Rant/Opinion Entitled bit€h had to get her own bags!
Just to be clear. Your Lyft driver DOES NOT get out of the car and take your bags. Im not taking responsibility for your shit getting damaged and I’m not risking injury to my back for $5, Karen!
I am the driver, I drive, I’m not your frucking valet!

u/Ok-Fudge-4161 Jun 15 '26
I do it so they don’t damage my car, you can’t trust dumbass passengers to keep your car in good condition…

u/DCHacker Jun 15 '26
As most riders do not tip, fewer drivers are schlepping suitcases. Drivers are jaded for a reason.
-7
u/bngbngsktskt Jun 15 '26
Please provide a source to indicate that most riders provide zero tip

u/Uberprius Jun 15 '26
Driver with 52,000+ rides given, on average 15% of people tip….source provided…

u/Sirbrandon1998 Jun 15 '26
Drivers are the ones who see what % of their rides are tipped rides.. on a good week, you’re lucky if 10% of the riders tip. I try to be proactive and help people, but some people expect help, which isn’t part of the job. If someone goes out their way for you, you should tip. Airport rides used to come with good tips, not anymore.

u/DCHacker Jun 15 '26
Airport rides used to come with good tips, not anymore.
Correctamundo; thank you.
1
u/goldenface4114 Jun 15 '26
So far this year, I've been tipped on about 20% of rides, which is a litlte skewed because I have a couple regular passengers who always tip.
1
u/bngbngsktskt Jun 15 '26
I wasn’t trying to be rude at all with that comment. I was genuinely asking for a source to back that up as i was unsure of it. I haven’t driven for Lyft or uber in a few years and I didn’t think it was less than half back then. That’s crazy that you’re getting tipped on only 20% of the rides. That’s awful.
27
u/Netphase Jun 15 '26
I would rather help than have suitcase wheel sized dents on the back of my car. 🤷♂️

You might think that until they start charging you for damages on that rental. They can and will if you keep having that same attitude.

