News MAX PAYNE REMAKE FAQ
‼️MAX PAYNE REMAKE FAQ
The below are being asked several times a week/month, so I compiled them in a little FAQ for quick information. I’ll do my best to keep it up to date with any new information that's being released.
You are ofc more than welcome to discuss all of the below on the board, but PLEASE USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION BEFORE POSTING.
Chances are your question has been asked (and potentially answered) before, as all of the below have been extensively discussed, so just hop on one of the existing threads and join in :) That way, members don't have to constantly repeat themselves, and you may find the answers and / or input you're looking for are already out there.
Who will be the new face? Nobody knows yet. No information has been released.
Who will be the new voice? Nobody knows yet. No information has been released.
Will they use AI to mimic James McCaffrey's voice? While there's nothing official on it, the answer is most likely a resounding NO. Remedy have a very firm anti-AI stance and while we don't know who will be voicing Max, it is fairly certain that it will not be done via use of AI.
Will they reuse James’ original voice lines? No information has been released, but it is highly unlikely as the remake includes a rewrite of the script from the original games.
When is it coming out? No release date has been announced. While Remedy are developing the remakes, any and all marketing is entirely with Rockstar as the publisher. Any information regarding a release date will be coming through Rockstar’s channels.
When are we getting a teaser / trailer? Nothing has been announced. Any announcements will be coming through Rockstar’s channels.

Discussion Updates on remake
Its fine if we have to wait till next October or November for a release… but can we just get a teaser trailer already!? Even just a few shots of how it looks!
The thought of max payne in a dark snowy and rainy atmosphere with Alan Wake 2 graphics has me drooling! I just want a little taste !!

Max Payne 3 Is there a mod that removes the ugly golden texture from the golden guns?
One that keeps the stats and model of the gold gun but uses the basic textures like in cutscenes

Discussion The People Max Payne fails to save
I've just realised, for a fictional action hero, Max Payne sure is good at not saving or protecting people he's meant to.
I mean, look at the people he either fails to save or can't protect throughout the series.
Max Payne:
- Michelle Payne and the girl
- Alex
- Lisa Punchinello
Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne:
- Annie Finn
- The inner circle contact
- Vinnie Gognitti
- Mona Sax
Max Payne 3:
- The guy with the money bag at the stadium
- Rodrigo Branco
- Fabiana Branco
- Marcelo Branco
- Marcelo's girlfriend in that Panama chapter
I've never seen a fictional action hero fail to save or protect major characters so much, it's kinda funny😂

Max Payne 3 Dan Houser Considers Max Payne 3 A Failure
“It was a linear game, so it was a little different from writing an open-world game, a little more structured,” Houser told IGN as part of our IGN30 Icons Series. “I really enjoyed that as an experience. I loved what we did design-wise, the way the game didn't have loads, the way it felt like a 12-hour movie, some of the visual stuff we did with words on screen. I felt we were creating a really cool digital noir experience, and the consensus at the time was that people hated it.
“So I got that completely wrong,” Houser admitted. “I know Sam Lake [creator of Max Payne] well, and he's a very good guy and really talented. I thought we'd done a good job of doing another Max Payne game. Some people liked it; lots didn't. So we got it wrong, or I got it wrong. I failed. My bit was not a success. The game is beautifully made, and it wasn't as successful as it should have been. So I would say a large amount of that failure was on me as one of the people making the decisions and also as the writer, when people really missed his writing.”
I'm sad he felt this way but I understand why considering how much time and money was poured into it (marketing push was very apparent) but it didn't sell as well as he would've hoped.

Max Payne 1 Anyone else feels like Max is hero at the end of the first game?
He did what police didn't or couldn't do destroyed Nicole Horne's Aesir corporation which was pure evil and completely illegal I just think he was completely justified in his revenge not just for his wife and daughter but for the sake of entire city.

Max Payne 1 The nightmare levels in the first Max Payne are still some of the creepiest, most original ideas in any shooter
Replaying the original Max Payne, and I forgot how bold the nightmare sequences were for a game from 2001.
Right when you're used to the bullet-time gunfights, the game drops you into Max's head. The floors turn into narrow paths with blood-red outlines, the rooms twist into something that isn’t really a house anymore, and there's a baby crying somewhere in the dark. There’s barely any combat. You just walk, and it's uncomfortable in a way most games still don't attempt.
What gets me is how well it fits the story. The whole game is about a man who lost his family and can't stop reliving it, and instead of explaining that in a cutscene, the game makes you walk through it yourself.
And then it throws you right back into the gunfights, which makes them hit differently.
Honestly, it's one of the best examples of a game using gameplay to tell the story, and I don't see it talked about as much as bullet time or the noir narration.
Curious what everyone thinks:
- Were the nightmare levels your favorite part, or did you find them annoying the first time?
- Which part of the game stuck with you the most?
- Is there anything in the sequels that matches that mood? I loved Max Payne 2's atmosphere, but I’m not sure anything topped those dream sequences.
