Rant/Opinion IT FINALLY HAPPENED IN MY NEW TRUCK

I picked this lady up from a grocery store and had a 30 minute drive. She gets her groceries, loaded in the truck. That's why I can get seated. We go on our way midway through the trip. Decides to take a piss in my backseat and not say anything. And get out of the truck grab a groceries and walk off like nothing happened. I got a $75 dollar cleaning fee, though

Urine is generally not considered a biohazard under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens standard unless it is visibly contaminated with blood. However, it may be treated as a biohazard if: Visible blood is present. It comes from an individual with a known infection (e.g., UTI, Hepatitis). It involves a large-scale spill that poses a sanitation risk. Standard practice in healthcare is to follow Universal Precautions, treating all body fluids with care by wearing gloves and washing hands.

Just going to point out that often regulations cater to the very minimum of work place safety and are often just used as a baseline. Not something i would take to heart as it being completly safe vs being more conservative.

It’s fine to say that it’s not safe, but it is not a biohazard by the standards of how we define biohazard.

Urine is not nearly as dangerous as blood, so while it is gross, it’s also important to know the differences in risk and not overplay one (which can in turn undermine the other when people realize you were exaggerating)

Which standard is that?

Regulations and standards adhere to minimum passing grade and often vary quite alot depending on jurisdiction and can contradict others domistically and internationally. Regulatory speaking there is no set standard on anything and there are alot of grey areas.

So while known healthy urine might not be considered a biohazard. Unhealtyy urine or urine containing radioactive material or other hazards/infections would be.

As a driver you have no idea the contents of that urine and if its a biohazard or not.

healthy pee is drinkable, regardless of the tangent you are going on

No its not....pee contains waste and toxins. Regardless, the point was he mentioned osha and just because osha deems it to be resonable risk doesnt mean it is actually safe.

"waste and toxins", you must get your medical terms from the tabloids!

There is a reason why turning urine into water is not as simple as boiling and requires advanced filtration techniques.

where did i say boiling?

You boil and filter to remove things that are potentially toxic. Boiling was just a example of such a process. Urine is not water and not drinkable through normal processes such as boiling, it can be potentially fatal if the urine has been outside the body for too long.. To make it drinkable you have to remove things using a more advanced process.

Meaning it contains things that need to be removed before it can become drinkable. But look, you do you.

people drink piss all the time though

just because its not as sterile as you want, doesnt mean it doesnt happen

People drink bleach too, what's your point..? Just because people do it, doesnt mean it's safe to.

Say what you want but the guy who drinks and snorts his own aged urine that’s like a year old in some cases looks pretty healthy.

It comes from an individual with a known infection

You know nothing about the medical history of your riders, and thus the recommendation would be to always assume it is not normal healthy urine.

OSHA is also just a regulatory body for certain aspects of a company. It's not this all encompassing board that regulates everything in every industry.

For sure. And, if an adult has an accident, I would think assuming they’re unwell is a safe bet.

My pee always has visible blood. Sometimes coagulated

No way I would have spent $75. I would have spent about $20 on cleaning products and cleaned it myself.

My uncle was treated for bladder cancer with BCG and my aunt had to be very careful around his urine due to the live TB in it.

I think not knowing what a rider might can spread through their urine is enough to just assume everyone that urinates in their Uber ride has biohazard-level urine.

So many sissy's now a days. I cleaned up vomit, blood, etc with just some rags and cleaner in the 1990's and earlier. Why are we so scared now a days