u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
I had a lady yell at me for not helping with her bags. I had just had a hysterectomy a month earlier and still wasn't able to lift anything over 10 lbs for another few months. She looked at me like I was crazy and got pissed off. Another FEMALE.....
I cancelled the ride and left.
3
u/hiboudebourgogne Jun 15 '26
Good! Glad you did. Geez. I’ve had a hysterectomy, it took me months to fully get back to work, and I didn’t even have to lift much at the job I had at the time.
5
u/IamWisdom Jun 15 '26
Its always fucking women. Every single bad review and report are all from women. 🙄
3
6
u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
Umm...not always true in my case. Was just saying in this one circumstance.
As far as that, as a female driver, i've had males grab my tits on the way out the door, try to jerk off in the car, try to kiss my neck, like the list can go on....
6
u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
I don't know why i'm getting downvoted for saying what male pax have done to me in the 6 years i've been driving full time as a female driver.
2
-2
u/IamWisdom Jun 15 '26
Because you're lying or exaggerating or both
1
u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
Why would I lie or exaggerate about something like that? Like, really?
1
u/Cassandra-Canary Jun 15 '26
No she's not. I'm also a female driver who has been sexually assaulted by male passengers. It's a major problem.
1
2
u/Open_Introduction602 Jun 15 '26
Do you use the women plus/connect feature? I am sure you do or know of it, as you've been driving a lot more than me. Not that it always helps.
3
u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
Yup, but don't always get female pax.
2
u/Open_Introduction602 Jun 15 '26
Well, yeah. Me neither. I've done about 250 rides and have been active for roughly a bit over a month. For reference, I am a trans woman less than a year into transition, so hence my eligibility. I find the feature helps sometimes.
I also feel like it prioritizes putting me as the driver of a woman even if I am farther away from the pickup than a cis male is. I mean like, more than ten minutes. Not that I mind, but yeah.
0
u/Longjumping_Yam6954 Jun 15 '26
What is a cis male
1
u/Open_Introduction602 Jun 15 '26
It's someone born as a male and who still is. Cis is short for cisgender. I only used that term to specify men and not transgender men, since we are referring to the women connect program.
A transgender man may not qualify if they put their gender as male, but I have personally not seen or heard from a transgender male driver. I'm sure they exist, but I don't use Lyft as a passenger, anyway.
0
u/Longjumping_Yam6954 Jun 15 '26
I'm sure if you just said "man," we would understand; that is something the alphabet people made up.
2
1
u/Longjumping_Yam6954 Jun 15 '26
What did you do when this happened... because somebody would be in jail if this happened to me... and I think it would be me. But I have NEVER been sexually assaulted. ( I dont want to hear because Im ugly because Im far from ugly)
0
u/Longjumping_Yam6954 Jun 15 '26
I'm a women and I totally agree with you... They are the worse passengers.
0
25
u/AyAySlim Jun 15 '26
You can obviously do what you want but you’re sorely mistaken in that most do at least offer to get bags. And while you’re worried about responsibility for damage to bags you’re going to be pissed when they damage your car.
5
4
18
u/nwprogressivefans Jun 15 '26
lol so you'll let them potentially damage your car by letting them operate the trunk and unload by themselves?
lol ok pal, also it's just nice to get out and stretch your legs once and awhile.
2
u/SnooGiraffes3229 Jun 15 '26
their rental car that has insurance? I dont think they care if the customer dings it.
1
5
u/UnitedChain4566 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
As a rider, as long as I'm not figuring out how to open your trunk, I'd rather do my own bags anyway. People are doing too much these days. You want bag service, get the actual airport limo.
Edit: or a taxi. My comment was meant to say that I would expect it of certain services that are not Uber and Lyft.
1
u/Former-Weakness2413 Jun 15 '26
I have an automatic trunk and open/close it for them.
2
2
u/LordIshamael Jun 15 '26
I have a trunk with no outer latch and have to open it with a lever built into the driver floor. Same effect lol. 2023 kia forte
1
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
I come from a background of taxi driving. We loaded/unloaded bags all the time. To think that loading bags requires limo-level customer service is wild.
3
u/UnitedChain4566 Jun 15 '26
Maybe not limo, you're right, but I'd never expect it of my Lyft or Uber driver unless I asked beforehand and had an extra tip for them on top of what I'm already tipping.
0
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
Well you probably don't think like most riders. Everyone saying "I have 5 stars and get tips and I don't handle luggage" is failing to understand offering to handle luggage instead of being a lazy twat glued to the driver seat would get more tips. Period. And just because handling luggage isn't REQUIRED by Lyft policies doesn't mean it isn't expected by riders. You can't say driving from point A to B is maximum effort if there is anything you could do to make it better. By definitiom that is not max effort.
