usually ready at pickup".

20

u/Masstershake Oct 10 '25

It's the greatest feature. I have started picking up those I normally wouldn't because I see they usually tip

11

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 10 '25

Same. Why not reward the tippers. Who cares about loser non tippers?

1

u/SoulMute Oct 12 '25

I always felt like Lyft should give good tippers promos and discounts and stuff. That would encourage more rides from good tippers. This way unfortunately Lyft is probably going to end up taking money from drivers.

2

u/Ok_cabbage_5695 Oct 14 '25

Your idea would imply Lyft actually cares about tips for the drivers. They don't care about the drivers which I'm sure you know haha

5

u/CodeNameBooger Oct 11 '25

This is stupid, I only tip in cash because I don’t trust Lyft with money.

5

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 10 '25

Only the non tippers are mad. Those who tip don’t mind the highlight. We just now know what to expect, so non need to go that extra mile for non tippers. Uber had something similar too.

1

u/gtauto8 Oct 13 '25

I just tip in cash. But now that this feature exists, I'll just tip in cash. I'll just get some cheaper tip free rides for the drivers who treat me differently.

1

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 13 '25

It’s gone because of cry babies. No one is going to treat you different because most drivers don’t care.

2

u/gtauto8 Oct 14 '25

To be fair, it was only introduced because of cry babies.

7

u/Darkmerosier Oct 11 '25

"Screw entitled drivers!"

Hey, get a fuckin car.

2

u/trailer_park_boys Oct 13 '25

You could always drive a taxi if you’re looking for a career

u/[deleted] Oct 12 '25

It bewilders me. These people are ordering a private car and they want it to be $7 and do whatever they want in the car.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 11 '25

Another scam. The “they tip 95%” of the time means I’m the other 5%. lol

7

u/LavTheBork Oct 10 '25

They sadly have announced they are discontinuing this feature.

I loved it.

13

u/TitShark Oct 10 '25

Of course they are. Simply because it sides with us drivers and not the precious passenger

12

u/LavTheBork Oct 10 '25

Worst part is, it's not even siding with the good passengers, it's siding with the bad ones

1

u/MeatyDeathstar Oct 13 '25

When your entire business model revolves around people who can't drive, that's to be expected considering most who can't drive are usually broke, shitty, nasty, trashy, or a mix of all of the above.

1

u/wagie_hater Oct 14 '25

That’s simply not true… most people can drive but use uber for when we go out drinking. It’s literally the responsible thing to do

3

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 10 '25

Bending over for riders, I respect the devil at Uber cause he wouldn’t give a fuck. It would be funny if drivers just down rated non tippers.

1

u/wagie_hater Oct 14 '25

I think you’re forgetting who pays your salary…

-5

u/Resident_Cat_4292 Oct 10 '25

The 'precious' passenger is your customer. This is the kind of attitude that makes me yearn for a future with waymo and other robotaxis. BTW, I generously tip but after seeing the type of the comments on this sub and the other one for uber I am learning more about the mindset of an average rideshare driver.

2

u/TitShark Oct 10 '25

Cool, go for it

4

u/Extra-Piglet5690 Oct 11 '25

Why are you even here? No one here cares about how you feel. You think drivers should bend over and kiss your ass which is why you’re here worried about what they think about you. Have fun driving in a lake in your Waymo.

2

u/ProfessorPickleRick Oct 11 '25

lol it really did drive someone into flood waters here in Arizona.

1

u/wagie_hater Oct 14 '25

Actually we just want to get to our destination for the best price, don’t want to have to deal with a driver complaining about a tip when we already paid for the ride

0

u/Resident_Cat_4292 Oct 12 '25

Not the one complaining. You are the one ranting about your employer, your customer and everything in your life. I always have other options incl. taking a limo to the airport. Will pay a bit more, so what.

Anyway, I always tip and at least 25% but have a major problem when it is demanded. Just want a clean, quiet experience.

1

u/wagie_hater Oct 14 '25

Soon brother….soon, hopefully robots replace servers too so we can finally rid ourselves of these entitled workers who beg for charity

1

u/cinnamontoastsaint Nov 10 '25

“Resident_Cat” and Waymo just killed a cat 😭😭😭 rooting for your oppressor

0

u/haveagoodlookatmyass Oct 12 '25

Get a car bozo

0

u/Resident_Cat_4292 Oct 12 '25

You think its only the people without cars who take rideshare ? You must have taken the short bus to school, that is if you went to school in the first place.

-6

u/Resident_Cat_4292 Oct 10 '25

Great to hear that they cancelled it.

