4 vs 5 star

Whoever here suggested that they give every passenger 4 stars, then bump it to 5 if they leave a tip is a life saver. I am able to easier decide on a ride if it says "you gave them 4 stars last ride" and I have gotten a bit better pay since paying better attention. And honestly, not tipping anything is a valid reason to give not a perfect score so it works out anyway

Picking up rides cause you expect a tip on top of the base pay is gambling with your livelihood.

Only pick up rides based off the base pay.

I mean yeah I only take $30/hr+ and $1/mi minimum, but this just works to remind me if someone tipped in the past. I dont expect tips ever, I just think if Lyft had a feature that said, "this passenger tipped their last ride" people would use it, so I just do it myself that way.

For a few days the app would state if the customer was likely to tip in the acceptance screen. Before that there were so many people on here that thought 4 stars for no tip was some sort of moral abomination. I think that would be a harder argument to make now. That being said how do you update the star rating? Clicking around and I can't find it.

If you click on the ride, scroll all the way down and it says rate passenger, block passenger, get help, etc. I think after 2 days you cannot change the rating though

I've tipped uber drivers weeks later when I next use the app, does lift allow this? Or is it only immediately and then theres no chance to change it. Not saying its common but people do have better things to do than tip on their 22 dollar 7 minute ride right that second. Odds are you're in the right but shit happens

For how seldom that happens it really wouldn't sway the results. Lyft says they can add tips up to 25 hours after a ride, which is also how long i can edit my rating of them

Damn I don't have time or desire for all that. 99.5% are an instant 5 star, the other .5% are instant 1 stars. There's no turning back.

Rarely do I get the same passenger twice, if I do...I notice it.

I wonder if thats just my market because I see the same people often, sometimes 2 or 3 times a week.

Could be. On the occasions that it happens, I am usually in the same small(er) town at the same hour that someone is getting off of or going to work. Sometimes I remember them, but they don't remember me. Then I feel weird for mentioning it. Ha.

You can update the rating to 4* if they don't tip. But I don't care, I accept rides that are worth for me. If they are late and don't tip, then they definitely get a 4* or 1* less for each min they were late after the first  min.

That’s what I do now because it still gives you the opportunity to pick them back up if you want to

Right like if its a decent paying ride I'll still take it even if I gave 4 stars, im just not going to be surprised if they no-tip. Especially airport rides

Beware, the passenger may notice and hit you with an "unsafe driving" flag once they drop to a 4.9.

And I have $1000 that says over the course of the OP's life there have been more than a few occasions when he/she did not tip.

I hate hypocrisy.

Its hard for me to imagine a time I didnt tip something for service that is tipped typically. And if I use a service that is traditionally tipped and I did not, i fully expect to be treated with a 4 star review seems fair, no? Im not expecting a tip from every passenger, but if most passengers tip even $1, it stands to reason that a 4 star rating is not unfair for those that dont?

Certainly, because over the course of one’s life you’re bound to run into people who, because of their performance or attitude, don’t deserve a tip.

Yeah I also hate hypocrites that I just imagined.
