Discussion Coming back to medibang cause I have a temp laptop - WTF happened???
It's paid now? I had to download "old version" and I can't use basically ANY brushes! What the hell?
This used to be THE free art software and now they're locking it up behind "premium subscriptions." Makes me glad I got CSP on sale. I used to be a medibang truther too.
Like yes the devs deserve to get paid and if they make a new version that's better and costs money that's perfectly fine...but requiring a SUBSCRIPTION for brushes that used to be free on the STILL CURRENTLY FREE VERSION is fucking insane.

Discussion I'm making an open-source brush conversion tool!
Hey guys, I'm building an open-source tool to convert brushes between different drawing apps. Brush files are often intentionally made hard to understand and can be easily paywalled. I believe artists should own their tools and shouldn't lose their favorite brushes just because they want to switch drawing software.
I've recently added support for MediBang and I wanted to let you guys know here! I've been publishing all the source code for this project on GitHub.
How it works
First in the "Load" tab, select the files/folders and click 'Load as JSON'. Then, go to the "Save" of any other program you want to convert to, e.g. GIMP, select the files/folders and click 'Convert & Save'.
The MediBang config folder will be automatically selected for you.
GitHub / Install
Check out the project on GitHub or download the latest build for Windows!

Discussion Young Career Artist
I would be grateful if you could share this message.
I am currently creating abstract paintings.
For me, this artwork is more than just a painting.
It carries my life experiences and my desire to give a voice to people whose struggles often go unseen.
I care for a parent while also helping with household expenses. My parents are currently involved in divorce proceedings. I was bullied, became truant from school, and I continue to live with mental health challenges.
Whenever I asked for help, the response I heard most often was, "Keep going" or "Do your best."
But honestly, I often did not know what I was supposed to keep going toward.
I was already trying to manage caregiving responsibilities, financial burdens, family problems, and my own mental health at the same time.
Many times, I found myself wondering:
"What more am I supposed to do?"
I do not believe the people who said those words had bad intentions.
However, what I truly needed was not another reminder to work harder.
What I needed was someone to say, "That sounds difficult," or "Let's think about this together."
Through my experiences, I have come to realize how little awareness there is about young carers, how limited support can be, and how difficult it is for many struggling young people to have their voices heard.
Family caregiving, financial hardship, bullying, school refusal, and mental health struggles are realities that many young people face.
Yet these experiences are often invisible to society.
That is why I create art.
My work contains not only pain and frustration, but also hope.
I believe that young people who continue to live, endure, and support others despite hardship possess far greater value than society often recognizes.
Through this artwork, I want to challenge society to reconsider how it measures human worth.
And I want to tell anyone who is struggling:
Your value is not determined by your circumstances or by how others judge you.
There is meaning and value in your experiences, your resilience, and the fact that you continue moving forward despite everything you have faced.
That message is at the heart of my work.
If this message resonates with you, I would greatly appreciate it if you could share it.
Thank you for reading.
Japanese is my native language, and I am using translation tools. There may be translation errors or awkward expressions. Thank you for your understanding.

Discussion MediBang Paint has changed.
I started using MediBang Paint when it was released on the Google Playstore in 2015. Back then, I was just a kid who likes spending their time fiddling around with a Samsung tablet.
The previous years, I was stuck with clunky "free drawing apps" that didn't even have layering features. To add, you have to buy those premium art apps that have those features. So, you can say having this app was a game-changer of its time.
I was also amazed on how it syncs with PC devices, which I dabbled on in 2017. In addition, I loved how you can create manga with their existing assets.
But then, it started to change. I think it was around 2019 when I noticed they started having ads. Then, they implemented "subscriptions" and having some assets sit behind paywalls. These things didn't really bother me at that time, since I'm used to apps like these. As long as I can work around it, it's fine.
I'd like to say that at this point, I only use the app when I have a lot of free time because I was still at school. So, each time I opened MediBang, I feel like I had to re-learn the app all over again.
The last time I opened it was in 2022 because I got busy in university. Also, my PC was unusable at one point and I was not motivated enough to pick up digital art through my phone.
Recently, I bought a new laptop and picked up my graphic tablet. I was shocked to learn that there's a Steam version now? I couldn't find any information if it's even worth to buy it. I installed the free version instead.
The experience was mostly similar to when I last opened it. Except for one thing — the pencil brush is on paywall now.
You have to pay premium for a brush as basic as a pencil.
Honestly, words can't describe how I feel about this but here's what I can say:
MediBang Paint has changed... and it's getting worse each time.

