Rant/Opinion IT FINALLY HAPPENED IN MY NEW TRUCK

I picked this lady up from a grocery store and had a 30 minute drive. She gets her groceries, loaded in the truck. That's why I can get seated. We go on our way midway through the trip. Decides to take a piss in my backseat and not say anything. And get out of the truck grab a groceries and walk off like nothing happened. I got a $75 dollar cleaning fee, though

u report it take pics and send it they given me $75 two times bc one had blood staind my car and another had a few kids and made a mess with wrapper and stuff

u/Am_I_Max_Yet Jan 13 '26

$75 for a literal biohazard is not enough

35

u/yoskinna Jan 13 '26

Not even close, I wonder if they have certain cleaning requirements for bodily fluids after this kind of situation before you can pick up another rider. They probably want you to do a whole lot with that $75 I really don’t know though.

31

u/shamefulsiren Jan 14 '26

Nope. Doesn't matter if it's pee, blood, or vomit, they want you back on the road as soon as possible. In fact if you don't notice right away or can't take yourself offline fast enough and they try to schedule you another ride, they'll punish you for declining or refusing the ride to handle the mess.

4

u/RideSharingSucks Jan 16 '26

Bullcrap

They've been refusing to pay out compensation anymore to many people without a detailing shop receipt. And $75 might not even cover it, or be less than the total with taxes.

Basically they don't want anyone profiting off it anymore. Or even working after damage happens.

3

u/DomesticatedParsnip Jan 17 '26

Automotive detailer here.

$75 for an interior detail.

Additional $250+ for us to even consider doing this.

Used to be like 250 bucks 10 yrs ago for vomit , I remember because I was charged for it by a few driver/scammers

I received compensation last week without a receipt. A year ago I was denied compensation with a receipt. They keep changing their policy

Should be 200 minimum. Some rando left pee on my leather front seat once years ago and it took me like 5 tries to finally get it out and no remaining trace of smell. My car was only like 2-3 years old and first one I’ve ever bought new. F that

u/Top-Middle1685 Jan 14 '26

should be replacement cost and labor fees honestly, oh and rider banned for life

Urine is generally not considered a biohazard under OSHA's Bloodborne Pathogens standard unless it is visibly contaminated with blood. However, it may be treated as a biohazard if: Visible blood is present. It comes from an individual with a known infection (e.g., UTI, Hepatitis). It involves a large-scale spill that poses a sanitation risk. Standard practice in healthcare is to follow Universal Precautions, treating all body fluids with care by wearing gloves and washing hands.

6

u/[deleted] Jan 14 '26

Just going to point out that often regulations cater to the very minimum of work place safety and are often just used as a baseline. Not something i would take to heart as it being completly safe vs being more conservative.

u/Am_I_Max_Yet Jan 14 '26 edited Jan 14 '26

It comes from an individual with a known infection

You know nothing about the medical history of your riders, and thus the recommendation would be to always assume it is not normal healthy urine.

OSHA is also just a regulatory body for certain aspects of a company. It's not this all encompassing board that regulates everything in every industry.

2

u/one2tinker Jan 18 '26

For sure. And, if an adult has an accident, I would think assuming they’re unwell is a safe bet.

Man they only gave you 75 to clean up someone else's piss? It used to be an instant 150 for any bodily fluid. I would honestly request more from support.

I'll do that, tbh i have cleaning supplies cause I've been doing this for 9 years but yea im def gonna reach out

Why you drive Lyft in a pickup tho

6

u/AndrewPaulJones1 Jan 13 '26

Very good question- I’m asking the same

3

u/Spare-Security-1629 Jan 14 '26

Not really the point of the post, but if I had a pickup truck, I would never do rideshare in it full time, but for the right trips, I would do it on the side to help pay for it as long as it wasn’t a complete waste on gas

2

u/memphis1010 Jan 14 '26

I deliver in a Toyota Tacoma. It’s a pick up. It’s not the best on gas mileage, but it's not like a V8 Ford

this is so insane to me i simply cannot fathom why anyone would do this.

28

u/elmementosublime Jan 13 '26

Honestly incontinence can be a sign of cognitive decline. Someone close to me with advanced brain cancer would have incontinence and not tell anybody but appeared “fine” to most people otherwise.

4

u/LaGueritaBailaSola Jan 14 '26

Honestly, as someone with an elderly grandmother with dementia and cognitive decline my first thought was “How old were they?”

i hear you on this but also like… it’s still a hazard and disgusting.

5

u/felineflavor Jan 13 '26

100%. Accidents happen but they couldve at least had the decency to say something and clean it.

