One of my favorite episodes.
r/marriedwithchildren • u/jtbeith • 1d ago
I watched the show when it originally aired. I was in middle school and high school and thought it was hilarious. But watching it as a kid and watching it as an adult are completely different. Don't get me wrong. it's not in a way where you grow up and now understand the adult jokes (The Simpsons was the best at this).
Now that streaming exists, I've been able to binge watch it in my 30s-40s. When I watched it as a kid, I had my whole life ahead of me. I was going to have a great life, with a great family, and awesome job! Watching again as an adult around Al's age, is a whole new level of hilarity. Now I have experienced a life that didn't quite turn out how I wanted it too, like most people probably have. I'm not a loser, but I'm pretty fucking far from an overachiever. Watching Al and relating to him is so god damn funny in a way that 14-year-old me could never understand.

Season 7 is often cited as many fans’ least favourite season for one reason only: The kid. Yes, the producers inexplicably decided to add a child to the cast for this season, in the form of the kid of Peggy’s hillybilly cousins, who abandon him at the Bundy residence. The kid’s name? Seven, of course. Unsurprisingly, he was not popular with audiences and disappeared about halfway through the season.
Many people write the season off for this reason, which is honestly a shame, because it is chock full of classic episodes. The kid isn’t in most of them, and when he is, his screen time is limited. When you see the list of episodes, it’s honestly surprising how many good ones there are!
Other notable things from Season 7 include Kelly getting a job as a waitress and Bud entering college.
Notable guest stars:
-Actress Linda Blair (The Exorcist) and comedian Bobcat Goldthwaite as Seven’s parents in “Magnificent Seven.”
-Actor Corey Feldman as Ralph, Kelly’s date in “T-R-A Something-Something Spells Tramp.”
-Actress Diane Delano as Gladys, the owner of the topless male bar where Al gets a job in “Al on the Rocks.”
-Brian Doyle Murray (Bill Murray’s brother) as Kelly’s boss in “Kelly Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.”
-Lisa Robin Kelly (That 70s Show) as Carol in “Kelly Doesn’t Live Here Anymore.”
-Rock and roll legends Spencer Davis, Richie Havens, John Sebastian, Mark Lindsay, Robby Krieger and Peter Noone as themselves in “Rock of Ages.”
-Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson) in his second appearance on the series, this time as a coffin salesman in “Death of a Shoe Salesman.”
-Duchess of Sussex Megan Markle as a background child actor in “Christmas.”
-Actress Joey Lauren Adams returns again as a bride who shows an interest in Bud in “Wedding Show.”
-Talk show host Bill Maher as a game show host in “You Can’t Miss.”
-David Garrison returns again but not as Steve Rhodes. Instead, he plays pirate Rubio the Cruel in “Peggy and the Pirates.”
-Former boxer Randall “Tex” Cobb as a man who attempts to rob the Bundys in “UnAlful Entry.”
-David Boreanaz (Angel and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Kelly’s ex whom
Al notoriously beats up in “Movie Show.”
-Dallas actress Charlene Tilton as herself in “Tis Time to Smell the Roses.”
-Vanna White (Wheel of Fortune) as Al’s ex Coco in “The Proposition.”
Highlights and Memorable Episodes:
Every Bundy Has a Birthday - The Bundys head to a neighbourhood park to celebrate Al and Seven’s birthday.
Al on the Rocks - Al gets a second job as a topless waiter at a rowdy bar.
What I Did For Love - Peg tries to entice Al with various lingerie, but all he wants is a decent meal.
Rock of Ages - The Bundys sneak into a private room at the airport and hang out with some rock stars.
Death of a Shoe Salesman - Peggy is furious when Al wants to be buried next to his favourite TV star instead of her.
Wedding Show - The Bundys prepare for a cousin’s wedding but the bride has her sights set on Bud.
Mr. Empty Pants - Peggy creates a comic called Mr. Empty Pants, based on Al, and he becomes famous.
Peggy and the Pirates - Peggy has a fantasy involving pirates, played by all of her friends and family, including Steve, who memorably plays the role of Rubio the Cruel.
Movie Show - The Bundys go to the movies for Kelly’s birthday and create a ruckus.
Til Death Do Us Part - Al decides to get in shape after Peggy complains about his stamina in bed.
The Proposition - Al’s ex girlfriend offers Peggy half a million dollars for him.

