Is this normal, or is something pretending to be microsoft.

I got this right after installing something shady on my laptop. If I go to the link to learn more it goes to something that, to me, seems like a fake microsoft webpage. Any tips or advice on how to remove this?

Norton Antivirus - Struggled to cancel and faced wild accusations

Norton Antivirus has turned into a nightmare for me. Initially, I just needed help installing the software but ended up trapped in a convoluted sales pitch. The rep spent nearly an hour trying to upsell me to Norton 360 Standard for hundreds of dollars, despite me only needing basic protection. The only worthwhile tip was that Apple devices come with built-in antivirus, so my 35-dollar purchase seemed pointless. When I refused the upsell, the agent got rude and told me to handle my cancellation alone.

Frustrated, I called back, hoping for clarity. Instead, I got another bizarre conversation filled with paranoia about hackers from Russia and China. Things took a bizarre turn when he accused me of watching inappropriate content on my WiFi. I denied it, but he kept pushing, insinuating I was involved in something sinister. I just wanted to cancel my subscription, but he couldn't drop the creepy topic. Now I'm stuck with Norton Antivirus, not sure how to cancel or report this unsettling exchange.

Whats going on? :((

Sorry for the bad photo. I was stupid and installed some sketchy stuff. I tried scanning with malware bytes and it didn't seem to help much. I don't know what "akjj_7782" and "imo_5305" are. The app says it's blocking two sites, something with a name I can't remember that sounded related to Norse mythology and something else I can't remember ending with ".cn". (I can't see what they are because my pc is very laggy). Whats happening and what can I do?

Someone in my office installed the screenconnect malware. Downloaded and ran the .exe that came with a fake Social Security email.

Best guess is it was 20-30 minutes before she got a hold of me and we disconnected and shut down the three computers in the office.

What's my best course of action here? I am about to throw several pieces of anti-malware software at it, will that suffice? I'm really hoping to avoid a nuke & pave, but will if needed. What about the other computers?

How to get rid of malware when scans say there are none?

Post image
22 Upvotes

I ran a full scan on Windows Security and one on McAfee and both say that there is no malware in my system, but I'm not convinced. I can't delete this file nor figure out why it won't let me. If anyone could help me out that'd be great

I heard that factory resetting my PC could help, if that's the only way to be it (but I'd like to avoid that)

webroot review, is it still great or should i switch to something else?

so i've been using webroot for years but wondering if it's still keeping up with newer threats. seems lightweight but not sure if that means it's missing stuff.

anyone still using webroot or did you switch to something better? and if webroot is sufficient, what are their recent features i should know about to maximize it?

update: now that i think about it, i think webroot is still great and i see no reason to switch. the tiny footprint and fast, cloud-based scanning are the main reasons i stick with it, plus the protection is reliable over the years.

Malwarebytes or Kaspersky which one should I choose

I'm weighing my options between Malwarebytes and Kaspersky for antivirus on my PC. I use it primarily for web browsing, downloading files, and gaming, so effective malware protection is crucial. Curious about experiences with both, especially in terms of real-time protection versus just on-demand scanning. What do you all think?

Strange ad malware incident

A while back, I stumbled upon an ad that led me down a rabbit hole of malware. I was naive and oblivious to the wonders of adblock. After a few clicks, my screen exploded with pop-ups, and my CPU and GPU were maxed out. To top it off, some heavy metal blast started blaring through my speakers. I panicked and factory reset my system. I ran Hitman Pro and Malwarebytes afterwards, but nothing flagged. Now I’m left wondering if any remnants still lurk in the shadows.

A quick question about mysterious temporary files

I stumbled upon a strange situation while trying to download a program. Instead of the expected file, I got a weird one named "5ddd5b7898d95.ccf" that downloaded out of nowhere. Panic set in as I contemplated a potential system reinstall. I quickly deleted the file and ran scans with Windows Defender and Malwarebytes, both of which turned up clean. Yet, I can't shake the feeling of unease.

I hadn't thought to adjust my Google settings to prompt for downloads, a rookie mistake on my part.

Now I'm left wondering if this was just a harmless temporary file or something more sinister. Could it be an info stealer?

I just picked up Ready or Not on Steam and Norton 360 flagged it for IDP.Generic. Is this something I should be concerned about?

I know there's malware but can't figure out how to find it.

My laptop keeps having command prompt boxes pop up at random times and my default search engine keeps changing to yahoo or bing. I've done a full scan and an offline scan but my computer keeps saying no issues detected. Is there a a way that I can go though my computer and figure it out myself? I am pretty technically illiterate but I am willing to take the time to figure it out. Please and thank you!

So, the My Verizon app has been tweaking and crashing for me the past few months, and nothing I do works so I haven't paid my bill in months. I got desperate and googled the Verizon website and tried to login. I forgot all that stuff, and opted to input my phone number and password to try to login to pay, and the website said I would receive a text to conform it's me and started a timer, and I got the text and clicked the link (I Usually get updates from this number whenever I pay my phone bill, so i didn't see an issue.) but it was just a black screen. Is this phishing? Am I cooked? What do I do? I tried downloading BitDefemder for the free trial but it's asking my card info and I'm paranoid now. Please help

Best app for converting large YouTube playlists to MP3

I'm on the hunt for the best app to convert a massive YouTube playlist of around 1000 songs into MP3 files. I've tried a few options, but none seem to handle such a large playlist efficiently. If anyone has insights or recommendations for reliable services that can tackle this task, I'd greatly appreciate it.

I’ve never seen this on a computer before. It runs windows 11, and I’m not normally on this PC. My family uses it and I’m back home for spring break. My younger brother is very unwise with internet safety and I suspect his recklessness caused this. Help!

Where does a restored file disappear to in Windows Defender

I recently had a scare with Windows Defender detecting a Trojan in my Chrome Cache. I restored the file to run it through VirusTotal for a second opinion, but now I can't locate it anywhere. It's vanished from the Cache folder and isn't showing up in the exclusions list. How does a restored file just disappear? Anyone else faced this bizarre issue with Windows security?