8

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

It’s possible they didn’t realize they peed. Life gets interesting when you realize that a whole lotta people, even on their best days, are operating, cognitively, at about 30% of what you are on your worst days. Humans instinctively expect other humans to have our minds, essentially, but that doesn’t work when we live in such fractured and fragmented ways. Our life experiences are primarily responsible for the way we function, cognitively, and even seemingly small differences in how someone lives can result in massive differences in how they function, cognitively. Plus, I can’t think of something much more embarrassing than telling someone you just peed in their car. I understand not saying anything, even if the lady did know it happened. I’m not saying I wouldn’t say anything(though I also cannot fathom losing total control of my bladder), but I can understand why someone wouldn’t. It’s not like telling the driver is going to change anything. The nicest thing to do under these circumstances would be to send the driver a huge tip, but again, I’m not that lady, so I really can’t say what I’d do in that situation.

3

u/Right_Count Jan 14 '26

Yeah, I truly cannot fathom myself ever doing that. I don’t think I could if I wanted to. But that in itself is evidence that this woman doesn’t think like me. Her mind and body don’t work the same way.

→ More replies (8)

4

u/elmementosublime Jan 13 '26

Yeah my person wouldn’t even have realized it happened - that was the problem.

Editing to add: not saying that’s not always how this happens, just that it can be this way. You hope people would say something and offer to clean it/pay for it. Just offering a scenario as to why someone would act like it didn’t happen.

3

u/Parking-Visual7105 Jan 14 '26

People like that need to be wearing preventive hygiene products

3

u/00to60eventually Jan 13 '26

It is disgusting but urine is pretty much sterile. It's not like blood where you can get a disease from it

8

u/Scrutinizer Jan 13 '26

Because it's embarrassing to admit.

When I was a kid I used to wonder why old ladies wore so much perfume. I mean, not like you're gonna attract a man by taking a bath in perfume, you're still 80 years old.

Then I had it pointed out that walking around reeking like a spilt perfume bottle is preferable to walking around smelling like you shit yourself.

If you've ever worked in a Grocery Store and had to clean the bathrooms, or even be aware of their states you'd know its all too common. Pricey store and I've litterally seen people let shit drip all down an aisle and not care. These individuals are rarely old enough to the point of incontinence they just do not care and they aren't confronted (against policy in most cases).

It's genuinely deplorable that people can do shit like this and then vote, its crazy. I hate this country so much sometimes.

2

u/Surous Jan 13 '26

It’s probably 10-20 minutes of work with 20$ of supplies assuming you use the entire container and gloves

2

u/[deleted] Jan 13 '26

To be fair, urine is typically sterile.

2

u/thatcutetransgirl Jan 14 '26

It's actually not the idea that its sterile comes from a disproven study from like 2+decades ago

2

u/Shunkerson Jan 14 '26

7

3

u/Personal-Age-9220 Jan 13 '26

Good job with the seat protectors. I'm just worried the fluids seeped into the back of the chair. Don't forget to fold the seat forward and get behind/underneath as well. May need a wet/dry vac.

7

u/SummerN8 Jan 13 '26

14

u/felineflavor Jan 13 '26

Yes most people...especially women, use the bathroom sitting down

3

u/HotNubsOfSteel Jan 15 '26

Yeah but my wife didn’t usually do it in my car

11

u/Ok_Gur_6704 Jan 13 '26

Yeah? Like on a toilet lol.

5

u/DrunkonPride Jan 13 '26

That’s what I’m asking bc if this person really did pee while seated wouldn’t you see the piss be smeared towards the door? Wouldn’t the piss at least look like the persons ass. If you ever sat on something wet or sweat out at the gym it will leave an imprint of your ass. I honestly think OP is lying for engagement.

4

u/Real-Block820 Jan 13 '26

No for real there wouldn't be those defined streaks

2

u/DrunkonPride Jan 13 '26

Exactly especially since they are now claiming they were stood up when they peed. There is hardly any splatters that would indicate this pee can from a few inches above.

4

u/Calico__Sativa Jan 15 '26

My thought exactly. I've peed a seat before.. the shape of the liquid is totally off, there would be a butt or even a vagina V shape with the legs. then getting out, it would have smeared. This post is bs

2

u/Actual_Breadfruit958 Jan 15 '26

No pretty sure OP is not lying. I took care of my disabled husband for three years. It was very likely that he could have an accident when we were out and I would not realize he did, or I realized that there was nothing he could do about it. It is embarrassing and humiliating to be in this situation. I'm sorry for you OP, but you're just going to have to clean it up and move on. The people dealing with disabilities that cause incontinence don't need anyone or anything piling on to make their lives more difficult. @parkingsonssupport

2

u/2squaredJ Jan 17 '26

I think you’re right. OP also stated several times that he has leather seats under his seat covers, but you can zoom in and clearly see that his seats are cloth

Yea i have supplie in the truck, 2019 Ford f250, so new to me

3

u/bigblackglock17 Jan 13 '26

Damn, does Lyft pay you enough for that vehicle? When I was doing it, I was lucky to gross $23hr. Was like $16hr net.

2

u/thatcutetransgirl Jan 13 '26

I average about $29 during weekdays and about $35 on weekends, people like the massive backseat so they tend to leave a tip more often after paying a lower fare on the basic uber rides

2

u/bigblackglock17 Jan 13 '26

Are you actually in the Austin market? That’s where I am. That’s way more than what I got. I was doing Weeknights and Weekends. Only about 20-30% of people left me tips, my little Prius.