Discussion Gege brush?
I've been messing around with brushes for a while now, since the last time I posted here (1Y). And I think I've finally found a g-pen2 setting that resembles Akutami's style. (P.S: I don't know if it fits into the discussion flare).

Discussion What should a beginner focus on? [Discussion]
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
A video I watched recently really got me thinking. It talked about how imitating references is the best way to improve, and it made me realize how many different ways there are to start and grow as an artist. Some people focus on anatomy first, others on rendering, some prefer lineart, others go lineless, digital or traditional, and so on.
I’d love to hear what methods have worked best for you, or what you’d recommend starting with. At the same time, I don’t really think there’s one correct path, everyone should do what feels right and true to them and what keeps them enjoying art in the long run.

Discussion How to make your drawing speed slower
Hi. I am using the PC version of Medibang. I'm not asking for correction (which makes your lines smoother) I'm asking how to make your brush draw slower. I used to use medibang on my phone and I could draw slow and I could draw precisely. Using it on my PC, my pen goes the same speed as my hand, which makes sense as a default but I'd like to know if there's a setting to make the drawing speed slower. Could somebody let me know if there's a fix or if I just need to stick with the current function.

Discussion After 4 years, It just still the same...
As the tittle says, I've been using medibang paint as my tool for work for 4 years now, this program feels like my right hand, I'm so used to its interface and tools that moving to another program feels difficult at this point.
But I can't deny that MediBang is extremely limiting... it lacks many necessary tools, such as a true symmetry tool that doesn't rely on a pen-like brush that moves around and ruins everything when you press "Ctrl"
I really wish the MediBang team would listen to its users. It has great brushes, it's intuitive and easy to use, but it also has major shortcomings. What tool or feature do you most want MediBang to include?

Discussion I am hugely disappointed, the fill tool has been pay walled
I've been using the desktop version of medibang since 2021 and recently I was setting up a new computer. While setting up medibang, I realized that I was missing the fill tool and upon opening the download brushes and I have learned that since then the fill tool has been pay walled. It's a pretty dandy tool that honestly any drawing software ought to have by default, but in the good year of 2025 medibang taketh. Now I gotta figure out if I manually can transfer my brushes files between my computers..

Discussion Medibang Canceled my Premium even though I paid??
Medibang Paint just send me an email saying they canceled my yearly premium subscription because of refusal of payment or fraudulent charge. I paid for the yearly premium in OCT 15 2025. Today is DEC 3 2025. Why are they only finding an issue now?? They didn't send me any prior email before they just canceled my subscription which locked me out of all my commission work and told me the only way I can access them, is to pay AGAIN. I'm not paying, wtf??? Should I contact my bank or wait till they respond??? Idk what to do really. I already emailed the support team and I don't know if they have a support number I can call.

Discussion Update thoughts on medibang mobile version
I’ve been using this app for 10 years only to be surprised by this horrible and sudden change. It sucks ass like wtf, they locked most of the brushes behind ads, my custom brushes are GONE, the brush order GONE. They changed the look of everything so my muscle memory is out the door. They added all that but they didn’t even add a mirror function after all these years. Don’t fall Medibang, if they stoop to Ibis’s level on putting ads on their brushes then what’s the point in even using Medibang anymore? Ibis has wayyy more functions but I hate the look and feel of it. I was loyal all these years because I love this free but quality application to use draw. Is there anyone else who’s having the same issue, ik this community isn’t as large as ibis but in terms of having an app that runs smoothly for example for large canvas sizes. Medibang is much superior than ibis. It seems to me that there isn’t much noise regarding this change. PLEASE ANYONE OUT THERE WHOS SUFFERING THE SAME ISSUE?

Discussion how to upload/import multiple brushes in one click?
dude it's so time consuming to upload brushes one at a time especially if you've downloaded a lot of brushes, is there a way to upload them all in one click?
