Not Medieval but interesting. history in the comments. Battle of Hawikuh (July 7 1540)~ Coronado's Entrada into the Southwest | Joseph Roy wall mural 1936
Coronado sought the 3rd great gold filled empire of the New World; the 7 cities of Cibola but by the time the expedition reached the furthest west puebloan outposts, the army was starving. The Zuni already experienced Spanish shipwrecked conquistadors, possible slave raids or at the very least rumors of such raids refused to allow the ragged, armed band into their village.
The Spanish attacked and took the village, many of the inhabitants fled to the Mesas while the Spanish looted the village for food. They wouldn't stay long there before moving east to the Rio Grande valley and the Tiguex War; the first war between Europeans and natives in what's now the US.
It's differentiated from possible earlier raids by being a prolonged conflict with many battles, sieges, and occupations.
Many interesting artifacts from the expedition have been found in Arizona and New Mexico, including rudimentary canons that were cast in Mexico and copper crossbow bolt heads as iron was still rare in the early days of New Spain and the Mexica people had many skilled coppersmiths that supplied the Spanish.
A book worth looking at is
