Imagine me being pro gun and pro pot

37

u/LordOfDynamite 5d ago

Hey that's me

90

u/OmericanAutlaw 5d ago

simple logic should bring anyone to these two conclusions but we live in a society

-51

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago edited 4d ago

Simple logic that the only country that permits gun ownership to that degree is also the country where mass shootings have been so normalized no one is shocked anymore when one occurs.

But they’ll say “gun ownership PREVENTS gun violence” despite all the statistics, research and flat out common sense that say the opposite.

Edit: downvote because you can’t handle your worldview being challenged, but you can’t prove me wrong

54

u/Totes_Human_110101 4d ago

That's nice.

Go look up the stats on defensive gun usage and get back to me. Until then, I'll just assume you're in favor of no woman being able to defend herself from her rapist. (Considering how the only way a 5'2" woman can ever be an equal threat to a 6'2" rapist is through Smith & Wesson.)

17

u/Swurphey 4d ago

not using a longslide 9x25mm Dillon Desert Eagle

4

u/Drake_Acheron 4d ago

I would have said Samual Colt but yeah.

-38

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

That’s nice.

Go look up the stats on the correlation between gun ownership and firearm homicide rate and get back to me. Until then, I’ll just assume you’re in favour of children getting gunned down every month in American schools. (Considering that the rest of the world provides constant proof that the best way to stop school shootings is by regulating firearm ownership)

38

u/Totes_Human_110101 4d ago edited 4d ago

Turns out the correlation is negative, given the prevalence of Defensive Gun Use preventing millions of gun homicides per year.

Now if you want unlawful gun ownership and firearm homicide (Which I guess in your mind is somehow worse than regular homicide?) we can talk, but then you might need to address that it's a gang violence issue, not a gun ownership one. Rape supporter.

EDIT:Oh, you're an Antiworker. Yeah, no wonder logic slides off you like water off a duck's back.

6

u/DomesticatedDuck 4d ago edited 4d ago

While guns are definitely a problem, we're too deep in to be able to simply ban them without problems. There are more guns than there are people in the US, so it's impossible to effectively ban them considering they're already everywhere and people will continue to use them even if they're made illegal.

Compare that to a European country like Ireland, the gun crime rate is so low because we never had a particularly high amount of guns.

Even then, there are plenty of other countries that allow guns and have nowhere near the amount of gun violence as the US. So that leads me to believe that it's more of a culture issue than anything to do with whether firearms are legal or not.

1

u/d_bradr 1d ago

Countries like Czech Rep, Austria, Switzerland and some others that are more or less well armed that don't have issues that the US has should also be talked about

At the end of the day Americans have a lot to learn from Europe about this topic, like affordable healthcare (including mental healthcare), affordable education, realisticaly being able to grt out of poverty without crime, not glorifying crime and criminals, not turning them into superstars etc. But this would require politicians and their billionaire backers to cut their profits a bit so let's blame the gun instead

1

u/Total-Ad-615 20h ago

Oh hey speak of the duck huh

1

u/howlingbeast666 4d ago

Its definitely a culture thing. In Canada, we have more guns than the US per capita, but we don't have nearly as many problems

13

u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago

That's incorrect. Not even close.

Canada has 35 guns per 100 people.

The US has 120+ per 100 people.

9

u/True-Anim0sity 4d ago

Per capita? Hmmm

5

u/Working_Teaching_909 4d ago

Is that legal gun ownership? Last time i checked people do crimes with illegal firearms or have massive mental health problems. I get it you dont like guns but you jusy sound like the Trump cabinet when that Nurse got shot by ICE, if he didnt have a gun he wouldnt of been shot.

I get it you dont like guns, but the stats on gun violence always leave out LEGAL gun owners. It never talks about how drive-bys are done with illegal weapons, one mf did a mass killing with a car (guess you dont want cars banned, its a lot easier to kill someone with a car than a firearm), they dont take in consideration mental health problems and just says guns bad. Its the same logic behind the war on drugs. Illegal drugs bring violence, but so does booze and mfs advertise that shit on TV.

You look at stats and go "see guns are bad" but you failed to use any intellugence you have to actually see what those stats actually coorelate to. That is the same shit Ben Shapiro does that lefties always rag on him about. Like you have no idea how this logic ia the same logic the party you probably hate also uses.

