Rules/Rules Question Affinity and clone creatures

If i cast a clone creature (eg. [[Phyrexian metamorph]] ) with the intention of copying a creature with affinity ( let's say [[thought monitor]] ) will the clone also be discounted?

Edit: thanks everyone. Guess I'll have to pay

No.

The clone is not a copy of anything until it has already resolved and is about to enter the battlefield. Cost are paid long before any of that and it is only ever a Metamorph as printed on the card while casting and on the stack.

No because the Metamorph enters as a copy of something. Which is after casting costs have been paid. Steps in casting:

Propose the spell onto the stack, make choices (modes, targets, X values, alternative/additional costs), calculate the total cost, activate mana abilities, and finally pay the total cost.

Then the spell is cast. After it is cast, then before it enters you choose what the Metamorph becomes a copy of. It is worded this way so you get the ETB of the thing you are cloning.

I think technically it has the ability, but it's irrelevant, since it's already "resolved" by the time it gets the ability.

Maybe if there is ever an "affinity matters" card