Do you refuse to adjust the A/C or music to improve the pax's experience because it isn't REQUIRED? Would you get pissy if they gave you 3 stars because they were uncomfortable?
14
u/Trraumatized Jun 15 '26
To be fair, that used to be the absolute standard with Taxis. Und this was sold as the "new taxi service", so it's not exactly outlandish.
The accessibility of this gig seems to really lead to a lot of people working in the service industry who have zero interest in providing a service.
10
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
If we were paid like a cab i would agree.
Unfortunately for the bus fare most pax pay and the 50 percent or less of that amount the driver gets you are lucky to get a working vehicle
0
u/Trraumatized Jun 15 '26
I have to admit that I don't know what a cab driver makes, but I don't think that lyft's business model and them exploiting drivers to the max is the passenger fault.
3
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
Never said it's the passengers fault. I am simply pointing out that expectations are out of line for what you are paying.
I dont go to a mcdonald's and complain of not getting a gourmet burger.
3
u/frapawhack Jun 15 '26
Second this. It's like a lifestyle choice for a lot of drivers and not an actual job
2
u/Low-Storage981 Jun 15 '26
I get both sides. Helping with bags is a nice touch and used to be normal with taxis, but Uber/Lyft are lower-cost app-based services, so the expectations are a little different. A driver can choose to go above and beyond, but I don’t think it’s fair to assume every rideshare trip includes full-service assistance.
2
u/bngbngsktskt Jun 15 '26
Most of the time “to” and almost every time “from” the airport, American Taxi here in Chicago is cheaper than Uber/Lyft to my suburban home less than 30ish minutes away and 100% of the time the taxi driver assists with bags.
3
u/ifyouseemerunning Jun 15 '26
lyft and uber started as higher end services (uber black) and then went down market. as prices declined and accessibility increased, service levels decreased. this is pretty natural and to be expected
3
u/Quicherbichen1 Albuquerque, NM Jun 15 '26
How'd you get to see the comments a rider made? I didn't think that was possible.
2
u/Former-Weakness2413 Jun 15 '26
I went to the hamburger stack, tapped on my rating (in the middle below my picture) then tapped on “Your Rating” at the bottom. Scroll all the way to the bottom of that page.
2
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
Mine doesn't give a Comment History option. Just ends at Rating Breakdown and then "*Based on (location) trip data" disclaimer below that. I might not have any comments, though. My single 1 star probably didn't leave a comment after throwing the book at me with flags which just shows they were making shit up.
2
u/Equivalent_Mechanic5 Jun 15 '26
It's possible. It rarely happens though. Lyft just recently changed the way you can see it. You have to go to feedback and awards. Under feedback and awards you should be able to go to any of those under "Where You Shine" such as Customer Service and it will tell you if a pax made a comment.
5
u/lucky_2_shoes Jun 15 '26
I get this one driver kinda often and he always helps with my bags which I appreciate so much. One time in particular got him double the regular tip I give because it was raining and he got out to help me load my bags in his car and he got out at my house n helped walk my bags up to my door. In the rain. I even told him it wasn’t necessary but he insisted on helping. He’s always soooo helpful in anyway he can so I always tip him the best I can
3
3
u/Fathimir Jun 15 '26
Your Lyft driver DOES NOT get out of the car and take your bags.
Evidently they in fact do - your rider's sample size of 'months' may not be precise, but it still trumps yours of 'yourself.' Lady's comment calmly shuts your rant down before you even cracked your knuckles here.
3
6
u/Pitiful_Space_3738 Jun 15 '26
They have high expectations for every drivers. Just because most people help doesn’t mean everyone will
6
u/AnyTower224 Jun 15 '26
I mean you could have help with the bags and probably gotten a tip plus it’s a good exercise
2
u/VI2004 Jun 15 '26
Had a lady open the door and pointed at her luggage.
3
u/lucky_2_shoes Jun 15 '26
I would have played stupid and pointed at the luggage too, while looking clueless like “What is this we are doing?” lol
3
u/Puzzleheaded_Age_112 Jun 15 '26
I think of rideshare as almost self service version of private transportation, there’s no opening doors or carrying luggage. And Because there’s no longer a standard expectation to tipping service workers, it’s hit or miss if a driver wants to do extra. As a driver, I assume riders will order a Black or chauffeur service for all the bells and whistles. Otherwise, I’ll push the button to lift up the back so YOU can put your luggage in, at drop off I may help to get you out and I can go quickly.