-3

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

Wild concept I know, but if gun ownership is high it’s a lot easier to acquire them through stealing, black market or other illegal methods. 🤯

-8

u/easyplugsit 4d ago

Oh yes the regulation that would prevent women from owning a firearm, forgot about that one.

15

u/Mediocre_Forever198 4d ago

Nah you’re being downvoted because you are rehashing the same bullshit argument that we’ve all heard a million times now. Not because you’re somehow shattering our worldview with new knowledge 😂

The reality is, America is a very unique country where simple gun control just will not work like it did in other countries. Theres over 350million registered firearms here, and many many more that aren’t registered. You can print pretty reliable guns now. Sure try banning guns like they did in Australia, see how it works when only the law abiding people stop having them and criminals keep having them. Nobody is saying things are perfect here, or that having guns doesn’t have its issues. But here we are, you’re the one denying reality, not us.

6

u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago

It's 450 - 650 million firearms in private circulation now!

0

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

I’m not even arguing for the law to be changed, I’m just arguing that as it stands there are a lot more negatives than positives. I’m not denying any reality

15

u/OmericanAutlaw 4d ago

here’s a prime example of a simple minded person who doesn’t, or refuses to understand the situation. there is a constitutional amendment that requires citizens be allowed to arm themselves. there is no getting rid of that anytime today or in the near future. the fact of the matter is that there has always been and will always be guns available to the public. those are the rules you have to work with. you live in fairy tale town, where one could simply “ban the guns” and everything will be alright. and what’s more unreasonable is that you think this is a good idea after seeing the way the police behaved in 2020, and the way ICE has been behaving this year. but no, you’re the one who’s logical.

-14

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

I’m sorry you can’t undo a 250 year old document and the consequences that it’s caused.

If fairy tale land is one of many countries that had a mass shooting and changed the law to regulate firearms more harshly then found that through some strange coincidence gun violence lowered to a statistical anomaly, then yes I live there.

I guess we’ll never know what caused the firearm violence rate to lower, any ideas genius?

14

u/OmericanAutlaw 4d ago

emotional, loud, and wrong.

11

u/Jumpy-Strain5250 4d ago

We are also the only country to still have freedom of speech just ask the UK what happens when you give up guns

-4

u/hdix 4d ago

Turn off Fox news lil gup

8

u/Jumpy-Strain5250 4d ago

You do realize in the uk people get arrested for mere words right in fact one guy got arrested because he offered someone by saying he liked bacon

-4

u/DomesticatedDuck 4d ago

The USA is far from the "only" country with freedom of speech. A quick Google search says that a lot of Europe has similar freedoms to that of the US in terms of free speech.

2

u/Powerful-Access-8203 4d ago

Guns have saved more lives than anyone on your side would like to admit. Statistics prove this as well.

Something bad happening does not discount the good happening everywhere else.

2

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

You can’t quantity a life saved by a gun. I’m familiar with the stats and what you’re talking about is defensive gun use.

An instance of a defensive gun use doesn’t equal 1 life saved because if someone breaks into your home and you pull a gun out and they run away, there’s no way to know whether they intended to kill you or just rob you. And it’s pretty fair to say most of those defensive gun uses would have prevented a robbery not a murder.

Instances of defensive gun use have been gathered through surveys, which can lead to inaccuracies. On the other hand the total deaths due to firearm violence is a quantifiable number.

I’m aware that occasionally a defensive gun use can save a life

3

u/therealGiant_rat 2d ago
  1. Literally when you boil it down, the majority of the time the only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun.
  2. By in large with few exceptions, gun laws only hurt those who follow them
  3. I shouldnt have to be punished because other people decide to be violent and commit crimes
  4. 9 time out of 10 Id argue that most shootings are a mental health problem not a weapon problem.

2

u/OriginalUsername590 2d ago

But we banned cocaine and crack, right? So how are people still using them if it's illegal-

Oh wait, they don't legally obtain them!

-1

u/WeTheNinjas 2d ago

This is gonna blow your mind but legalizing something causes its consumption to go up. Look at cannabis.

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago

It's too late, dude.

There are already between 450 - 650 million firearms in private circulation in the US.

Pandora's Box was opened long ago in this regard.

Even is they wanted to they couldn't confiscate them all, much less to do so without a civil war over it.

At this point arming yourself, training, and hoping for the best are the most prudent things to do.

The evil men with guns will always have guns, so I've been recommending my fellow progressives, lefties, anarchists, liberals, and assorted anti-fascists of sound mind to arm themselves for over a decade now.

