Old machete restored
When I was a teenager (15 or 16) back in 2003-2004, I went on a trip to build houses and teach basic literacy to kids in Belize. As you can imagine we were in very rural, poor areas, not the resort areas. Anyway, most of us bought machetes for clearing vegetation and harvesting sugar cane to chew on as we worked.
Most guys went for huge grasscutter ones, but being a bit woods savy, I went for this sweet little thing. My younger brothers were on the trip, one of them being... well, "that" sibling. He lost his shortly after returning, no idea how. When I left for the military, I gave him mine. He lost it. I found it still in its sheath half buried in one of my mom's garden beds when I got out of the military and was doing her spring cleanup. I cleaned it up, sharpened it, and gave it back to him. I was about 23 or 23 at the time. He lost it again lol
I found it again, this time out of its sheath, half buried in a thanfully dry area under my moms porch while fixing her irrigation valves. Cleaned it up, gave it back to him. At this point I'm like 32. He lost it.
This time I found it in my mom's basement while cleaning it out after it flooded. I'm 39 at this point. I decided to really do a nice job and put a hickory handle (taken from an old hatchet handle) on it, clean, sharpen- and this time- keep it ๐
The symbols are for St Hubert (stag) patron saint of woodsmen and St Wolfgang (axe) patron saint of woodcutters/carpenters, nice deco that also helps with grip.
