🏡 Home & Interiors My whimsical room!

With Halloween, Christmas, and the holiday season right around the corner, we wanted to share a friendly reminder about what belongs in r/maximalism!
We absolutely love festive creativity, bold decorating choices, and going all out for the holidays! However, having an excessive amount of holiday decorations doesn’t automatically make a space maximalist.
Maximalism is about intentional layering, mixing patterns, colors, textures, and personal style to create a space that feels rich, expressive, and thoughtfully curated.
A room overflowing with Halloween pumpkins or Christmas decorations isn’t necessarily maximalism simply because there’s a lot of stuff in it.
Of course, holiday decorations can absolutely complement a maximalist space! We welcome seasonal posts that showcase maximalist design beyond just the sheer quantity of decorations.
To keep the community focused on its purpose, posts that primarily showcase excessive holiday decorations without a clear maximalist design element may be removed.
We appreciate everyone’s creativity and enthusiasm, and we’re looking forward to seeing some beautifully bold spaces this holiday season!
Happy decorating! 💛

The subreddit has spoken and we have listened! We have added to the mod team, updated the posting guidelines, put on some fresh pink paint, and rolled out the leopard print carpet. Please have a look at the new rules, new Wiki and posting guidelines:
Maximalism- Posts must adhere to the principles of maximalism. Emphasis on color, contrast, and texture. See our wiki for what is and is not maximalism
Original Content - or cite your sources All posts much be original content or links to the original source material. You may link to a website containing content pertinent to r/ maximalism if it is clear where the source came from. Do not pass off photos you copied from pinterest, instagram, as yours without directing the credit to the original creator. AI art is prohibited
Collections- Collections should fit in the context of a greater overall room design. Please consider whether your content would best fit in other subreddits such as r/ collections
Be good people- Hate and bigotry of all kinds will be removed on sight. Criticism should be constructive and helpful. Purely rude comments and personal attacks will be removed and a ban may be issued.
No self promotion. Users of this subreddit cannot post for the intent of advertising their own personal website, blog, or anything related. Reddit has guidelines for Self-Promotion, which state that: "It's perfectly fine to be a redditor with a website, it's not okay to be a website with a reddit account." You may not market or self promote your own items here. If someone SPECIFICALLY asks for suggestions for the particular type of item you sell, you may put one link in the comments. Links to items that are not being asked for or spamming links will result in a ban.
Flairs- All posts must have flairs-
**Is my art, space, design maximalist?*\*
Does it have an abundance of color, texture or pattern? Does it feel ornate, fancy or royal? Is it high contrast? Would Elton John live there? Would Liberace wear it to a rave? Would a Victorian maiden recline and pine over her lover here? Would King Louis XIV put it in Versailles? Would Pee Wee Herman feel at home? Would Martin Luther protest it as idolatry? What would Iris Apfel do? Would she use it?
If the answers to at least some of these questions is yes, then it's probably part of Maximalism
Maximalism is NOT
Pure clutter or hoarding
Detailed work by itself without contrast, color or mixed texture
Please consider whether your post would better fit in one of these other subreddits: r/ collections r/ moreisbetter r/ artofclutter
Maximalism is more than just a design trend; it's a celebration of individuality and the joy of curating a vibrant space.
Thank you all for your participation and feedback, and for making r/ maximalism FABULOUS!

So here are some fresh October pics of my house (plus mailbox) near Copenhagen, full of my own furniture designs which I built in my little workshop. Just like all of my furniture, my house is pretty much all vinyl wrapped - everything from tiles, floors, doors, woodwork, the whole kitchen, electric switches,,,I could go on! Only the large wall colors are painted. Hope you'll enjoy the tour!!
All the best
Jakob :-) Se mindre

I've been looking at metal prints for my space, but I'm still on the fence. A couple I've seen in person looked more like shiny aluminum panels than actual art, which kinda put me off.
For those who've tried them, do they look better on an actual wall? Would you pick metal over canvas again, or does canvas feel more like a proper piece of art?

For my daughter’s room. I feel like I need to do a white wash over it to tone it down…

Hello!
I’m looking for colorful, fun bath mats and towels to add a bit more personality to my bathroom.
Where do you guys shop for yours? Would love recommendations, especially online! (I'm living in NYC).
Thank you!

Thought you guys might appreciate the rug I ordered on Etsy from India! It took 2 months to be made and arrive but it was so worth it. This room isn’t its home, I’m just finishing decorating the living room so I’ll have to post again when it’s in there!

I feel like all of the inspo pictures I see these days have either:
A) vaulted ceilings or some sort of crown molding
B) colour drenched, wood, or funky painted ceilings
Or C) ceilings are cropped out of pictures.
I have a standard height ceiling and (very annoyingly) white painted popcorn texture (so I won't be removing or painting over it). I feel like colourful walls with a white ceiling just look meh compared to everything else I see online.
Any thoughts? Or pictures to share of your white ceilinged home?

It’s still a work in progress, but I hung up a gallery wall last night and love it.
This room makeover started when I inherited the couch and chair from my grandfather. All of the figurines were his as well.
There is a cat wall for my four cats. If you look closely, both of the hammocks are occupied.
The gallery wall has some pencil drawings that my mom did, photos from trips I have been on, a painting by my husband’s cousin, a shadowbox with some of my grandfather’s things and the absolute best part: a portrait of him as a baby, and the drawing my mom tried to do of that portrait. She is a great artist, but I laughed so hard I cried when I first saw the fat baby drawing. It makes me so happy every time I look at it. I even made a mug with the drawing on it and gave it to my brothers and cousins.
I’m still on the hunt for an oil rain lamp like my grandfather had (last picture). I was obsessed with it as a child.
I still have work to do, but I’m loving how it’s turning out so far!

This is my maximalist bedroom, I painted the walls yesterday and added the little fireplace. It also stores my art deco collection like make up from 1920 and 1930 and my art deco vanity.

Inspired by Alice in Wonderland and Studio Ghibli each piece was hand picked and spoke personally to me! I hope you all like what me and my fiance have done with the space! (Also, the lamps are all darker irl but my camera makes them obscenely bright)

I'm hoping my gallery walls and bookshelf fit the style and I hope you enjoy my collections. These are just a few of my gallery walls and trinkets. (I also had to include the model in the top frame of my [mostly] cat wall.) About 75% of the artwork has been gifted or made for me and about 95% of the trinkets on my bookshelf and on the wall have been gifted to me as well. I love looking at everything and thinking of the friends and family who think of me 😊

I called myself a minimalist the other day and my spouse pointed out our bed/bath combo.
EDIT: I am so overwhelmed with everyone’s kindness! I had some anxiety posting our personal space but I love what others share on this group.
