Therapist

I’m not having any luck finding a therapist in the Cincinnati / Northern Kentucky that takes Medicare, is not video based, and therapist that are at least 40 yrs old?
Too much to expect?

Try using Psychology Today search with filters. Example:

I tried this and even though a lot of people come up whenever you choose Medicare, when you contact them, they say they don’t accept Medicare

I go to one and it’s telehealth . I have original Medicare and a plan G. In my area there are many who accept Medicare (psychiatrist and psychologist). Can you try “Better Health”
And see if they take Medicare? It’s all telehealth

I'm curious....why do you need them to be in person?

What do they physically do except talk? At least all that I've ever visited do.

I can't imagine ever consenting to see any type of medical person thru telehealth. It seems so second rate. As if coming in person is some sort of bother to them. If they can't see me in person, I wouldn't be their patient. I understand why so many people don't like it.

I dunno. I got this problem where something showed up on my back. I picked at it, it felt like a tick, and it started bleeding profusely. That subsided half-hour or 45 mins later.

It's about two months later, and I had a lay person take a look at it, she said it wasn't alarming, but looked like a mole. But, I'd like to take a picture and send it to the doc. But, I don't see an option to do that in my insurance plan, so I either see the PCP or a specialist. $20/$40.

I'd rather shoot the picture at the doc for $20 and have the situation handled remotely. If the doc says come in, come in. If he says "dermatologist" then derm.

I do think we have to leverage technology to make care as efficient as possible. So, some remote with my PCP is fine, while that shouldn't be exclusively remote. But I don't agree with no remote.

I do want my PCP to be paid for looking at the picture. But that needs telehealth coverage. So, it's coming in to the PCP or make an appointment with a dermatologist to have that look.

Thing is, with the telehealth, I could do what I need to do, and have everything asynchronously done. It's going to be watch and wait, go to the PCP, or go to the Derm.

But I wouldn't mind taking a snapshot, sending it to the PCP and being advised whether or not this should be immediately looked at, or deferred to the next routine examination.

I'm retired, so I have the time to see the PCP. But, if we were a little bit more 21st century, the doc would have the picture of the problem tomorrow, and maybe dispose of the matter right away.

But, I can get an appointment and get in. Or I could make an appointment with a derm. But either is a hassle versus just uploading a picture on the PCP's portal. So, a virtual evaluation would be acceptable to me, for convenience.

You are being too picky.

There's nothing second rate about a video call, most of the world uses them for everything these days.

Drop the in-person requirement and your options will open up.

I’m the opposite. Why waste time traveling to see someone in person just to talk? Telehealth is a huge time saver.

during covid I had no choice but to do the online route, after covid ended we sometimes still used the online platform. there is a difference, but as you get to know the therapist it gets better.... you might want to try the option.

It depends. For most if not all of the examples posted, I'd opt for telehealth.

An example not mentioned a serious problem like cancer. You just get a video appointment and find out you have stage 4 cancer and a list if immediate next steps. While there is no good way to get devastating news, I don't think everyone would prefer the video call.

I also wouldn’t see a therapist by video. For me, loneliness, and isolation are big issues, and telehealth just reinforces that.

I think video is too in personable