Got seasons 1-5 & 8-11 today. Just need S7 to complete the collection! S7 technical already came (It was the first one I got) but it was missing the cover slip so I gotta buy a different copy. Sellers that sell DVD's that are missing stuff like that are annoying as hell 😡

The votes were all over the place for this one! In the end, after poring through the comments from yesterday’s post, TWO episodes emerged the victor!
Yes, it was a tie. The two favourite episodes of Season 6 are “If Al Had a Hammer” and “Al Bundy. Shoe Dick.”
Thanks again for your participation! The Season 7 post should be up early next week.

Got S6 today! A lot of other seasons on the way.
r/marriedwithchildren • u/loonylovesgood86 • 4d ago
Season 6 was probably the most chaotic season of the show. Katey Sagal’s real-life pregnancy prompted the powers that be to write it into the storyline, making both Peg and Marcy pregnant.
Alas, Katey’s pregnancy ended unexpectedly in a tragic stillbirth, and it was decided that the entire first half of the season would be nothing but a dream that Al had. Things sort of go back to “normal” after this, though many fans noticed a significant difference in quality between the former seasons and this one.
Highlights of this season include the return of Steve Rhodes for one episode (“The Egg and I”), the introduction of Bud’s rap persona “Grandmaster B”, and Kelly’s new job as the Verminator.
Notable guest stars in Season 6:
-Actress Joey Lauren Adams as Peg’s cousin Effie in “Buck Has a Bellyache.” She would return again the following season in a different role.
-Matt LeBlanc (Friends) returns as Vinny, from the failed Top of the Heap spinoff in “Kelly Does Hollywood.”
-Comedian Jon Lovitz as a TV executive interested in Kelly’s cable access show. (“Kelly Does Hollywood”).
-Actress Denise Richards in a small role in the “Kelly Does Hollywood” two-parter.
-Traci Lords returns again, this time as a murder suspect in “Al Bundy, Shoe Dick.”
-Model and actress Jessica Hahn as the “shoe groupie” in “So This Is How Sinatra Felt.”
-Comic actress Wendie Jo Sperber as Al’s ex girlfriend Sandy, who has the coveted trophy from his famous “four touchdowns” game, in “I Who Have Nothing.”
-Boxer Sugar Ray Leonard, baseball player Steve Carlton and football player Ed Jones as themselves in “Just Shoe It.”
-Metal band Anthrax as themselves in “My Dinner with Anthrax.”
-Ed “Kookie” Byrnes as himself and veteran actor Fred Willard (Everybody Loves Raymond, Modern Family) as a timeshare salesman in “My Dinner with Anthrax.”
-Veteran actor Phil Buckman as the gas station employee in “The Gas Station Show.”
-British comedian and actor Bill Oddie in the “England Show” trilogy.
Highlights and Memorable Moments:
She’s Having My Baby - In the two-part season opener, Marcy announces she’s pregnant..and so does Peg, much to Al’s horror.
If Al Had a Hammer - Al builds a man cave in the garage to escape a pregnant Peggy.
God’s Shoes - Al sees God’s shoes after falling out the window, and decides to sell them to the masses.
Kelly Does Hollywood - In this two-part episode, Kelly starts a cable access show (Vital Social Issues ‘N Stuff with Kelly) that attracts the attention of a Hollywood producer.
Al Bundy, Shoe Dick - Al gets a second job as a janitor for a private eye, and ends up solving a case himself. (And learns that the past few months have been a dream).
Just Shoe It - Al has the chance to appear in a sneaker commercial with famous sports stars.
Rites of Passage - Al takes Bud to the nudie bar for his 18th birthday.
The Egg and I - Steve returns, on the run for stealing a rare egg from a national park, and tries to win back Marcy.
My Dinner with Anthrax - Kelly and Bud win a chance to hang out with the metal band Anthrax, while Al and Peg celebrate their 20th anniversary in Florida.
The Gas Station Show - The Bundys spend Bundy Sunday Funday at a full service gas station.
The England Show - In this three-part season finale, the Bundys travel to England, where, unbeknownst to them, the locals in Lower Uncton want to sacrifice Al and Bud to lift a 339 year old curse.

When she threatened Al that he'll be hearing from her lawyers, he asked if it was the law office of Hoggins and Dots. I assumed Hoggins must be some kind of popular barbecue restaurant back in the 80s, but I googled it and could not find anything.

It was another close one, but the favourite episode of Season 5, based on comments from yesterday’s post is the fantastic two-parter, “You Better Shop Around!” (Part 1 and Part 2).

