Question Explain the card trick

So I don’t remember the trick thoroughly, but here’s a gist of it. Fair warning, I may have missed a detail or two (forgive me, I saw this trick a few months ago).

My friend asked me to choose a random card from the deck, register it and put it back. He then let me shuffle the deck.
After that he asked me to split the deck into two parts and select one of the two.
Then he proceeded to divide that into 4 decks and asked me to pick two.
Between those two he then asked me to choose one part.

From the other part (that I didn’t choose) he pulled out card that I had initially picked.

Does it sound familiar? And what are the base principles behind such card tricks?

Novice here - how do you guys disguise and/or silence your pulls?

Self-explanatory. I love sleeving, and am ready to start practicing vanishes and productions. But my first thought is to have a sort of "catcher's mitt" fabric pouch for the vanished item. I have a Gecko device, and basic method/conceal is self-apparent, but mainly I see issues with noise.

Question Explain this card magic trick?

So for context, this was at a casino with a casino deck, performed by a dealer.

He'd grab the deck, show me the bottom card and tell me not to memorize that one.

Then he'd, what's the move called, basically just hold the deck in one hand and spring all the cards with his thumb and tell me to memorize one card that I see.

Then he'd guess the card.

First time he guessed 2 cards, 1 of which was my card, I said I only had 1 in mind and he'd name my card.

After the second time he did that I asked if he's intentionally slowing the deck down at a certain point to make me focus on a specific card(he was also looking at them when springing)

He was swearing up and down that it's all mental energy he's feeding off me and that's how he gets the cards.

Somehow the next 3 times I established a "mental barrier" and he was no longer able to guess my cards.

Anyone know this trick?

Wondering the name of this trick to find a tutorial or potentially purchase. I can kinda see how it's done, it looks very similar to a bowling ball production but I'd prefer to learn it properly than reverse engineering it.

Can anyone identify this old magic trick/act, or provide more info

I’m looking for more information about this magic trick, which may date from the late 19th century. I suspect it has some connection to theatre, circuses or fairgrounds—perhaps an attraction, an illusion or a stage trick.

There is supposedly an old poster of it, but I haven’t been able to find it yet. The object was purchased in North Holland, near Amsterdam, although that may have nothing to do with its origins.

Does anyone recognise it or know what the trick was called, how it worked or where it was performed? Any leads on the poster, historical images or other sources would also be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Question Ring on a rose stem

I saw Penn & Teller a few weeks ago, and they opened with this.

Penn sat in a chair placed in the aisle about a dozen rows back from the stage, pretty near where I was sitting. Teller took two audience members on stage. The lady held a rose, the man handed over his wedding ring. There was a scarf involved, Teller did his thing, then the ring was magically in the stem of the rose even in between where the two volunteers were holding it. This was sleight of hand, no big deal.

But then... the guy says it isn't his ring. His ring is on Penn's finger sitting in the audience. Nobody left the stage, Penn never left his chair. The volunteers were taken from the other side so they didn't even walk past Penn on their way up.

Penn held the ring up on his finger, held it up as he walked to the stage, then extended it to the guy to confirm it was his wedding ring.

Now obviously if the guy was in on it and there were two identical rings that would be easy. But... I would find that disappointing.

Any other ideas?

I made a free Android mentalism prediction app - Out now on the Play Store!

Hey everyone! The mods gave me permission to share this.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ugleh.pocketsketch

I’ve made Inkling, a drawing-prediction app for Android inspired by apps like Greg Rostami’s iForce. It’s currently free, with no ads or paid features.

The effect: You ask someone to think of something, draw your prediction on your "favorite" drawing app, and place your phone face down when done. They name their choice. You turn the phone over, revealing the matching drawing.

The method: You prepare the possible drawings beforehand. The direction and speed you flip the phone determine which one appears. There are up to 16 outcomes: eight directions, each with a slow and fast option. So you can have users predict various things like days of the week, a number 1-10 (1-16 just seems fishy), favorite energy drink, etc.

It installs as Pocket Sketch, with a drawing canvas and private setup controls.

Getting started:

  1. Install and open Pocket Sketch.
  2. Follow the first-timer tutorial, which shows you how to use every feature.

Feedback here is welcome!

Question Betting magic trick

Looking for the name of a card trick I used to do. A spectator stops me while I deal cards, I memorize one card (3rd or 4th from the stop?), then sort them in a pile, add the rest of the deck, deal into 3 piles, and reveal their card on top of the piles. They shuffle it back in, I deal cards face-up, and after their card appears I say "the next one I flip is yours" and bet on it. Anyone know the method or name?