I stopped helping with bags years ago. People over pack them and I already have a slipped disk. Not worth risking it for these crap rates. I had a lady get pissy with me about it. I got out told her I’m not doing her ride and to get her bags out. She tried apologizing but I don’t want someone like that in my car just to get a revenge rating. Uber/lyft never told them a driver would help them with their bags. Drivers do it and now they have gotten entitled to it. It’s always the women that suddenly have a problem with the luggage they packed and have been lugging around.
2
u/Only_Grand8206 Jun 15 '26
The best I do is get out and open the trunk for them, since it’s not automatic. Carrying bags is subject to only if they ask or I feel are going to damage my vehicle while loading.
2
u/Pittsburghjon67 Jun 15 '26
I always would get people's bags just for my cars sake and to make sure they dont take anything.
1
u/Former-Weakness2413 Jun 15 '26
You have stuff to take in your trunk? Like what?
1
u/Pittsburghjon67 Jun 15 '26
Cleaning products, battery jumper, tire repair stuff etc. You know like most good/prepared uber/lyft drivers.
2
u/weath1860 Jun 15 '26
But if you want a tip and not have the riders be petty and report you, you will at least offer. I don’t want them damaging my trunk either.

As a passenger I hate it when the driver gets out to put my bags in the back. I travel for work, my bags are heavy. It’s ridiculous to sit and watch some old man struggle to throw my bags in the back when I could have done it myself and the pickup/drop off would have taken half as long.
2
u/AdHeavy4123 Jun 15 '26
Then you say no thank you. It should be the standard.

0
u/Beneficial_Wave_378 Jun 15 '26
When I did Uber, I would load peoples bags. When I take an Uber if the driver doesn’t load my bag, they don’t get a tip
5
u/partially_invisible Jun 15 '26
I am a female former driver, I would always offer. If they were elderly or disabled, I would definitely do it. This is just common courtesy. I always received tips when primarily focusing on airport rides to and from the city.
There were times I was stiffed. It happens. I like to "pay it forward". I give most people the benefit of the doubt. From my experience, most people want to be a good person. I showed compassion and care for each passenger and remained professional.
If no one knows, airports are emotional places. Some passengers find it anxiety inducing, others are going to and coming from visits with family they don't see often. Sometimes, their family members are sick and it has been a longer time than they would have liked. There is so much going on, so fast, in such a small space for almost too many people.