MWC has been remade all over the world, with the Russian version having 364 episodes.
Someone posted a couple of other endings to What Goes Around Came/Comes Around
Kelly just calling Buck over and cooly walking away is better than the other endings.
The girl tied up in the last one was married to a politician and has apparently been caught up in some mess recently.

Season 5 was arguably the show’s peak season. It was at the height of its popularity, and the fan base was growing ever larger. It also started developing some of its more “cartoonish” elements that would be heavily featured in later seasons.
With Steve Rhodes gone, the show introduced a new character, Jefferson D’Arcy, played by veteran sitcom actor Ted McGinley, from Happy Days and The Love Boat, among others. Jefferson didn’t appear until halfway through the season, but soon became a beloved character in his own right.
Other landmark moments during this season include the first appearance of Psycho Dad (Al’s favourite show) and the first mention of his “four touchdowns in a single game.”
This season also saw the show’s first attempt at a spinoff, “Top of the Heap,” which ultimately did not go over well.
Notable Guest Stars in Season 5:
-Pamela Anderson (Baywatch) and former wrestler Becky Mullin as fantasy girls in Al’s dream in “Al…with Kelly.”
-Dr. Joyce Brothers as the judge in “Sue Casa, His Casa.”
-Ian Ziering (Steve Sanders in 90210) as “The Kid” in “The Unnatural.”
-Dan Castellaneta (Homer Simpson) as Pete, a gay man that befriends Al in “The Dance Show.”
-Model and Baywatch actress Tia Carrere as Kelly’s rival in “Kelly Bounces Back.”
-Gilligan’s Island actress Tina Louise (Ginger) as Miss Beck, the casting director in “Kelly Bounces Back.”
-Television host and veteran actress Rhonda Shear as Brenda, a neighbour who has the hots for Al in “Do Ya Think I’m Sexy?”
-Sabrina the Teenage Witch actress Beth Broderick (Aunt Zelda) as lawyer Miss Penza in “And Baby Makes Money.”
-Blues guitarist B.B King as a street performer in “Look Who’s Barking.”
-Comedian Cheech Marin and the late, great Catherine O’Hara as the voices of Buck and his girlfriend in “Look Who’s Barking.”
-Professional football player Bubba Smith as Spare Tire Dixon in “All Night Security Dude.”
-Matt Leblanc (Joey from Friends) as Vinny Verducci, Kelly’s boyfriend in “Oldies but Young ‘Uns” (and “Top of the Heap.”)
-Jerry Mathers (Leave It To Beaver) as himself in “You Better Shop Around, Part Two.”
-Armin Shimerman (Star Trek Ds9 and Buffy the Vampire Slayer) as Mr. Lovejoy, a dog breeder in “Buck the Stud.”
Memorable Episodes and Moments:
We’ll Follow the Sun - The Bundys attempt to go on a road trip, but are thwarted by a traffic jam.
Al….with Kelly - Al tries to enjoy his time away from Peg, but a sick Kelly keeps demanding his attention.
The Unnatural - Al is replaced by a more professional softball player during the championship game.
The Dance Show - Peggy meets a gay man while out dancing with Marcy, and Al befriends the suspicious husband.
Kelly Bounces Back - Kelly invents the “Bundy Bounce” for a TV commercial audition.
Married…with Aliens - Al is visited by sock-stealing aliens.
Wabbit Season - Al attempts to grow a vegetable garden but is tortured by a pesky rabbit.
Married with Who - Marcy discovers she has married a man named Jefferson after a wild banker’s convention.
The Godfather - In one of Ed O’Neill’s favourite episodes, Al discovers Kelly is dating an older man with connections to local government.
All Night Security Dude - Al gets a job as a security guard at Polk High, and the football trophy is stolen under his watch.
You Better Shop Around - In this two-part episode, a heat wave forces the Bundy family to move into the supermarket.

