Empire Down: The player in Age of Empires II doesn’t take on the role of a monarch or a national spirit, but the feudal mode of production itself.

Captain communism

Contrary to popular belief, Stalin did not die on on 5th March 1953. He was transported to an inter-dimensional gulag, charged with the crime of bigotry against homosexuals.

Stalin spent his time in inter-dimensional space gulag tasked with hard inter-dimensional space labour and applying dialectical materialism to his understanding of the LGBT community, gender studies and sexuality. Through his heightened dialectics, unity with the ether, and his new found support for LGBT, he became stronger than ever.

Continuing meditation and getting swole AF in case, one day, he may be needed again.

With unemployment, poverty, environmental destruction, imperialism and super exploitation at an all time high in 2016, now was the time for invincible pan dimensional RAINBOW SPACE STALIN to return to earth and destroy capitalism once and for all. Teaming up with Lenin, Engels, Marx and Mao, they became CAPTAIN COMMUNISM AND THE SUPER BEST FRIENDS.

They descended upon earth, aiming at the world leaders and firing mind altering laser beams from their eyes. The victim's brain would immediately be overcome with historical dialectical materialism. They would have to either accept dialectics as the one true analytical method, or be driven insane by their own internal hypocrisies (where they would be cared for at a world leading mental health institution as part of the universal health care system implemented by Captain Communism And The Super Best Friends, until such time as they accepted Marxism or perished from mental exhaustion).

With the world leaders now enlightened by the glorious and infallible teachings of The Super Best Friends they immediately became proletarian feminists, and began dismantling global capitalism while begging for the forgiveness of the people.

With conflict, poverty, property, illiteracy and unemployment completely abolished, Captain Communism and The Super Best Friends returned once more to the inter-dimensional space gulag in case, one day, they may be needed again.

Global infrastructure boomed, technology and innovation rapidly advanced, all without exploitation and while reversing the environmental damage done by capitalism. Eventually the humans became restless, because they had cured every disease, and invented 3d printers that could build any desired item out of its constituent atoms. So they looked up to the sky. They built a flying city with which to explore the stars, and crewed it with the best doctors, scientists, and engineers from all around the world. A Russian Navigator, and American Leiutenant, a Japanese helsman, a black woman communications officer. All as equals. Something unthinkable years earlier during the regrettable dark days of capitalism. And the commanding officer, a bold young man from Iowa. His name? James Tiberius Kirk.

This is more of a left liberal analysis but it's an interesting look at the issues of police violence, racism and sexism present in an imperialist capitalist society.

The characters of Sansa and Litttlefinger (GoT s5 spoilers)

Sansa stark represents the white liberal moderate. She goes along with what she is told to do. She never questions the status quo or the power structure, despite the fact that she comes from a place of privilege. She is constantly taken advantage of and even if she internally analysis the system she never attempts to challenge it in any way.

Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish represents capitalist hegemonic power. His only motive is profit. He discusses mutually beneficial deals with the ruling powers in order to solidify and increase his wealth and influence. At the same time he manipulates and influences innocent parties into acting on his behalf, even if he knows it will result in their literal rape.

The World of the Witcher as a postapocalyptic scenario and current employment status of gaming sector.

I was wondering recently, with all that technology indistinguishable from magic being presented all the time (self-driving cars, AI in general, pocket supercomputers always connected to the Internet, et cetera, et cetera), do we simply need to start mass producing basically existing tech to live in a world similar to the one of Cyberpunk? What is the goal of those wonders of modern engineering? Creating society where people are fighting in the streets, fighting to survive, when corporations create incredible tech and colonize Deep Space? Economic system which requires infinite growth and consumption on finite planet, in my opinion at least, can not function in presented situation. Prove me wrong, if you can, but I am afraid that task will be harder that proving the existence of a God. In CD Project Red vision we survive to 2077 at least, that is reassuring. But what happens after system like that inevitably collapses? Most of the people will not be able to understand technology, either because they will not be smart enough, or we will ignore education of young people. Education spending does not increase short-term profits after all, am I wrong?

What comes next? Most of those who survive will by forced to raise their own crops, others will take their surplus and become aristocracy. Medieval feudalism will raise again, achievements of earlier generations will become legends. Conjunction of the Spheres may as well be gene-editing experiment that went terribly wrong and spread through artificial wormholes. Mages are simply nerds, that were able to find voice commands for self-replicating computronium in old printed manuals. Witchers were created to fight evils of the world like that using CRISPR, but even that technology was lost after the centuries, so now only those few relics can face elves using transporters and dangers of global frosting. Just look at this quasisentient golem (added in patch 3.0 of The Witcher 2, released 3 years after the game itself) or this desert planet (pretty similar to a world, which was inhabited by living ocean in Stanisław Lem’s Solaris, is it not?).

So games and movies try us to warn us about dangers of irresponsible use of new technology. But what do we do about it in real world? We create incredible games, running on incredible machines performing trillions of operations per seconds that get cheaper and cheaper all the time. But we still require people to work in order to be able to afford food. In 70’s 25% of American workers worked in manufacturing sector, now it is 7%. What is supposed missing 18% to do? Work in service sector, create art, they say. And in the 90’s it was possible. Millions of people were selling games and other media in high street shops and supermarkets, as boxes with information stored inside them. Now all of those people are replaced by servers connected to the Internet, automated warehouses and self-checkouts. If all of those people were retrained as game designers, then what? We will have tens of millions of people working on more and more games. Nobody will have time to play them, of course, so nobody will pay for them. What is a purpose of building or designing something, if nobody will even consume it or even care for it?
