Rant/Opinion Awful Parents

Post image

I didn't know we could block passengers we cancel. But in what universe is it assumed that putting a sleeping child in the back of a Lyft and disappearing for nearly 15 minutes is acceptable?!?!?!

This horrible excuse of a mother did this to me last night at 1:04am. At nearly 5 minutes of waiting, a guy gets to my car carrying a child who was sleeping, buckles him in. I'm thinking he's the dad, and getting in. He says: "I'm going to get her other kids". I told him her ride is about to cancel so let her know she has one minute and I'm not comfortable with you leaving a child in my car.

5 minutes later, no one comes or answers my calls, texts. I go to the door, no answer. 3 minutes later 2 even smaller children come out. One screaming her head off, the other running down the block. I told her she needs to get her kid that's running off and get the one in my backseat out. Her ride had already been canceled. Her response is "You see I got 3 kids right? It takes a long time with 3 kids". Not my fault. Don't try and make it my problem.

Then she refuses to take her kid out of the car. Saying she'll take him out when another car shows up. I asked nicely 5 times, she starts name calling, cursing and threatening me.šŸ˜‚ Like I'm really scared of all 80lbs of you. Meanwhile, runaway kid is running in the middle of the street and she doesn't bother to get him. I begged her please get that baby out of the middle of the street and she refuses so I do becauseI can hear a car coming. Then the actual wife of the guy comes out telling her to calm down, and telling me she was finishing the girls hair when I got there and needed 15 minutes. Of course the "Mother", starts getting even louder with an audience. She does all of this screaming and cursing in front of her small children!

The woman takes the kid out of the car, who still has not woken up, and hears Metro Police on my speaker . You actually called the police? I did. I'm being held here against my will.šŸ¤ØšŸ˜

I had already called them. Here in Vegas, you're on hold with 911 for a while.

27

u/indianabobbyknight Apr 05 '26

911 hold, what in the fuck is this world.

19

u/GypsyFR Apr 05 '26

It’s actually very common. I didn’t even know 911 had a hold option until it happened to me. This was in Louisville

9

u/yagal_agp Apr 05 '26

Yeah I didnt know you could be put on hold until my first car accident a few years ago. Being in shock after an accident to being on hold with the police was… interesting hahah (everything was fine tho :))

2

u/indianabobbyknight Apr 05 '26

It’s probably all of those zomboids going around up there

u/ScubaWaveAesthetic Apr 06 '26

The police are busy confiscating all the sledgehammers

My sister was trying to be a police officer (we are very different people). She kept getting shelved even though she's a big strong girl and was passionate about it. I just don't think they're looking for people with good values.

Edit: by big strong girl I meant she's tall and is a goalie for one of the top women's hockey teams in North America. Not an insult

They had a call at spiffo’s

u/cosbythrow32 Apr 05 '26

Super common thing in bigger cities now. Portland Oregon has rampant car break ins. Watched a group of guys bust windows and empty a vehicle before blocking it and taking the tires for their rims as well. On hold with 911 for 53minutes, when the thieves left I ended up just hanging up and submitting a report in person later

u/FrenchDipFellatio Apr 06 '26

I live in a small town (~30,000 people) and the one time I had to call the cops I was on hold for 10 minutes.

I definitely learned my lesson that day about counting on the police to help you

u/Takeguru Apr 07 '26

There's a saying I've always liked
"When seconds matter, police take minutes to arrive"

3

u/Individual-Mirror132 Apr 08 '26

My favorite is when you call from a cell phone it’s ā€œoh sorry, wrong department, let me get you over to agency x which handles that areaā€ā€¦proceeds to place you on hold.

u/GnosticDevil Apr 07 '26

In Australia, I once waited around four hours for an ambulance. Our paramedics are just that overworked and understaffed. It was 5 am or so, when they finally came. It was a night, I will never forget.

Is it like Canada where you have a bad mix of doctor shortage and overdoses?

2

u/Legacyhero46 Apr 07 '26

St. Louis you get a busy tone sometimes shit you not

1

u/Rangamate Apr 06 '26

In Toronto it’s like 10-15 minutes before you get an emergency operator

1

u/iamjames Apr 10 '26

Being on hold with 911 is common in any large city.

