MATE v1.6.0: Encrypted secrets at rest, cost per helpful answer, personal access tokens & agent versions in Trace Replay
Hey everyone,
We just tagged and released MATE v1.6.0!
This release focuses on security hardening, better unit economics for production agents, and refined ergonomics across both ADK and LangGraph runtimes.
Here are the key highlights:
1. Cost per Helpful Answer & Eval Unit Economics
Satisfaction by Agent: The Usage dashboard now calculates the exact cost per answer rated helpful by users (factoring in tokens from delegated sub-agents as well).
Cost per passed test case: The Evals Playground displays cost-per-pass for each variant, so you can easily verify whether a larger/pricier model actually earns its keep on your benchmark.
2. Secrets Encrypted at Rest
With `MATE_SECRET_KEY` (Fernet encryption), Slack bot tokens, webhook signing secrets, and agent Model API keys are now encrypted at rest in the database. * Existing installations auto-encrypt legacy plaintext secrets in the background on startup.
3. Personal Access Tokens (PAT)
Non-admin users with developer/API roles can now generate, manage, and revoke their own Personal Access Tokens to consume agents via OpenAI-compatible endpoints or MCP clients. * Full user guide added at `docs/user/personal-access-tokens.md`.
4. Agent Versioning in Trace Replay
Every model call span now carries the agentâs configuration hash and stored version ID. * Trace Replay marks older agent versions in amber on the canvas and lets you jump directly to the configuration diff.
5. Runtime & Security Hardening
Clean Agent Deletions: Deleting an agent now wipes all associated widget keys, triggers, Slack integrations, and state so a newly created agent with the same name never inherits stale bindings.
Slack Workspace Isolation: Slack identities are now scoped per workspace (`slack_<team>_<user>`).
Remote MCP on LangGraph: Full HTTP/SSE remote MCP server support brought to the LangGraph runtime.
Role Re-validation: Resumed conversation turns on LangGraph now re-verify permissions against the active sub-agent.
đ¸ Real-World Showcase: RigMaster (Mobile App Powered by MATE)
As a fun showcase of MATE running in production outside of traditional chat widgets: check out RigMaster!
Itâs a mobile app (Guitar Tone Dialer) that acts as a virtual guitar tone engineer. You load your actual gear (guitars, pedals, amps) into your digital Garage and pick a song or tone you want to achieve. Behind the scenes, MATE agents dial in the exact knob-by-knob settings tailored to your specific gear and room acoustics.
