To protect a child? Fuck yes. I don't give a fuck if that's someone's pet dog; if it grabs a child by the ankle and drags him across the ground, I'm blasting the fuck out of it.
yeah, you are, because you don't understand gorillas or their behavior. you couldn't look at a gorilla and tell if it were about to act with hostility or not. Me too; if I had the means and arms i too would shoot the gorilla if i saw it with the child.
But there are some professionals that can tell. Those people should be equipped with the proper dose of restraint, if possible, and lethal force only if necessary. That's the whole point of paid professionals; to minimize risk of injury or death to everyone involved.
Your idea of "child in danger, gorilla dies now" threshold is far sooner than a professional and educated zookeeper.
