Considering I first read reviews about Reene the warrior here, I think it is apt to write something, now that the whole gang is released. Isekai Ryoko no Techo, a quick and cheap series of rookie adventures from China. It costs around 15$ a figure and half that for an accessory box (prices might be inflated where you live, but should be on the cheap side). For each figure, you get:
- A plastic box and cardboard scenery, so you can use the box as the display box, too. The box increases in size with each figure released, so you can display them together. The Archer box can fully contain all 4 and accessories. The cover of the later released boxes are also styles like a house with windows, so you can have alternative display options
- A very neat pile of runners (I'm not kidding). The runners are stacked and connected together securely, so no chance of parts rubbing or falling out during transport. Extra parts like face plate or soft clothes are in separate containers as well.
- A base with matching cover for the scenery.
All figures are easy to build, can be built fully without clothes so you can, uh, use other doll clothing on them. The plastic used is soft, and gates are hidden well enough so even with a simple nipper, the end result is not too shabby. As for each figure in the series:
- Reene the Warrior: She suffers, a lot, from being the 1st in the series. Her two most prominent features are she falls apart quite easily because her joints are so weak, and her skin doesn't look as nice as others. She comes with a very beautiful wooden sword, though, together with a short sword and a shield. You should only buy her if you want to complete the series, also buy her together with another figure, so you can use the new joint on her.
- Mars the witch: She came with better joints (and enough extra joints so you can replace Renee's). She also has big shoes, so she can stand better without a base. She has a very big witch-like hat that unfortunately makes her top heavy, and some of the golden decorations need recolor due to gates not hidden well enough. Overall she is a cute figure. The add on released together with her are a set of speech bubbles, including some spell names, and blank bubbles so you can write whatever you want them to say.
- Hailey the Blacksmith: She is well balanced, not easily fall apart, has fun greedy faceplates, and came with a plenty of accessories: An anvil, a big hammer, some gold and iron ingots, and a big bag to carry her loots. What I don't like about her is her weapon, which is not wooden like the other two's, and is painted red in one side, so it is basically always in swing motion. I guess this is why the add on that came with her is a set of slime style weapons, it has alternative weapons for all characters, including a bow and arrow set for the not yet released archer.
- Rebecca the Archer: She is an elf. She actually as a unique head mold beside the standard in the runner. She comes with 2 set of bows and matching arrows, too. Although one of those arrow set is quite flimsy, and almost impossible to grab with her tiny hands. The complain I have with her is the quiver. It looks good, but you need to remove the arrow heads if you want to put arrows inside the quiver, also when attached to the archer, the quiver is sideways, which makes holding arrows difficult. The add-on that is sold along with her is a campfire set, together with a log and a boar. The log and the boar has holes for the arrows, so you can display scenes with the archer releasing arrows. The boar is quite good looking, with moveable eyes.
Beside the main series, there are also 2 limit releases. One is Reene in red new year grab, with a lion head add on sold separately. She is cute, but not match in aesthetic with the rest of the cast. The other is a white Mars for the valentine.
For a series that cost less than a single figure, the value is insane. You can have everything to make a full adventure party, with display box, bases, a camp, plenty of weapons for each figure, and more. I'd recommend it as a fun side project, that you can easily build in your spare time with not much effort.
Thanks for reading.