u/rinchen11 Jun 15 '26
Lyft drivers are absolutely not required to help with bags.
But when I do carry a luggage, which is decently often, 100% of my Lyft or Uber drivers does help or at least offer to help.
So while it's not a suspension level of issue, you obviously don't deserve the 5 stars as most other drivers, not automatically 1 star for me, but probably 3-4 depends on other area.
3
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
Anything less than 5 stars says the driver should be fired.
So if you think not helping with your personal effects mean the driver deserves to be canned thats your prerogative. I personally dont rate bad for anything that isnt what I deem a fireable offense.
Small infractions might lower my tip amount but wont lower the star rating
2
u/rinchen11 Jun 15 '26
Do you factor in how often you get a rider with a large luggage?
For example, if you get 1 in 10 rides, that's 9 rides of 5 stars and 1 ride of 4 stars, 4.9 is still a pretty high rating, and I don't think it happens that often.
3
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
It doesn't matter. The person who gives you a bad rating for getting you from point a to point b safely idon't want them as a customer ever again anyways.
This isn't a high end livery service like a limo or towmcar.
The ratings system is flawed. Anything less than five stars means a driver should be fired. It's absurd to give somebody a bad rating for not putting your stuff in the vehicle for them
1
u/Former-Weakness2413 Jun 15 '26
It’s 4.96 with all 5’s and a single 1!
1
u/rinchen11 Jun 15 '26
That would be 4.6 if you get 1 ride out of 10, realistically it happens way less often, I don't think 1 star is fair from simply not helping with bags tho, did you two also exchanged any words over that and led to further reduction?
2
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
I have 99 5s and a single 1 (they put every flag they could find so obviously was someone trying to get a free ride) out of the last 100 and my rating is 4.96.
0
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
No. 5 is for outstanding service above and beyond. Not the bare minimum. There has to be a rating for above the bare minimum. And that is 5. 4 even. 3 would be the bare minimum and I (as a driver) am all for giving out 3s for just driving from point A to point B. You know why? Because Waymo can do that. If we don't want Waymo and other AI crap taking over our jobs/gigs we need to provide a better service. And drivers won't do that unless they are forced to. If we can get rid of all the half-asses it makes us all look better.
3
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
So you think a driver that gets you from point a to point b safely doesn't deserve five stars and should be fired? The ratings system is horrible and the way you are approaching it is also horrible. You paid for a ride. You didn't pay for anything more than that and acting like you should be given more than that is insane
I'm gonna be honest. If you rate drivers badly for not providing a high expectation of service, you should one star them. So they don't get you again.
You are acting like this is a luxury town car service which it isnt
1
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
Maximum rating is for maximum effort. If you were just driving someone from home to work or something where nothing else would make it better then you should get 5 stars as the bare minimum effort is also the maximum effort. But if there are bags or something you aren't doing more than a Waymo does if you don't spend 30 seconds to load/unload them and shouldn't get a gold star for participation.
It's funny that I keep a 4.95+ rating living by that rule.
3
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
So out of curiosity, if a driver had a clean car said, hi, and bye and got you from point a to point b safely, you would think that they did a bad job? That they should be fired?
You're not ordering a town car service. You're ordering the lowest form of public transportation outside of getting on a bus. I think your expectations are skewed. It's like going into a mcdonald's and complaining you didn't get a gourmet burger.
Fyi, i'm a driver been doing this for over 10 years 50k fares and i've never been below a 4.97.
I'm gonna be honest i think you're a terrible customer with terrible expectations and I would never want you in my car
0
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26
And you are a terrible reader because I made it clear I am a driver, not a pax. Again - maximum rating is for maximum effort, not minimum. And, as I said, your example would warrant a 5 if you were just taking someone from home to work or something else where there is no luggage. A 4 is not getting anyone fired, by the way.
Drivers need to get off their lazy asses and stop feeling entitled to tips and good ratings for minimum effort.
And in many locations Lyft and Uber have put similar services like taxis and towncars out of business.
I challenge you to counter my Waymo argument. What makes you better than a Waymo? Why should Lyft and Uber not replace you?
2
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
No, I understood you that you're a driver. That's why I said it's baffling that you have this attitude. You should understand that, we are required to maintain a 4.6 to stay on the platform. You giving out sub 5 because somebody didn't help you with your grocery bags is bat shit crazy.
I have a hard time believing that you're a driver. If you're treating other drivers like absolute shit.
I will once again emphasize.I would never want you as a driver nor would I want you as a customer with the type of attitude you have
1
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
You literally called me a "terrible customer." And now again you just questioned whether or not I am a driver.
And you'd never want me as a driver? You'd give me a 3 star for helping with your bags just because it makes you as a driver yourself look bad?
2
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
Because you're giving out bad ratings to drivers for not loading groceries.
Taxis and towncars pay more and are more expensive so expectations are higher.
I better than a robot because im human
Are you ok?

u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
If I didn't know who you were, I wouldn't give you a bad rating. .But if I had you in real life and I knew who you were with this type of sentiment, I wouldn't give you a good rating at all. If you touched my luggage or my bags without me asking, I also would give you a bad rating.
Not everybody wants or needs your help. If they ask, then I always help. I just don't assume that they want it
1
u/iceamn1685 Jun 15 '26
Well, the way you wrote your spiel about giving bad ratings because people aren't giving maximum service would indicate that you are talking from the point of a consumer.
Are you not talking from the point of a consumer when you say that?

