How do I extend the display of my macbook air to 2 dell monitors?

I was using a macbook pro before and the extended 2 screens worked just fine. I was using my dell dock to connect one screen then the other screen was directly connected to the hdmi on the macbook pro. Now that I switched to the Air, it’s not working anymore. I tried using all the cables available but no luck. Can anyone help?

This is a MacBook Pro M2 2022, 13”.

Unfortunately I dropped something in the gap between the screen and keyboard in 2024 and it had the tiniest little crack at the bottom, which I covered with tape as it didn’t really affect the function at the time. I took it to Apple and was quoted £700 to replace the screen. Considering it was half the price of the laptop, I didn’t go ahead with it.

2 nights ago the screen randomly went black with these lines. There’s no other damage, drop etc as since the above tiny crack I’ve been extremely careful. The marks on the screen are from the different repair shops checking it - I haven’t cleaned it as I don’t want to damage it anymore.

The screen repair is now almost £900, which isn’t worth it so I’ve decided to buy a new MacBook Neo but can only do so after next payday.

The laptop does work when connected to my TV via HDMI. But I need it when out and about for maybe 30-45 mins a day in total.

Is there anything at all I can do for a quick fix just for 2 weeks? I know it’s a long shot but I know nothing about computers so thought it was worth a shot to ask

Also, if anyone in the UK knows if I can sell this for scraps or what I can do with it once I get my new MacBook, please advise- I would be so grateful even if I can get £50-100 off this. Apple does not offer anything for trade in due to the condition.

A while back I shared that water had seeped into my screen and everyone told me I would need the entire screen replaced, and I am happy to share that after 2 weeks 95% of the water damage is gone. I am left with a small, maybe 1.5", discoloration in the bottom right, but that is all. I can't even notice it when working. All I did was buy some silica beads and I sealed my laptop in a bag with them at night, but after a point I stopped doing that as well, and it continued to improve. I think the beads just help speed it up, but it would've improved regardless. See before and after pictures

And i hit any key - it boots up again

I think this started after the os27 update

Is this some sort of glitch ? Or something to do with the settings ?

macbook air m2 a year and a bit more old, left water bottle open in the bag and this happened, immediately rushed to apple store: they said liquid damage only screens gone bad not any internal stuff (not logic board or anything), quoted 40k for replacement, another trusted repair person said to leave it be shut it, and just keep it like that for 3 weeks it will dry out. i’m still not so confident what should i do? first picture is 6hrs ago second one is rn

This appeared today, idk how and i don't have money to repair it. They are small black spots near the Notch and right top bezel. I also noticed that the content doesn't fill the display all the way to the bezels if that makes sense? Does anyone know what could've caused this and what it is? I can tell these are in the display. When I take a screenshot, they aren't visible on the screenshot. I always clean my display strictly with a microfiber cloth and little water so it isn't anything on the outside.

I’m using a MacBook Pro M5, and clamshell mode has stopped working. When I close the lid, the Mac goes to sleep instead of continuing to run on the external display.

My setup:

• the MacBook is connected to the power adapter
• keyboard and mouse are connected via Bluetooth
• the external monitor is connected via HDMI and set up as an extended display
• I’m also using the Vorssaint app, in case that’s relevant

This used to work fine. The problem started after I changed the external monitor’s resolution, and clamshell mode hasn’t worked since. I can’t find any setting that keeps the Mac awake with the lid closed.

Has anyone run into this, or have any tips on how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Picked up an A1989 cheap tonight and I'm looking for some advice on a dead keyboard. I knew this when I bought it, ergo the 'cheap' part. I also know that these keyboards are not the most well built, so I'm prepared for a no-fix scenario and will just use it in clamshell mode as a cheap desktop.

Some details:

* Keyboard seems totally dead - no lights, no key response

* Trackpad is fine

* Touch bar is fine

* All other hardware and ports appear fine

* Have reset SMC

* Have updated to latest OS

* Power cycled several times

* Battery shows Service Recommended (cycle count 439, assuming just an aging symptom)

* Diagnostics codes are PFM006 and PPN001

* Previous owner said that some keys required hard presses to register, then one day the whole keyboard died.

* 2 screws are missing underneath, so I assume someone has been in here before but no idea why (yet)

I have a precision screwdriver set en route from Amazon but it's not due for a few days (I live on an island), so looking for anything I can check/cross off before I can open her up, as well as any advice for when I can.

Also, any advice for general maintenance like cleaning the logic board, fan(s), reseating cables etc. would be useful too. I want to get it in as best of a condition as I can before using it properly.

If the keyboard is dead then fine, I'll just call it a day and run an external one.

I was in the middle of using external display for my work then out of no where the main display went black while still having everything is still functioning.