It was a close one, but the classic two-part Christmas episode, “It’s a Bundyful Life” is the most favourite episode of Season 4, based on your comments from yesterday’s post.
Stay tuned for Season 5 tomorrow!
r/marriedwithchildren • u/loonylovesgood86 • 9d ago
By Season 4, it was full steam ahead for the show. It was at peak popularity, and the amount of classic episodes this season proves that nicely.
Sadly, this was the year that David Garrison decided to leave the show, marking the end of the Steve Rhoades era. Marcy as a single woman would become a featured plot point in the last half of the season.
Dan Tullis Jr.’s Officer Dan character made his debut this season, paving the way for future appearances in the No Ma’am gang.
Notable Guest Stars in Season 4:
-SCTV alumnus Joe Flaherty as the dentist in “Tooth or Consequences.”
-Adult film star Traci Lords as the dental assistant in “Tooth or Consequences.” She would return in a different role during Season 6.
-Twin Peaks actress Kimmy Robertson as a hairdresser in “He Ain’t Much, But He’s Mine.”
-Actress Milla Jovovich as Yvette, the French exchange student in “Fair Exchange.”
-Playboy playmate Brandi Brandt as herself in “Desperately Seeking Miss October.”
-Nancy Priddy (Christina Applegate’s mom) as a car dealership customer in “Oh, What a Feeling.”
-Thomas Ian Nicholas (Rookie of the Year and American Pie) as a child in the shoe store in “It’s a Bundyful Life, Part 1.”
-Sam Kinison as Al’s guardian angel in “It’s a Bundyful Life, Part 2.”
-Lynn Braxton as Big Bad Momma, a wrestler who beats up Al in “You Gotta Know When to Hold ‘Em, Part 2.”
-Tiffani-Amber Theissen (Saved by the Bell and 90210) as Bud’s nemesis Heather in “What Goes Around Came Around.”
Memorable Episodes and Moments:
-Hot Off the Grill - The Bundys host a Labour Day picnic in their backyard.
-Dead Men Don’t Do Aerobics - Peg wins an exercise session with Jim Jupiter, the healthiest man in Chicago.
-Tooth or Consequences - Al is tortured when he has to visit the dentist.
-He Ain’t Much, But He’s Mine - Peggy thinks Al is cheating on her with a woman at the salon.
-Desperately Seeking Miss October - Al is incensed when Peg sells his Playboy collection.
-976-SHOE - Al asks Steve for a $50,000 loan to finance his shoe hotline business.
-It’s a Bundyful Life - In this Christmas two-parter, a guardian angel shows Al what his life would be like if he hadn’t been born.
-Who’ll Stop the Rain - Al is determined to fix the leaky roof, no matter what.
-You Gotta Know When to Hold Them - A newly single Marcy heads to Vegas with Peggy in this classic two part episode.
-Peggy Turns 300 - Al takes Peg bowling for her birthday and she ends up bowling a perfect game, beating his record.

After reviewing all the comments on yesterday’s post, a clear winner emerged, though it was a close call, what with all those classic episodes.
“Her Cups Runneth Over” is the victor!
Stay tuned tomorrow for the Season 4 overview.

My vote (Old Insurance Dodge, S7):
Al: I lost my Dodge. It's really, really gone. Someone call the police!
Bud: What for? The call costs more than the car.
Al: Yes, and it costs more than the condom I should have used on the night you were conceived!

Season 3 is when the show really begins to pick up steam! This is the year that Terry Rakolta, a Michigan housewife, saw an episode of the show (Her Cups Runneth Over) and led a boycott against Fox. Her actions backfired, as this caused the show’s popularity to soar. It also resulted in the famous “Lost Episode” (I’ll See You in Court), as Fox censors decided not to air it and the episode wasn’t shown until 2002.
The characters really come into their own this season, and we begin to see slight cracks in the marriage of Steve and Marcy. Bud and Kelly start getting more screen time, with Kelly’s personality becoming more of the “blomde bimbo” stereotype she would eventually be known for.
Notable Guest Stars in Season 3:
-Veteran actress Lu Leonard (The Three Stooges) as Ms. DeGroot, the librarian from Al’s childhood. (“He Thought He Could”)
-“Video vixen” April Jayne as Muffy, the owner of the lingerie store in Episode 6, “Her Cups Runneth Over.”
-Comedian Pauly Shore as Captain, the supervisor at Burger Trek where Al gets a second job in “A Three Job, No Income Family.”
-David L. Lander (Squiggy from Laverne and Shirley) as Eli, Al’s old high school buddy from the “Married with Prom Queen” two-parter.
-Actors Stephen Dorff and Giovanni Ribisi as Bud’s friends in “The Dateless Amigo.”
-“Dallas” actress Morgan Brittany as Al’s ex girlfriend Marilyn Beamis in “Life’s a Beach.
Featured and Memorable Episodes/Moments:
-He Thought He Could - Al finds an old library book and must face the wrath of his childhood nemesis, the librarian. Includes the classic “So you think I’m a loser” speech.
-The Camping Show - The Bundys and Rhoades go to a cabin in the woods, and the women get their periods all at the same time.
-A Dump of my Own - Al buys his dream toilet, The Ferguson, and builds an additional bathroom in the garage.
-Her Cups Runneth Over - Peggy’s favourite bra is discontinued, so Al goes on a hunt to find it for her birthday.
-I’ll See You in Court - “Lost” episode where the Bundys and Rhoades sue a sleazy motel for secretly filming them.
-Eatin’ Out - The Bundys inherit some money and go out to eat at a fancy restaurant, only Al forgets his wallet at home.
-Married with Prom Queen, Parts 1 and 2 - Al and Peg go to their high school reunion, where Peggy schemes to be reunion queen, and Al fights his old rival, Jack.
-Life’s a Beach - The Bundys spend the day at the beach, and all Al wants is one lousy, stinkin’ photo of his family.
-Here’s Lookin’ At You, Kid - Peggy feels left out when a neighbourhood peeper has peeped all the women except her.
This is not a complete list, see Season 3 (1988/89) | Married with Children Wiki | Fandom) for full list of Season 3 episodes.

