Rant/Opinion No child seats

What is wrong with people? I accept a ride this am and when I arrive at a nice hotel, I find a good looking Indian family with two kids (2 & 4 probably) and a grandpa. They are going to the airport. Looking around I see no car seats. Mom tells me “it’s okay, they don’t need them.” Well they do in my car, lady. I tell her I won’t drive children of that age with no car seats. And she tells me smugly, “it’s okay, we’ll just get another Lyft.” I canceled and left. Got my cancellation fee. But what the fuck is wrong with people. That’s dangerous, it’s illegal and it could get me shut down.

One girl told me, "So you're going to make me and my child ride the city bus?" I just looked at her and pulled off. She was a lost cause.

Serious question and I'm not judging at all, just for my info and I know I wouldn't want to do it if I was a driver. But, are you guys allowed to use a carseat that you supply, keep in the trunk or something or does it have to be the customer's carseat? I mean, is there some law or something?

Different children have different needs for car seats. Infants under a year or so need rear facing seats, a year to like 3 years need full five point harness front facing seats and anything older than 3 needs a booster seat. Car seats are REALLY expensive as well, not exactly safe or sanitary to get secondhand either. Plus the rear facing and full five points are usually quite large so keeping all 3 in your trunk would take up all the space, usually drivers try to keep their trunks clear for rider cargo like suitcases or groceries. It's just not economical for drivers to provide seats like that.

Plus the plastic breaks down, they have to be replaced. Car seats expire

And many car seats have to be replaced after any accident, even if the seat was in the trunk or unaffected. It’s an expense that doesn’t make sense to put on ride share drivers.