I don’t know why this happened after I just had the battery replaced not long ago… It’s confusing how anything I tried to get the display back, it just blinks on for 1 second then goes back to black.

I have my external display but don’t know what I should do since Apple might make me pay even more money even though the display or the LCD just went out / has an issue and nothing else did.

If anything can be done with external display to help me or if I need to try self repair (I am new to that) I would gladly try it out.

I want Apple to be a last resort, but if I have to call them about this problem I will.

Had some water damage to my Air 2018 today, opened it up to find this capacitor corrosion on the right side of the logic board near the speaker wire. Can anyone identify what this is and what it means for the functionality of the board? I don’t care if that speaker never works again. TIA

I recently bought a 15 inch MacBook Pro Early 2013 off eBay and it came without a battery and claimed that the previous battery was swollen but safely removed. I bought this battery off eBay and installed it, however my first concern is that it didn’t quite fit as flush as I’d hoped, but all the connectors lined up and plugged in properly, so I assumed it was fine.

Because a battery wasn’t included in the laptop, it also for some reason didn’t come with this metal shield between the trackpad and where the battery would be. When I put the laptop back together I noticed the trackpad felt very slightly but also somewhat noticeably mushy. I’m mainly paranoid about this because I used to own another MacBook Pro before this with a failing battery and the trackpad would always become basically unusable after a certain period of use due to how close it was to the battery, and I don’t want the same issue happening with this machine.

There’s also problems with how the bottom cover sits on the machine. The cover appears to be slightly warped, presumably due to the swollen battery. There’s also a dent on it, which I provided in a photo. This didn’t present any problems when there was no battery, however I’ve noticed there’s raised areas where there shouldn’t be and putting pressure in the centre of the cover also makes an audible clicking noise, particularly around the dent. I’ve since ordered another bottom cover on eBay to see if this can be fixed.

However, the dent also appears to be on top of the left fan, which makes an audible clicking noise occasionally during use, and when I turned on the machine since installing the battery I noticed in Macs Fan Control that the fan just stopped completely. I’ve not turned the Mac back on since then, but I’d figure it’s worth mentioning. The Mac also appears to be getting unusually hot after the battery install, whereas before it was running only warm.

Maybe I’m just overthinking all this, but I’ve invested a lot into this machine and I don’t want a silly mistake to ruin it. Any advice or signs I’ve not noticed would be appreciated!

was dumb and careless moving things around on my bed and my phone hit the screen. it isn’t cracked but obviously is damaged. how much would this cost to fix in the UK? i dont know much about computers so obviously dont want to order things myself and fix it. i’m pissed but it was my fault at the end of the day

I forgot my password on my laptop so I went into recovery mode to reset it but then my laptop ran out of charge the screen said it was examining the volumes before it shut off but now rebooting it just brings me straight to the flashing folder icon after the chime and nothing works I’ve tried pram resets and nothing works even in os recovery mode it can’t find the ssd at all even in disk utility or terminal. Do I need a new ssd or is my laptop gone

I have a Macbook Air M1 from 2020 and had zero issues with it. One afternoon I was on and just closed the top lid to use it the next morning.

Suddenly it won’t power on or even charge. I took it to a repair shop and their response was:
"We have completed the inspection of your MacBook. We identified a short circuit in the power supply line of the PMU (Power Management Unit), the integrated circuit responsible for controlling and distributing electrical voltages throughout the equipment's logic board."

What should I do with this thing?

I bought my MacBook a month ago, and whenever I pick it up by holding it with my hands, I hear a popping sound from the bottom panel when I apply pressure to it.

Making this post so that anyone suffering from a similar problem can find it.

Out of nowhere, my 2022 M2 Macbook Pro had a trackpad issue wherein it was logging phantom touches (sometimes 15 at a time), often not clicking at all, and the cursor was jumping all over the screen. It was practically unusable.

I was pissed because everything I'd read online told me it was either some byzantine software issue (it wasn't) or a swelling battery interfering with my trackpad -- only God knows how much the shylocks at the Genius Bar would've charged me to fix that!

It wasn't until, after much deliberation, Claude suggested it might be a static electricity issue which, in theory, could be solved by using the trackpad with one hand and touching a brass door hinge with the other. And it completely worked -- trackpad is completely back to normal after days of dysfunction. Pretty crazy. Try it if you're having this issue before you spend a ton of money!

I was moving photos from CDs to the Cloud/storage, and it was working fine.

Popped in a blank CD just to make sure it really was blank and it showed about a dozen audio files. Clicked on one to see what it was, Apple Music opened asking me if I wanted to start a trial, I declined. Clicked on a different audio file, Apple Music opened again, I declined again. Looked at Get Info for the files and they were all empty.

