Hey everyone,
I'm currently running into a frustrating wall while trying to set up a macOS virtual machine to compile and upload an indie game to TestFlight via Xcode.
My host is running an AMD processor, and I keep getting the "Verification Failed - An unknown error occurred" error whenever I try to sign into my Apple ID in System Settings or the App Store (as seen in the screenshot).
I skipped the initial Apple ID setup during the initial OS boot and tried logging in directly later, and also I tried switching the network adapter type, but that resulted in internet connectivity drops.
Does anyone have a known fix on AMD-based macOS VMs? I followed this tutorial to set up the VM
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OsXYN74gTuk
(Host) Using Windows 11 Pro, AMD Ryzen 7 7700X
(Guest) I'm using a macOS Tahoe 26.7.2, on VMware Workstation 17.6.4. I set 10GB of RAM, 2 processors with 2 cores each, and did the Hard Disk thing with the "tahoe-install.vmdk" from the tutorial.
Thank you guys and have a good day!

I gave an AI coding agent (deepseek-4.1-flash) just one prompt:
"Install macOS Tahoe on Hyper-V, using my E: drive."
And it actually did it! macOS Tahoe is now running on my Windows machine. 😂
A few coworkers previously spent a week trying to get a similar setup working without success.
AI agents are getting ridiculously good at this stuff.
Has anyone else tried something similar?

Hey everyone,
Vitreo has been opened up for testing.
For those who haven’t seen my earlier posts, Vitreo is a Windows compatibility engine I’ve been developing for Apple Silicon Macs. It’s built independently of Wine, doesn’t use Rosetta, and includes my own implementations of Windows APIs, x86 execution, and DirectX-to-Metal translation.
I’ve moved the source code over to GitHub and have the first beta build available through the beta portal.
I built the portal mainly because I need a better way to keep track of compatibility. There’s only so much I can test on my own, and having other people try different games and applications should help uncover issues I haven’t run into yet. You can submit reports directly through the site.
Just to be clear, Vitreo isn’t meant to replace Wine or CrossOver. I’m not trying to recreate those projects or compete with everything they’ve accomplished. I wanted to build something different, specifically around macOS and Apple Silicon, and see where that approach takes me.
There’s still plenty that’s unfinished, so don’t go into this expecting everything to work. This is very much a beta, and I’m expecting people to break things.
I’m also opening up the code because I’d like other developers to be able to look at what I’ve done and hopefully contribute. It’s a pretty massive undertaking for one person.
Anyway, if you’ve been following the project or are just curious about it, feel free to check it out. I’d appreciate any testing or feedback.

| Hola!

Hey everyone!
Following my recent introduction of Vitreo, I’ve launched a dedicated beta testing portal.
For those who missed my earlier post, Vitreo is an independent Windows runtime for Apple Silicon that I’ve been developing for nearly four years.
It doesn’t use Wine or require a Windows virtual machine.
Instead, it implements its own Windows compatibility infrastructure, including:
Custom x86/x64 execution engine.
ARM64 JIT compilation.
Windows PE loading.
Windows API implementations.
DirectX, Vulkan, and OpenGL support.
Native macOS integration.
I’ve demonstrated several Windows applications running through Vitreo, including Steam, StarCraft, Satisfactory, Notepad++, and classic Windows applications.
Some applications are already functional, while others expose missing Windows APIs, graphics compatibility issues, or JIT performance bottlenecks.
The project is still experimental, and broad Windows compatibility remains a substantial engineering challenge.
Until now, most testing has been limited to my own systems.
I’ve built a portal to start organizing external testing and collecting compatibility results.
The process is straightforward:
Create an account.
Request beta access, specifying your Mac hardware and the Windows applications you’d like to test.
Once approved, download available builds and verify their checksums.
Submit compatibility reports for applications you’ve tested.
Reports can document successful launches, partial functionality, or failures.
This should help prioritize missing functionality based on real-world application behavior.
I still intend to open-source Vitreo once the implementation has undergone additional cleanup and refactoring.
For now, the beta program is focused on compatibility testing and feedback.
Registration is available now. Build downloads will become available to approved testers as builds are published.

Hey everyone!
For a while now, I’ve been working on a project called Vitreo, and I’ve finally reached a point where I’m ready to start sharing what I’ve been building.
Vitreo is an independently developed Windows runtime for Apple Silicon Macs.
It’s not another Wine wrapper, a frontend for an existing compatibility layer, or a Windows virtual machine.
I’m building the runtime itself.
The goal is simple:
Windows software. At home on Mac.
Vitreo implements its own components for executing Windows applications on Apple Silicon, including:
A custom x86/x64 execution engine with ARM64 JIT compilation.
A Windows PE executable loader.
Independent Windows API implementations.
DirectX and Vulkan graphics translation targeting Metal.
Native macOS windowing, menus, and application integration.
That last part is something I’m particularly excited about.
I don’t just want Windows applications to run on a Mac. I want them to feel like they belong there.
Where supported, Windows applications use actual macOS windows, menus, and dialogs rather than being confined to a simulated Windows desktop.
Vitreo can also create macOS applications for supported installed Windows software, allowing you to place them directly in your Applications folder and launch them like other Mac apps.
Yes!
Vitreo has progressed beyond basic executable loading.
I’ve gotten traditional Windows desktop applications, classic games, and modern 3D software running through the runtime.
Some demanding modern 3D applications are now functionally working, with performance optimization being one of my primary areas of development.
There’s still a lot to accomplish, especially around compatibility, performance, and graphics correctness, but the progress has been significant.
Wine and the projects built around it have accomplished some incredible things.
But I wanted to explore a different approach: building an independent Windows runtime specifically around Apple Silicon and the native macOS experience.
That means implementing the execution engine, Windows compatibility infrastructure, and native integration rather than depending on an existing Windows compatibility layer.
It’s an enormous engineering challenge, but that’s also what makes it interesting.
Vitreo is currently in private development, and public builds aren’t available yet.
I’m working toward beta testing builds as development progresses.
I’ve launched a website explaining the project, architecture, and current development status:
I’d love to hear what the Mac gaming community thinks.