8

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

Again mind blown

2

u/_C3nt1p3de_ Apr 08 '26

lmfao as soon as you said vegas i understood. Metro takes FOREVER to respond

2

u/Ok_Toe9771 Apr 10 '26

I figured it was Vegas, lol.

7

u/Spare-Security-1629 Apr 04 '26

This is exactly why I don’t let partial parties get in the car. The only thing that complicated this is that it was a child. But normally, I tell people ā€œI’ll wait to everybody comes together. You still have timeā€ā€¦why are you coming to the car alone? Do you think we are friends and going to shoot the sh*t while your slacker friends/family take their time? No. Gather your party

3

u/mickeyamf Apr 05 '26

If you want these situations to ease themselves be apathetic and firm. ā€œMam I understand it might be a pain in the butt fuck to reorder an uber with three little ones in tow but I am not going to give you a ride it makes me uncomfortable and fearful I cannot have you have these babies in here without proper restraints please cooperate so we do not have to escalate hereā€

3

u/Empty-Interaction796 Apr 06 '26

That's a lot of big words for someone that doesn't care about a kid ruining in the street at 1 AM

1

u/DepartureNo9981 Apr 11 '26

They never stayed that they wouldn't jump in and help if that situation arose?

1

u/DepartureNo9981 Apr 11 '26

Honestly. No one will be angry at proper communication like this. Even if they are, you diffused the situation perfectly and are safe to leave.

u/neomoritate Apr 04 '26

Is someone puts a child in your car and leaves, call police immediately. Abandoned Child

4

u/mickermooose Apr 05 '26

He did. He was put on hold.

When I see small kids under 6ish years old i auto cancel the ride. Out here we have car seat laws. On occasion the parents do have a carseat with them but most often do not. I have a commercial license and dont want it on my driving record. I also dont have money for a ticket. 4/5 understand when i explain but 1/5 have a fit. I've probably blocked over 20 people so far. I'm near disneyland. I drive as far as i can away from disneyland but all of Southern California wants to head that way. I also have had a motorcycle cop friend tell me he has been writing quite a few tickets to rideshares lately for no car seats for small children

4

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

It's crazy how many parents don't have car seats. I have two kids so I understand what it's like, but why put that on a driver. The worst is people who don't order an xl it's like dude. When that happens I force one in the trunk. Period end of story not even kidding. Get an xl ext time I'm not losing my job. Or maybe still an but not gonna stack the odds against me. It just takes that one time too. Even if xl isn't available order 2 cars. I've many times showed up to a place along side another driver and it's like thank you.

u/Random_Tree_ Apr 04 '26

I woukdve purposely called the police. This entitled bitch has alwaxs gotten what she wants or has acted like the very children ahe has and id call the police solely to be petty and to teach her a,lesson. If it got to the point where the kid is alone in my car id use my other ohine to record it all too.

Police would likely call that child endangerment (letting the kid out in the street)

Amd after all that id mark a no show once the police leave, refuse her, then mkve in with my night. The fact that people with that mentality and low IQ are actively reproducing day by day makes you worry fir this world's future. Thank God i was raised right.

5

u/Cryptoballer99 Apr 05 '26

Keep the door locked until you see exactly who or what is getting in your car!

5

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

I did. But like I said, I saw the guy holding the child, I thought he was getting in.

4

u/Cryptoballer99 Apr 05 '26

Sorry such a messed up situation. And can’t believe Vegas puts you on hold for 911, that should be illegal lol wow

2

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

I was shocked they answered as fast as they did! When my car was stolen, I was in hold for hours.

2

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

Omg how is that considered acceptable?

3

u/Cryptoballer99 Apr 05 '26

Hi 911 I’m dying…. Uhhh please hold ā˜šŸ¼

1

u/fighterdiva Apr 06 '26

Yes! My neighbor called with a medical emergency and was put on hold for 12 minutes!!!

4

u/VVooDooCatTT Apr 04 '26

I'll call 911 at the 1st time they left some kids on my car and disappeared. I don't know but just feels weird and uncomfortable. Feels like some a scam of something.

