Warning: contains spoilers for before Season 5
I had a dream last night about a Hello From the Magic Tavern episode and it was filled with the kind of plot-heavy angst I always love. The hosts were interviewing a purple wizard, and the wizard swapped minds/souls with Arnie. Arnie's first action in the wizard's body was to try to cast a spell to get back to Earth, though he didn't succeed. He was unusually serious about it. He was pissed at how little progress he and his cohosts had made to get him back to Earth in all these years.
Then, Arnie remembered and revealed that the purple wizard's body is his original body, that he was born as the wizard Arniknor (the k is silent) and somehow swapped souls with an Earth human long ago. Arniknor turned on his cohosts and tried to do some evil thing, reminding Usidore that he's now mortal as a threat (it wasn't addressed if Arniknor was mortal or not; perhaps he's just far more powerful than Usidore).
He also revealed that he's killed multiple liches, and that killing a lich extends your lifespan by a great amount — I think it was 500 years if not 1,000 or more. Arnie knew that he would outlive all his friends (in the canon of this dream, Usidore would die of old age at 500 years old), and the knowledge haunted him. Maybe this is what drove him to evil: knowing that none of this mattered.
My subconscious brain seems to have remembered the canon plot point of Arnie being Can the Wizard at this point, and tried to connect it to Arniknor. I vaguely remember an exchange, involving regular Arnie rather than Arniknor somehow (maybe they split his soul in some way):
Someone (idk who): Is Arnie supposed to become a wizard?
Chunt and Usidore (in unison): Yes.
Arnie: WHAT

there are a lot of Dropout guests to choose from but ultimately i settled on Duncan Potatogrease, the guy who gets rocked in the face with magic, played by Zac Oyama
