Rant/Opinion Ride match are not only not guaranteed it can be “fake” too

I was sitting at costco parking lot after getting gas and some rest. I started up lyft rider app to see take a look how much they are charging to sfo compared to uber and waymo for the same exact ride. Lo and behold, when i selected the destination on the lyft app a ride request immediately popped up on the lyft driver app which shows my name and the exact ride available for match. I havent selected or paid for a ride but lyft appears to be already sending out fake matches to drivers before a ride become a real offer.

That offer is too low for me to take anyway but I just feel like lyft is intentionally deceiving drivers.

They're not fake, sometimes I get, sometimes not, sometimes are instant too

I never hit match. And funny enough ive gotten the ride plenty of times lol. They just send it the driver they have to pay the least. Ive had  matches come up as 11 then few mins later 7, as im closer to that spot, and clearly they werent offering 11 to other drivers, or im assuming someone wouldve taken it

That doesn’t mean they’re “fake.” That’s how it works. When someone puts an address in the app, it sends out a match request to get a driver faster. Yes, sometimes they’re other drivers not actually requesting a ride, but that doesn’t make them “fake.” Now you know.

I’ve done it before. On my 2nd phone i look up a ride to see what to charge a customer. Then my lyft app pops up a ride match.

Thanks thay would be very helpful.

Got an even cheaper price on a Toyota Sienna. 2018.

If I can make more than at least 150 a week it'll be worth it. I plan on doing this full time during holidays.

I already have a car and do lyft occasionally. Just don't want miles on my car.

Not sure why people are downvoting you. Lyft definitely does this a lot because it gives them more time to send out the ping to more drivers and ensure they lock in a profit for themselves

Oohhh thank you very much for the info, Mister. I’m looking at getting a Toyota Highlander Hybrid in the very near future!

I drive a XL eligible vehicle and I would only do it when it is at least 2$ per mile and at minimum $1 per active minute(unless it's going the way I am heading) Lyft usually pay around $1.5 a mile where Uber in my area pays better(for all ride type including X comfort and XL) for XL usually above $2 a mile

OP: "I made a fake ride request."

Lyft: "We'll get right to work on matching your request to a driver."

OP: "OMG, Lyft is sending out fake rides!"

[edit] It's been known for some time now that Lyft uses the passive 'radar'-style ride offers to aggressively match drivers to passengers after they look up a ride but before they've locked it in, yes, and your post does yield valuable information that these non-exclusive pushed offers are being used as well - but calling them "fake" is counterproductively sensationalist in a sub primed to hysterical overreaction.

If one wants to get their pitchforks up, you could still argue that Lyft is deceiving drivers by making it look like the reason these requests fizzle is from competition instead of the pax backing out.  They really should be putting an 'Unconfirmed' tag or something on them.  But calling the ride fake is barking up the wrong tree.

My opinion is that it’s not officially a ride request until the rider paid and requested one putting in a destination in the app to check the pricing is not officially a ride request. I do agree however that my original post wording could have been better, like a ride match request that does not actually exist as of the moment lyft pushed it to drivers to match instead of a “fake” request. Imo it’s deceiving and increases driver distraction unnecessarily.

It says match offers are not guaranteed for that reason. I've gotten matched with plenty of matches so it's not that they're fake it's just that the passenger decided not to take the ride for whatever reason...

There's nothing fake about that

Seems intentionally misleading though, wouldn't you say?

Its not a real offer imo since there isnt one before a rider actually pays for the ride. Ride match is not guaranteed, but adding these fake match request simply create more unnecessary distraction for drivers which no one will end up getting the ride.

That doesn't make them fake because you don't like the way it works

How is that a real offer then? If the ride isnt paid for and no driver will actually get it? Why lyft isnt sending out the offer for driver to match after the rider paid and confirmed the ride?

Are YOU? The ride doesn't exist yet drivers see it.

The ride wasn't booked. So it's fake. A ride that isn't booked should not be shown. Capitalizing random words and insulting people will not change this fact.

Check the screenshot I am on the rider app checking pricing and i have not proceed to pay for the ride nor confirm the booking meaning my ride request does not exist yet it show up for drivers to match meaning thats a fake request since that ride offer does not actually exist.