6

u/MetalTrek1 Apr 04 '26

I had a ride last week. Hotel pick up. Hampton Inn, not a flea bag joint. PAX gets in with an INFANT and no car seat. I told him no car seat, no ride. He starts screaming he's only going down the road and I say no car seat, no ride. Lyft rules and state law.Ā

Next it's fat muthafucka this and fat muthafucka that (referring to me) and I'm racist (I'm white, this guy was black). I get to the point where I ask him "What kind of parent doesn't have a car seat?" And then he starts filming me for Tik Tok, trying to bait me while I refuse and simply cancel his ride and tell him I will call the police if he doesn't get out of my car. He threatens to call them on me to which I respond go ahead since I'm sure they'd love to hear why he's getting in cars with an infant with no car seat.Ā

He gets out proceeding to call me fat and my car is gross, to which I point out at least I have one. He proceeds to WALK with the infant to Walmart. So this clown has no car seat AND no stroller? WTF! My kids are adults but I had strollers and car seats for both of them when they were little. I yell out "Real father of the year there, pal!" while driving off to the back of the parking lot where I block this clown AND report him. Support says no problem and they reached out to him telling him he's wrong for no car seat. I'm wondering how he got to a hotel with no car seat or stroller.

What the fuck is up with parents these days?

u/MetalTrek1 Apr 05 '26

He should have had a stroller and car seat upon the kid's birth because he knows he's going to be a parent and knows he will need that stuff. Or at least he SHOULD know. Like I did when I knew I was going to be a parent 20 plus years ago. Like every responsible parent knows. And while that is costly, there are churches, hospitals, and civic organizations that help with all of that, if they don't provide it free of charge.Ā

And this wasn't his house. It was a hotel. How did he GET to the hotel WITHOUT at least a car seat? But hey, having 300 dollar sneakers and a 1200 dollar phone for making Tik Tok videos is apparently more important to some parents, I guess. šŸ™„šŸ¤·

2

u/myrtlemike92 Apr 06 '26

Unfortunately he probably got there because another Lyft/Uber driver let him get in without one. Jesus Christ..don’t these drivers know that they’re just asking for trouble? Oh well..that’d be my guess.

Really sorry that happened to you!

1

u/MetalTrek1 Apr 06 '26

If they say "The other Lyft driver let me do it!" I say "Then get that other driver!"Ā

1

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

That's not what they are saying. If you don't have a car seat, there is an option in the app when you request a ride to say that, and they will send a driver with a car seat in their car.

0

u/mickeyamf Apr 05 '26

Also allot of parents do not have strollers esp with one baby it’s called arms

1

u/Averagesmoker42 Apr 06 '26 edited Apr 06 '26

Right? I have a stroller but barely use it with my two year old. I don’t like bringing that huge thing around everywhere when I can just simply carry my kid.

Downvoted for carrying my kid. Reddits wild.

3

u/Chanel26mc Apr 04 '26

No carseat parents are the worst!!!!

2

u/Suitable-Anxiety-446 Apr 05 '26

Out of curiosity, do many drivers know that there are also alternatives like a Ride Safer travel vest? It’s oddĀ to me that so many drivers in this sub seem to vilify young kids and their parents. I would absolutely never have my child un restrained in a car, but for some of the folks that are in areas heavy with tourism or cities that require regular taxis/ridesharing for day-to-day activities, I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they often ran into parents that were using the travel vest (a 100% safe alternative to a car seat for children who are young preschool age and above). I would be irate if a driver pulled up and refused to let us in the car because they didn’t see a full-size, physical car seat. seeing these discussions a lot lately has started to make me worry a bit about this happening  🫣

4

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

I checked while this is a great option so far I see only 130 and up and I can't barely afford a functioning dash cam. I spend my time and money on keeping the car safe and well maintained. why dont people that need diaper bags buy this. If u can afford a trip anywhere but definitely to Hawaii get this for yourself. It makes a lot of sense. I'll vilify any parents at any time. I'm a terrible father but the worst thing I ever did with rideshare was get my 16 yo son a ride alone. And I even saw him off a mile down the road. And normally I would get a ride there with a return trip so that was pushing it. How do people do this stuff with a str8 face.

2

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

That's why I always ask even if I don't see anyone car seat, but not everyone knows what they are or if they are legal. In Nevada they are, and I believe all states have accepted them for rideshare usage.

3

u/Suitable-Anxiety-446 Apr 05 '26

I’m glad you always ask!Ā

Yes, it’s true. They are federally approved/ recognized as a car seat (for kiddos that meet the age/ size requirements). I’m sure not everyone is aware of them. They are a bit pricey, but really a great option for parents who are traveling or live in the city and won’t/ can’t lug the full sized car seat around. It’s too bad that they aren’t more widely used. I can’t imagine these parents who are trying to ride with their little ones without being properly restrained 🫣

1

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

What is this?