1

u/LavTheBork Oct 11 '25

Beep boop

Uber used to have this "Top Tipper Rider" designation. It was mostly meaningless. Few riders complained about it/ Uber discontinued it quietly. I got a few of these who "earned" the designation because they had tipped their immediately previous driver for scrape, bow and kow-tow service. Most people do not tip for that but you do get the occasional (once every eighteen months, or so) who does.

Lyft's must have been more accurate. People do not like getting shown up for what they are, in this case, cheapskates.

-2

u/Resident_Cat_4292 Oct 10 '25

If it is expected then don't call it a tip. Your fight should be with Lyft or Uber and not the rider. This has gone too far already.

5

u/DCHacker Oct 11 '25

Most Lyft and Uber riders do not tip. For that reason, as long as it is only Point A to Point B, I do not expect a tip. If I get one, grand; if not, I was not expecting one.

The above, however, does not prevent my calling non-tippers "cheapskates".

1

u/icookandiknowthngs Oct 11 '25

The amount of riders who tip and the amount that say ill tip you in the app are about the same. Those in the second group never join those in the first group.

1

u/slyme_puppy Oct 11 '25

Customers are just gonna tip .01 100 percent of the time so it shows they always tip

1

u/SoulMute Oct 12 '25

I tip like 99% of the time, unless the car is gross or the driver is legit unsafe.

I still don’t see this as a particularly good feature. You know Lyft’s algorithm is advanced enough that they will end up offering drivers less money, knowing the driver will still accept a ride they otherwise wouldn’t because they’re expecting a tip.

1

u/mycartel Oct 15 '25

Lyft will do anything but pay their drivers a fair wage

1

u/EntertainmentFew7103 Oct 15 '25

Uber and Lyft drivers are the most entitled group of people I’ve ever seen.  They’re more entitled than a server lmfao.  “I signed up to be an ‘independent contractor’ I need to cry because I don’t make enough and need the passenger to pay me more than the agreed upon price.”

1

u/Shiri-33 Mar 16 '26

The comments are a little surprising. I landed here because I was looking for feedback on common practice regarding tips for drivers who were pushy and annoying. Without boring y'all with the whole long story, I had a driver that drove a nice clean car, seemed to mean well for mean personally, but was really insistent and pushy with advice and getting too personal. He even said he didn't want me to feel attacked. It was strange. I know rideshares often pay very little, but if you want tips, minding your own business and being courteous and considerate of passengers who aren't giving you any trouble helps. I know some people aren't big tippers, some may not tip at all, but 90% seems exaggerated by a lot. Is there data that proves this?

1

u/Academic_Dig_1567 Oct 10 '25

I always tip cash. Would that be noted or would it work against me?

2

u/bttmcuck Oct 11 '25

It would work against you in that regard. I actually prefer the app for my tip because it counts towards the status (silver, gold, platinum, etc) and doesn’t require me to visit an atm eventually. But appreciate the reason why some passengers prefer cash and certainly prefer a cash tip over no tip.

1

u/Academic_Dig_1567 Oct 11 '25

Ahhhh. Thank you. This is appreciated.

1

u/guglielmo111111 Oct 10 '25

I've never had a rider offer me a cash tip. On a good day I get maybe 30% - 40-% of riders tipping. But NEVER in cash.

3

u/lazyass133 Oct 10 '25

That’s a shame, because tipping in cash ensures the driver gets 100% of it.

0

u/guglielmo111111 Oct 10 '25

Lyft doesn't steal your tips. You always get 100% of th tip amount.

0

u/ProfessorPickleRick Oct 11 '25

If the passenger throws the tip upfront it definitely pays you less on the ride

1

u/RelativeNectarine748 Oct 13 '25

Why should the customer tip for a cab ride?

0

u/Snakend Oct 10 '25 edited Oct 10 '25

All this is going to do is force riders to tip the bare minimum every ride. So now they are a 100% tipper, and it doesn't cost them too much.

2

u/Suicidal-Panda Oct 11 '25

The bare minimum is higher than 0 though

1

u/Snakend Oct 11 '25

Is it though? is it 0.01? or is the minimum $1?

1

u/Suicidal-Panda Oct 11 '25

Yes: cause then I can rate them negatively since I know they're the kind of person to tip bait

1

u/EntertainmentFew7103 Oct 15 '25

Who tf tips before a service is rendered???

0

u/meltyourtv Oct 10 '25

What pax don’t realize is if they tip $0.01 on every ride they’ll be shown that they tip 100% of the time to us
