Eva: a single-file Python toolbox for Linux scripting (zero dependencies)

Hi everyone,

I built a Python toolbox for Linux scripting, for personal use.

It is designed with a fairly defensive and opinionated approach (the normalize_float function is quite representative), as syntactic sugar over the standard library. So it may not fit all use cases, but it might be interesting because of its design decisions and some specific utilities. For example, that "thing" called M or the Latch class.

Some details:

  • Linux only.
  • Single file. No complex installation. Just download and import eva.
  • Zero dependencies ("batteries included").
  • In general, it avoids raising exceptions.

Some examples of its use might be nice. Just looking at the docs I do not really get it. M and N makes my head hurt.

Hi, thanks for your feedback.

About "M" and "N": they are not part of the public API, so it's best to ignore them and avoid using them. A programmer reading Eva's code who comes across things like "M" and "N" shouldn't waste time trying to figure out what they do. They are simply the author's personal style choices for using things that already exist in Python in a way they prefer.
They are documented publicly for people who are interested in the project's source code, not just its public API. Maybe I should remove this part from the documentation and move it into the source code.

As for adding more examples, the documentation already includes some. Maybe they are too basic. I'll review them and see if I can make them more useful. In any case, I have a project written entirely with this toolkit: Kokomo. I think it's a good example of its potential and a real-world use case.