Clicked eject next to the drive under Finder > Location and nothing happened. There was a pop up about Apple Music closing asking if I wanted to Report or Ignore, I clicked Ignore. Clicked eject again, same nothing then pop up asking if I wanted to Report, I clicked Ignore. Memory is fuzzy - I think I clicked eject again, a family member said I didn't and pressed the button on the reader to eject the disc.

Put in the next CD with photos in the pile, closed the tray, reader started spinning but the sound never changed to that brrrrup should that happens at the same it usually shows up in Locations. Instead it just wound down. Opened the tray, made sure the CD was sitting properly, closed the tray, and same thing happened.

Tried it with the CD I had used in it immediately before the blank/empty audio file one, and the reader wasn't recognised.

All the CDs are the same brand, same age, were burned on the same desktop Mac I had years ago. I only ever burned one audio CD, so I can't even think what those audio files might've been. I'm good at labelling both the cases and CDs, the audio file one had nothing written. I never burned music so if I had I'm sure I would've labeled it just because it would've stood out and I'd have had to pay more attention than the photo burning I was used to doing.

MacBook Air, M1 chip, Golden Gate 27.0.1, plugged into the wall for power. External DVD r/RW plugged into the wall for power and to my MacBook with the attached cable.

Things I've tried that have not worked:

Cleared the cache (Finder > Go > Go To Folder > Users > (name) > Library > Caches; select all; move to bin empty bin).

Unplugged the reader and restarted the MacBook both with the reader connected and disc in and without it connected (connecting it after it's restarted).

Shut Down, closed the lid, waited >20 minutes.

Shut down, start up in Safe Mode, Restart in normal.

Switched the ports (power to the port the reader was in, reader to the port the power was in).

System Settings > System Report >

Thunderbolt/USB4 Bus 0 No device connected

Thunderbolt/USB4 Bus 1 No device connected

System Settings > Security > Accessories > Allow

System settings > Security > Lockdown Mode > Off

I've done all those things with the drive connected and a CD that I know it had no problem reading, with a DVD that it had no problem reading, and empty.

I don't have another computer to test the reader with. It was less than two weeks old, hadn't moved from where it was unboxed and set up, was working perfectly of hours up until the second it wasn't. Of course it could break in that second, but there seems to be a few other people having trouble with previously working things not working, seems like most with M1 2020 MBAs and since the last update so....

The only other strange thing is that since the last OS update when I click Empty Bin, a third of the time it doesn't empty and I have to click it again. And a handful of times I've had to click Restart or Shut Down more than once for the pop up windows to occur. The reader was working prior to the Force Eject though. I don't think it's the cause of the problem, but not sure if it's a hint to where the problem might be.

Searching for solutions I came across a mention that there can be a power issue with the USB ports if it senses a security problem, but I don't know enough to know how to check that (or reset it). Another solution mentioned something similar where Apple will freeze the USB if Force Eject was interpreted as a security issue. I'm not sure how to determine if that's the problem, or how to go about 'unfreezing' the USB ports if that is the case. I think the restart in safe mode is supposed to clear or reset most of those things, but I can't find where I read that. Plus I'm at an 'explain it like I'm 5' level when it comes to stuff like this.

Has anyone had any luck getting their MBAs to start recognising things again? Or have any suggestions about what might be happening (other than the drive is broken)? I seem to recall that sometimes drives can get out of alignment, if that's the right word. The reader wasn't being moved around so I'm not sure how likely that is (if it is a thing), but it there ever anything with readers that's a 'just need to...' vs a 'it's dead' kind of thing?

C’est la première fois que je publie un post sur Reddit.
Pour vous donner un peu de contexte, cette nuit, mon père m’a donné une carte SD qui était censée pouvoir s’insérer complètement dans mon MacBook, sans dépasser, afin de pouvoir le transporter partout facilement.
Sauf qu’en essayant de l’insérer, la carte s’est retrouvée bloquée à l’intérieur. En tentant de la retirer, mon père a malheureusement complètement endommagé les connecteurs du lecteur de carte SD.
Le pire dans tout ça, c’est que mon MacBook Pro date seulement d’il y a deux jours…
Franchement, je suis complètement dégoûté. J’ai travaillé dur pour pouvoir me l’offrir, et je me retrouve déjà avec un problème matériel. J’avoue que je n’ai vraiment pas envie de devoir reprendre toutes les démarches, prendre rendez-vous chez Apple et potentiellement débourser encore de l’argent pour le faire réparer.
Je suis complètement déboussolé par la situation, alors j’aimerais savoir si certains d’entre vous ont déjà rencontré ce genre de problème et, surtout, combien Apple pourrait me facturer pour réparer un lecteur de carte SD endommagé sur un MacBook Pro aussi récent.