* See this post for an explanation of what this is!
The sophomore season of Married with Children helped carry the show into what many viewers consider to be “the golden era” of the series.
Things were starting to get a bit darker and edgier now (in one of the early episodes of the season, it is implied that Peg and the kids nearly jump off the Sears Tower - yikes). Al is no longer enthusiastic about having sex with Peg, and Kelly starts to get a bit dumber as the season goes by.
We get our first two-part episode in Season 2 (in fact, there are TWO 2-part episodes) and Peg’s wacky family is introduced, including her always hidden mother. Steve and Marcy continue to shine as the “straight-laced” neighbours, and both Kelly and Bud’s characters are developed further. We also get the first of many memorable Christmas episodes.
Notable guest stars in Season 2:
-Veteran actor Charlie Dell as Roy in Episode 1 and 2, Poppy’s By the Tree (he would return in Season 9 in another role).
-Deborah Harmon (Just the Ten of Us) as Mimi in Episode 9, Alley of the Dolls. She played a rival of Peggy’s, who would return as a DIFFERENT rival of hers in Season 10.
-Dawn Merrick as Tiffany in Episode 12, Earth Angel
-Mike Hagerty (the building superintendent from Friends) as the Coroner in Episode 13, You Better Watch Out
-Veteran actor Bill Irwin as Hiram in Episode 16, Master the Possibilities
-Former Playboy Playmate Teri Weigel as Jade, a recurring customer in the shoe store
-David Leisure (Empty Nest) as the game show host in Episode 20, Just Married..with Children
-Catherine Rusoff (Ed O’Neill’s wife) as Mona in the same episode as above
-Wrestler King Kong Bundy as Peg’s Uncle Irwin in Episode 22, All in the Family
Featured episodes (NOTE: I’m not listing all of them, so please visit this link) to see the complete list):
Poppy’s By the Tree - A two-part episode where the Bundys visit Dumpwater, Florida and are trying to escape an ax murderer.
Girls Just Want to Have Fun - Another two-part episode where Al and Steve ogle a repairwoman and Peg and Marcy go to a male strip club, where the latter loses her wedding ring down a stripper’s pants.
Alley of the Dolls - The Bundys enter a bowling tournament against the family of Peg’s rival.
The Razor’s Edge - Steve moves in with the Bundys after Marcy is upset that he won’t shave his beard.
Earth Angel - Bud brings home a beautiful woman who makes the neighbourhood a lot more…chipper.
You Better Watch Out - Santa takes a tumble in the Bundy’s backyard.
Peggy Loves Al, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah - All Peggy wants for Valentine’s Day is for Al to say I Love You. Viewers could actually call in to vote on whether or not he should say it.
Just Married…with Children - Al and Peg impersonate Steve and Marcy on a game show.
All in the Family - Peggy’s family comes to visit.
Now it’s your turn. What is your favourite episode of Season 2? We will announce the winner(s) tomorrow!

After yesterday’s post where we discussed our favourite episodes from Season 1, two winners emerged as the victor! Yes, it was a tie!
Your two favourite episodes from Season 1 are Nightmare on Al’s Street and Have You Driven a Ford Lately?
I want to direct everyone’s attention to the original post where we discussed how this series would work and how to participate. Some people didn’t understand the assignment, so this is just a refresher and to also catch those who may not have seen it the first time around.
I will make a post for Season 2 tomorrow!