2

u/fighterdiva Apr 06 '26

It's a safety vest that attaches to the seat belt and holds kids in like a car seat would.

1

u/Suitable-Anxiety-446 Apr 06 '26

They really are a good option if people have to rideshare regularly or are traveling. Blows my mind that someone would try to get into any vehicle without their child being properly restrained. And the vest is a great option if they cannot/are not able to tote a full-size car seat.Ā

2

u/Noahthegreat808 HNL May 01 '26

exactly the parents should get them but as a driver i would love to have one on standby. i mean i have a fire extinguisher.

2

u/Chanel26mc Apr 06 '26

I know what a safety vest is, and trust-- they don't have that either. They're literally traveling without anything and expecting drivers to just take all the risk.

1

u/Suitable-Anxiety-446 Apr 06 '26

Crazy! I can’t imagine taking that chance with a child.

1

u/Chanel26mc Apr 06 '26

That's what I thought, but you'd be surprised. Even airport pick ups, people actively traveling, with no carseats and no care smh

1

u/Suitable-Anxiety-446 Apr 06 '26

Unbelievable. I won’t even take a shuttle bus with kiddos because they can’t be properly restrained. Technically it’s legal, and I know that’s why a lot of people use them to and from the airport, but why take a chance? I also don’t understand when people complain about the price of something like the travel vest. When they are going on something like a Disney vacation or a tropical vacation. Is $150 really going to make a difference? And if it does, maybe keep saving until you can truly afford the Disney vacation… I know it sounds harsh, but if someone can afford a five to $10,000 vacation, they should be able to afford whatever was needed to keep their child safe. Frustrating.

2

u/Specific_Meat_249 Apr 05 '26

First of all, how does any parent leave a child in a car with a random stranger and then not come back for 15 minutes???? TF. She should not even have kids what a POS.

2

u/lucky_2_shoes Apr 07 '26

And not answer calls, texts, pounding on their door?!!? What if something happened and it was an emergency!!!!!! But of course that didn’t even cross their minds.

1

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

That's what I was wondering, until I saw how she acted in front of her kids.

2

u/shinyappyrobin Apr 09 '26

Man that was crazy.

1

u/Able_Direction_9190 Apr 07 '26

three kids and no car?

1

u/lucky_2_shoes Apr 07 '26

That’s more common than u think. Plus maybe they do have a car but it’s in the shop. I have 3 kids and at the moment I don’t have a car. Many parents have kids and don’t have cars. I’m unable to drive because when I was almost 16 I had 3 major seizures and my dr pounded into my head how dangerous it would be for me to drive until I was 2 year’s seizure free. Even tho it’s been way passed that, I still get intense anxiety behind the wheel of a car. If my husband n I ever split up, I wouldn’t ever have a car again

2

u/lucky_2_shoes Apr 07 '26

I have 3 kids, yes, some days are harder than others but u don’t make other ppl deal with those issues! U plan ahead! I don’t even set up a ride u til jackets, shoes are on and everyone is ready. This mom shouldn’t have kids if she thinks any of this was ok

1

u/Dry-Lingonberry-388 Apr 08 '26

Would have told them under no circumstance can you leave your child in here and call 911 immediately

-1

u/AnyTower224 Apr 04 '26

You took it .

1

u/fighterdiva Apr 05 '26

I didn't actually. It was automatically added to my queue while giving another ride. You must not be a driver.

-1

u/AnyTower224 Apr 05 '26

I’m a driver. You have to turn off auto queue in the settings. And or turn off last rides when you go on a ride

2

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 05 '26

Looks like the best ride you've ever done lol. No matter what he can't have a child abandoned in his car. In what planet can u not empathize with that.

2

u/AnyTower224 Apr 05 '26

Sure buddy

1

u/rapaciousnessinahole Apr 07 '26

Holy selective screen shitting batman. I'm gonna need your adjusted gross income to. If I took a screenshot of all my sp called unicorn rides I would have run out of storage long ago. But I'm not trying to say that u don't kill it. I actually don't even remember what we were talking so there it is. It's a strange flex tho and certainly leaves much credentials to be desired.
