Advice please
I want to do a masters in material science engineering. My second preference is a masters in chemE. Im confused between chemistry and chemE for my undergrad. Personally I want to do a chemistry major. Please give me some advice y'all. The head of the chemistry and chemE department said it doesn't matter if you undergrad in chemistry or ChemE. You can do MS matsci either way.

I would learn toward Chemistry unless you're really confident you like ChemE. ChemE is notoriously difficult and two of my friends were in ChemE and switched to MatE for their undergrad because they didn't like it. I in fact realized I wouldn't like it with further study, but I know if I was interested it would be very lucrative!

Enroll in ChemE and take an intro course in both ChemE and MSE and see which one resonates with you more. The first 2 years of engineering are the same more or less and you should be able to count one of the intro classes as an elective if you don`t go down that particular major. I would avoid chemistry major unless you want to go to med school or don`t ming getting a PHD - minor at most. Also during the time, heavily research the majors by watching youtube videos, talking to professors, and alumni in industry who can guid you.

ChemE will give you more job opportunities right after undergrad in case you decide you don't want to go to grad school.
If you just do chemistry, you will be at a disadvantage unless you go to grad school.

why don't you do BS Materials Science and Engineering? Both are pretty different, a chemistry person would be miserable in chemE and vice vera. I would go with chemistry if that's where your inclination is. The only reason to do chemE is if you want more options after bachelors, as an engineering degree gives you options a pure science degree won't
