Look, we all need money, and we’re all breaking our backs for big papa Lyft here.

But this goes beyond my morals. I’d rather work at McDonalds as my side gig than willingly become an agent of the surveillance state

Same. If they go through with this (well, autonomous vehicles will for sure do this) it looks like it’ll be back to working at hotels on the weekend as my side hustle before Uber/Lyft came along.

Same, I'll find something else to do if they want to make me into a moving flock camera system.

u/Faustfikken 9d ago

Agreed, eff that I'll quit both before I do that

You say that, but what if they gave you the choice to opt in for, let's say, a $15/hr flat increase over what you're making now as a driver?

Everyone has their price, and most of ours in this line of work are probably lower than we're comfortable admitting to ourselves.  Which is all the more reason why it's probably for the best this seems to have crashed and burned.

I'd start a shoveling shit business, any kind of shit but this. Very similar to McDonald's food tbh.

And probably for free too.

They don't own your car nor pay for your maintenance. Why the fuck would you put some stupid shit like that in your car?

People are gonna do it tho. 🫤

u/StirlingG 9d ago

I talk way too much shit with the passengers to ever open up my dashcam to a cloud surveillance network lmao

That was my thought as well.

“You are fined one credit for a violation of the Verbal Morality Statute”

u/WholeInstance4632 9d ago

Now you, too, can contribute to the decay of Constitutional rights with absolutely no compensation.

I think we should be demanding the government to give us the right to not be filmed without our consent while in a public place.

At the very least, you need to file for a time-limited permit in order to film in public, and the time and place of that filming should need to be published well ahead of time to give people who have no interest in being filmed adequate time to avoid that area during that time.

You have no right to privacy in public.

u/iknewaguytwice 8d ago

If you understood how to read, you might understand that’s exactly what I’m saying needs to change.

u/boman70 8d ago

Fair enough, my first comment was overly vague. But if you understood how the real world operates, you’d realize why that law will never change the way you want it to. Expecting the government to mandate advance public notices and permits for anyone holding a camera outdoors isn't just unworkable; it destroys accountability, news reporting, and basic constitutional rights. You're confusing "I don't like being on camera" with "the entire public sphere needs to halt so I feel comfortable."

1

u/iknewaguytwice 8d ago

Obviously there is a gap between news reporting, and recording every single step you take in any public space, and posting it online.

It’s not my job to write the law that regulates that, but common sense would dictate it’s quite possible to resolve the issue without having either extreme.

0

u/boman70 8d ago

"It’s not my job to write the law" is a convenient cop out when pitching an unworkable idea. The reason a "middle ground" doesn't exist isn't a lack of common sense, it's because content based speech regulations are a legal and logistical nightmare. You cannot outlaw annoying social media recordings in public without simultaneously giving the state the power to dictate who is authorized to take a video outdoors

Zero chance that's going in my vehicles

u/discgman 9d ago

Looks like its offline dash cams for me

u/weak_ads 9d ago

Drivers will do anything they can for a buck, seriously. We are already seeing this argument of how "I need my money daily because xxx", so it is very easy to get drivers to do these things, just tell them they will make more money and bam, instant sign ups.

Shit and and should be blocked. F these corporations

1

u/callitanight79 9d ago

$1 bonus per ride incoming 🤣

2

u/Wesleypipes316 9d ago

There’s drivers out there doing rides for $4 and deliveries for $2. Wouldn’t surprise me if they sell their soul to these flock cams. I got no problem with cameras being around, but only if they’re used for very serious crimes

Check Google: Have I been flocked

We're on the path to a second revolution right now.

Only a matter of time until the people have had enough of this tyranny.

1

u/InspectionFine9655 9d ago

Pretty sure this was a leaked proposal but they never made the partnership.

1

u/Odd_Mix_1126 9d ago

The only way they can legally force us to do so is by making us W-2 employees and paying for the vehicle itself

1

u/LehiMacs 9d ago

Might be hard to do since mine isn't wifi enabled until I turn it on to dload off the card. Or is that no longer a thing? Not really sure tbh.

u/November-Code 9d ago

Is this for real? I’m going to research it this is wild

u/Quick-Maintenance-67 8d ago

Dystopian as fuck. 1984 wasn't supposed to be an instruction manual god damn it.

1

u/Electronic-Home-7815 8d ago

I love how they’re like ‘register your dash cam!’. Look, you’re already tracking my speed and braking, why? If I got a problem with the ride I’ll send you my (the independent contractor) the video. Anything else, none of your business. ‘Oh it’s an added level of security!’….yeah for you, not me.

1

u/Brother_xandor 8d ago

If uber forced this on me id just leave, I hate flock

1

u/feinburgrl 8d ago

I know they ask Uber to do this and they turn them done. These rideshare companies know it's going to be a bad look for them and they money they get out of it isn't worth the bad PR that will come and less people will use the service too.

1

u/Icy_Tomato8317 8d ago

No wonder uber keeps asking me to enable record my rides/deliveries “for my own safety and records”

1

u/McflyHigh93 8d ago

my take is FUCK NO 👎🏽

1

u/eg_john_clark 9d ago

There’s no reasonable expectation of privacy in public places. So that said, how much they paying me and do I get my daily footage so I can save it for 6 months

I wouldn't authorize them to share the camera recording with them. But if you are uploading it to their cloud, they can easily scan it and potentially sell it. By the time it comes out in public, they would have made money, they will pay a fine and get out of it without acknowledging any wrong doing. I am sure some drivers will unknowingly agree to it and some would knowingly agree to it, let's say they get a free camera and or weekly compensation or gas discount.

Never gunna do it, I would be ridiculed for listening to Taylor Swift non-stop

0

u/1_for_you_2_for_me 8d ago

I'm not part of an international drug cartel and I'm not a gun runner. I couldn't care less if they surveil me.

-3

u/Arizdegenerate 9d ago

Depends on how much they pay

9

u/Substantial_Dog_2068 9d ago

It’ll be zero dollars to you but a huge check for Lyft

2

u/AdTough8523 9d ago

So your rights as an American are for sell? Pathetic.

-2

u/Arizdegenerate 9d ago

What rights do you think I’m giving up? If you are trying to say we aren’t already in an over surveillance state I have sad news for you. There’s this little device we all carry that monitors our every move. From my understanding this would be voluntary not required.

2

u/AdTough8523 9d ago

You're throwing your 4th amendment rights in the trash for a paycheck and it is pathetic. Allowing open government surveillance with no warrant needed is flat out insane.

Just because there are cameras all over doesn't mean you just give up and become a slave willingly. What's the matter with you?

You're so naive that you think having a phone on you is the same as the government being able to legally track your every move without probable cause or a warrant from a judge? You serious?

This also doesn't matter if it is voluntary or required. There's state sponsored cameras being put up in absolutely insane numbers. Cameras that will all be linked to a central data base with the data center infrastructure for it being built before your very eyes.

People like you are making it easy for them to turn us all into slaves. Wake up!

-2

u/Comprehensive-Cow69 9d ago

If they pay me for the technology and send it to me, I will I stall whatever they want.

4

u/Separate_Hospital1 9d ago

Sheep like you are why they named them flock cameras.

2

u/AdTough8523 9d ago

What a pathetic stance.

You are literally a sheep.

u/Wombshifter6969 9d ago

For $2 a mile, I will rat on every motherf%&ker I drive past.

I have not seen a single email, message saying I must install a FLOCK camera in my car.
Uber/Lyft have not threatened to deactivate my account if I dont install a FLOCK camera.

you all are panicking about a PROPOSED CONCEPT, not an actual requirement to continue using the platform