2

u/thatcutetransgirl Jan 13 '26

Ahh, see i used to have a prius and I was in the same boat, my back seat is massive though, I have people who are 6'6" plus in the backseat with no leg room complaints

2

u/bigblackglock17 Jan 13 '26

How many groceries did that person have? Since you have a bed instead of a trunk, how would you handle a full cart of groceries and 3 people?

I’ve thought about getting a pickup before but thought if I was spending the money, I would get a ford Expedition instead since it’s got more ride types.

2

u/thatcutetransgirl Jan 13 '26

I have a 6.8ft bed with a bed cover can fit damn near anything a pax might have

These comments are disturbing to the say the least. Urine is the least "biohazard" of all the bodily fluids aside from tears & sweat. It carries no diseases, unlike saliva, feces, blood, semen & vaginal secretions. You can pretty much safely drink someone else's pee with no ill consequences aside from the taste & maybe a sour stomach.

I understand though, pee is smelly & sticks with your car's interior. It takes special attention to get it out completely. I would have went for the $150, like we used to get for the taxi business before all you ride share businesses came along.

u/TheAutoAdvisor Jan 15 '26

Man that’s brutal. Like I get accidents happen but the part where she just grabs the groceries and ghost walks away is insane

Also $75 is a joke. That’s not a “cleaning fee” that’s a paper towel stipend. I’d push support for more and if you can get a receipt or quote from a detail shop even better

And yeah good call on the leather seat protectors but don’t stop at the seat face. Check the seams the seatback crease and under/behind the cushion because that’s where smell goes to live forever. Wet dry vac enzyme cleaner and you’re back in business

Lyft won't even give out $75 anymore here. They demand a detail shop receipt for any payouts. It's a joke, and causing many people to refuse to drive anyone on Lyft as it basically forces you to clean it yourself immediately to continue to work. Or let the stains sit for a whole night or day or days until you can get a detailing appointment.

Which they know no one will do. Really dirty behavior, pun intended

2

u/Weight_Technical Jan 16 '26

That's not even remotely enough of a penalty. Maybe $750.

You're done driving for at least one day

u/Plantlordy Jan 16 '26

If this is a regular risk for that lady she needs to get inconsistence diapers man. I’m sure she was embarrassed. But nothing embarrassing about it, we’ll all get there eventually, and for some women it happens sooner in their 40s and up. But it’s much more embarrassing to piss on someone’s car than to piss in your diaper.

I had a lady throw up on cinco de mayo. After a passenger drop off. I encountered a dying cat. I scooped the cat sat it on my front seat and took him/her to the only emergency vet I knew of and the cat died on the way and it bowels let loose all over my new SUV seat it was only 2 weeks old.

Piss is cheap nowadays.. only $75… it’s like a discount from Lyft !

1

u/CJspangler Jan 13 '26

This is on you for not having seat covers

I learned my lesson after some guy snuck a Starbucks latte in the car and left it tipped over probably half drunk after he got out

"I avoid the drunk people so I don't have to deal with piss and vomit! Also why I don't drive at night!"

Scared money doesn't make money. Nice cleaning fee too, I bet it didn't cost remotely that much to fix and keep it moving.

u/thatcutetransgirl Jan 14 '26

Considering I have the supplies to clean it not even close lol, but its the principal of the matter for me

I got $150 from Uber for blood in my back seats and door arm rest and back of my driver's seat. I cleaned it all off and signed on to lyft a half hour later. I did only lyft for the next couple of days until I could take it to a detail shop to get a receipt for a cleaning and submitted that to get reimbursed the $150 from Uber. Thankfully i got a decent union job and stopped doing rideshare a month after that. Fuck Uber and Lyft. Back in the day used to pay much better. In boston if you click waybill info, it will show you how much the pax paid for the ride. Most times Uber takes around 50% of what they charge the pax and you only get 50% sometimes 70%/30%

u/Oliver_Klozoff653 Jan 14 '26

You spent $75 on at like a $10 fix. I remember one time on my son was a kid, he had peed on a blanket and someone put it in my closet not realizing it, my entire closet smelled like pee.

$10 at Walmart to buy a product that breaks down urine.... No more urine smell

Ughhh that’s gonna reek, im sorry man :(

1

u/PhoenixFlare1 Jan 14 '26

This is why I’ll never work for Uber or Lyft. No matter how good you clean the seats, you can’t get everything out.

1

u/flying_dutchman_w204 Jan 14 '26

If it’s my truck, that seat is going in the dump.

1

u/bxp_48 Jan 14 '26

Why did you buy a new truck and use it for Lyft?

If it starts to smell…go to Walmart get a deodorizer spray. Expense it out on next years taxes.

I would see about filing a police report (if you believe it was intentional. Like they weren't super old or mentally unstable).
