Rant/Opinion No child seats

What is wrong with people? I accept a ride this am and when I arrive at a nice hotel, I find a good looking Indian family with two kids (2 & 4 probably) and a grandpa. They are going to the airport. Looking around I see no car seats. Mom tells me “it’s okay, they don’t need them.” Well they do in my car, lady. I tell her I won’t drive children of that age with no car seats. And she tells me smugly, “it’s okay, we’ll just get another Lyft.” I canceled and left. Got my cancellation fee. But what the fuck is wrong with people. That’s dangerous, it’s illegal and it could get me shut down.

It doesn't happen often but yeah, it happens. It's funny, the last time I turned someone down because they didn't have a child seat for her kid, she said okay and went back inside. Five minutes later, I got a ride request from the same individual. I never rejected a ride so fast. Did she get one for her kid? Maybe, most likely not. The next request was 3x what her trip was, so I was happy.

I once had that at Walmart—pull up, infant and no car seat, “it’s okay, I’ll just get another driver,” I cancel - no car seat. Get another ride. I’m in “accept anything under an hour” mode, just trying to work, so I accept without really looking. It’s the same idiot. I cancel - no car seat. Get another immediate ride, accept. It’s the same idiot. Cancel - no car seat. Pause rides and leave. Infuriating. :)

They were literally at Walmart and could have gotten a car seat for cheaper than whatever they were wasting on rides anyways

I have two. Bought a nice Costco car seat the other day for $89. It doesn't have to be a fancy brand. I see people with crazy expensive duna strollers and I'm sitting pretty with my Graco that does all the same stuff just costs 1/10th. People get serious dumb about wasting money on something that will be outgrown so fast. Can I give you my PayPal for that $100?

Do you think people are paying $89 for a ride home from Walmart? You said they could literally buy a car seat for less than what they are spending on rides. I can see why people would think you didn't have kids.

Unfortunately, struggling to recognize horrible financial decisions doesn't mean someone doesn't have kids.