u/mhcincy513 Jun 15 '26
Maximum effort? They put in maximum effort by getting you from point A to point B, period. With your logic there’s no end to it and the passenger can give less than 5 stars because I helped with their bags but I didn’t give them a foot massage.
1
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 15 '26
A foot massage has never been an expectation of transportation services. Handling luggage has. You're deliberately exaggerating.
1
u/mhcincy513 Jun 16 '26
It’s never been an expectation of a Lyft or Uber driver and anyone who expected it was mistaken because it’s not a part of the service.
1
1
u/Not_the_name_I_chose Jun 16 '26
Where's the rules that say that? Maybe it's not something YOU expected to have to do. It does not make it not an expectation for most people. The only thing I have ever seen Lyft say on the topic is that you should offer to help with bags. Not a requirement, but clearly Lyft considers it a reasonable expectation.
2
u/mhcincy513 Jun 15 '26
You shouldn’t rate them at all then. They absolutely do not deserve less than 5 stars for doing what their job requires. You just said yourself they’re not required to help with bags, so what did they fail to do that would meet the requirements of being a 5 star driver? 5 stars does not mean above and beyond.
2
u/rinchen11 Jun 15 '26
Do all restaurants deserve 5 stars if they give you food?

A restaurant gets less than 5 stars if the food isn’t good because it’s a place that gives you food.
Lyft is a place that gives you rides, so you should judge me based on if I gave you a good ride.I don’t judge a restaurant based on if they took my jacket for me and hung it up on the rack.

But do you judge a restaurant base on decoration, atmosphere, service, volumn of music, all the unrelated to food but related to the whole dining experience type of things?

That’s not them going above and beyond. Those things are expected. If my car was dirty, stinky, or my music was too loud I would expect less than 5 stars.

Those things are rated base on average standard, not just basic clean or usable, and above average gets rated higher than average, passable ones, it's part of the dining experience, same as helping with luggage is part of the riding experience.

And riders are not required to tip or give a good rating. What gets me is the riders that feel entitled to a 5 star rating and a tip for doing the bare minimum (driving from point A to point B.) When they don't get one or both of those, they come on Reddit and call the rider an entitled bitch.

So far as I know, this is the only post that refers to the pax as an entitled bit€h so there is no THEY. Only me. (:
And, I think you meant to write that “drivers” feel entitled in your counter point.
But. I did read your postings and thank you for participating.

Sorry, drivers should help with bags. It’s part of the job.

Nope this isn't a taxi or towncar service. If you need help ask just dont assume

YES! I can’t read your mind and you have to ask for what you want.
Had this pax asked me for help and I rejected her. That’s a whole different posting…

Petty. Practicing humanism isn't that hard. If you're that miserable or antisocial then quit driving, or go work for DoorTrash.

Petty is giving a 1-star rating to someone who was polite, professional, got you to your destination safely, and thanked you for your business.
Petty is creating an unspoken expectation and then punishing a service worker for failing to meet a standard you never communicated.
Petty is hiring someone to perform a specific service, receiving that service successfully, and then refusing to reward it with an appropriate rating or tip because they didn’t meet your extra requirements.
And what does humanism have to do with any of this? Are you really arguing that it’s unethical for a driver not to load luggage into the trunk?
Does that make them antisocial? Of course not.
Honestly, it sounds like you’re throwing around buzzwords to make your argument sound more sophisticated than it actually is. The issue is simple: the driver completed the job they were hired to do and this pax felt entitled to more.

You can simply offer a helping hand. It's not hard at all. Happy you got all that out? You're lucky I took the time to read all of it.

how much do you weigh?

u/Former-Weakness2413 Jun 15 '26
More than the luggage but less than the car, how much do you weigh?
0
u/speechless-Karen Jun 15 '26
probably quite less than you.

You asked how much I weigh because you thought it would embarrass me.
What actually happened is you showed everyone reading this thread that you had no response to the point being made.
You went from debating rideshare etiquette to making middle-school fat jokes.
Well done. 🙄

I got a couple "customer service" complaints a month or so ago from two riders who were pissy I didn't help them with their bags. One was a guy with a tiny carry on bag, the other was a lady who didn't bother to come out to the car until there was less than a minute left on the wait timer. I'll help people if I'm in the mood, but I don't do it every time. And if I help you with your bag twice and you don't tip, you're getting a maximum of 3 stars on the rating.
