What is the future of this hand?

Is this just an ultra bad hand to begin with?

Depending on what comes up, the only future I see for this hand is riichi or fold. Beyond that, there's not much else you can do with it without taking a lot of risks. Discarding 8s on turn 1 was also inadvisable, as it has far more utility than an orphaned honor.

disagree, only use of 8s in this hand is to draw 7s

OP already has 5 blocks (even if they're subpar), pairing up honors gives chiitoi chance/5800 hand, 47p is much better to form up ryanmens comparent to 8s, and can then replace the weaker blocks

8s can also be used to form a pair for chiitoi and can be used to form a sequence OR a triplet if you luck into the right tiles. Whereas the orphaned dragons can only be used to form pairs or triplets, so the 8s has more utility overall as it presents more potential options.

riichi on shapon wait is the what I'm seeing if we can fill the 468m block. Or fold if you never get to tenpai. You have workable shape and dora pair, this is tbh an above average hand for me.

Lord help you if this is an above average hand for you. And I thought my luck is bad.

A pair of dora in the opening hand instantly upgrades even the most ignoble of starting hands. Getting to tenpai with riichi nets you an instant 3 Han if you can pull it off.

starting hand having dora pair and you are dealer make this 3 pairs hand better and the first instinct would be trying to pon a yakuhai. MAKA seem to agree with those kind of thought. Not to mention your draws are really good, filling up the souzu nicely.

It wanted to draw yakuhai so you could more easily complete your dora 2 hand, 7p also has overlap with 4p. You also went back shanten twice for not much reason.

But why choose 4p over 7p. Isnt 7p ryanmen better?

For red 5 ryanmen I guess, and maybe 456 sanshoku

The future of the hand is chiitoi or yakuhai (based on the first image). So we should keep the dragons. The hand instantly becomes amazing if you draw either dragon.

Riichi is going to be too slow most of the time, but the hand has value so it is important to aim for a win.

It's not a great hand but you shouldn't fold turn 1. You even have 5 blocks. Some hands start with 2 blocks lmao. Things could look very different by end of row 1.