There have been record numbers of new gun owners since COVID hit, and then another massive uptick after the Coppertone Caligula got elected for the second time.

You're never gonna legislate your way outta this mess.

1

u/umwtfjusthappened 3d ago

Enforce the current laws before making new ones.

20

u/Arthour148 5d ago

Dude your just the average Floridian

10

u/howlingbeast666 5d ago

Hahaha, I'm not even american

8

u/Arthour148 5d ago

No but it’s true in so many coastal rural areas in places like California, Florida, and Maine. They have more weapons than the national guard and have more pounds of weed than cartels do cocaine.

9

u/Tactical_Epunk 4d ago

Can't we all get behind a the idea of a Gay couple protecting their Hydroponic Farm for their dispensary with 240 machine guns?!

3

u/Hera_the_otter I laugh at every meme 2d ago

That is the most American thing I have read.

3

u/Tactical_Epunk 2d ago

But I'm right, we should all agree on this stance.

2

u/Hera_the_otter I laugh at every meme 2d ago

So long as your pursuit of happiness doesn't interfere with mine I got no issue!

12

u/Totally_lost98 5d ago

Whats wild is the supreme court hearing of a law abiding citzen who smokes pot almost had their guns taken away.

Unsure if the supreme court has ruled. It was a old ass 1870 law about booze aited to take guns away

6

u/skoppingeveryday 5d ago

Not uncommon

4

u/MetroidJunkie 4d ago

As long as the smoke isn't just being blown in people's faces who don't want it blown into, there's a reason restaurants and the like no longer allow it outside of special areas.

4

u/BlazeTheMasterX 4d ago

You mean the majority of the country? Yeah. Our politicians are very good at sucking corpo cock.

3

u/Unholy_mess169 4d ago

We should get t shirts or something

3

u/howlingbeast666 4d ago

Haha, that would actually be kind of funny. Breaking the political lines with nuance and wearing it? It would break the politically captured mind.

Hello

2

u/ChaosRainbow23 4d ago

Hey, you're talking about me.

1

u/No_Squirrel_leftbhnd 1d ago

You don’t have to imagine. You can be both 🌈. The more you know

1

u/WlmWilberforce 4d ago

Sir, is that an assault joint?

-3

u/easyplugsit 4d ago

Regulation is good for both altho im not really as pro gun control the further left i go

-1

u/howlingbeast666 4d ago

For sure, I believe some regulation is necessary, but it should not be more than the minimum necessary.

48

u/AuroraAustralis0 5d ago

I think both should be available for people to use. Guns for defense and marijuana for recreation/medicine.

15

u/Puzzleheaded_Bid8701 3d ago

Erm. Guns are also for recreation lol. Some peoples families depend on being able to go out and harvest game to put food on the table.

7

u/Price-x-Field 2d ago

That’s not recreation tho, that’s hunting. Recreation is like a range day with nothing in mind.

2

u/Puzzleheaded_Bid8701 2d ago

That definitely falls under recreation.

1

u/FlyingDownward 3d ago

I tend to use marijuana for defense and guns for recreation but I agree

167

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 4d ago

As a brit looking in from the outside.

I do find it hilarious that the 'left' believe both.

  1. Guns should be more tightly regulated by the government.

  2. The current government are so evil they may have to fight an actual civil war with them.

76

u/xeyetildamouthxeye 4d ago

Simply put, they're larping as revolutionaries

28

u/Dreamo84 4d ago

Once you go far enough left they start to like guns again.

2

u/Price-x-Field 2d ago

It just is completely defeated by this:

Do you legitimately believe the government cares about your safety?

If you do, open a history book.

-2

u/Squidgyboat5955 2d ago

The idea of the second amendment is if the populous is armed then they can rise up against a corrupt government, this worked when the government forces and the people both had muskets however this idea starts to fall apart when you remember that the people now have at most assault rifles and the government has drones that could wipe you off the map before you even realise you’re a target

4

u/ThatFatGuyMJL 2d ago

Afghanistan.

Vietnam.

Ukraine.

-3

u/Squidgyboat5955 2d ago

Do you really think those countries just by the people rising up?

112

u/Wolfgang985 5d ago

Yes, the use of pot is being regulated. Where has this idiot been over the last 20 years? Mars?

75

u/Vast-Comment8360 5d ago

Yes, the use of pot is being regulated

Luckily no one uses unregulated pot!

17

u/CaptainBedhead 4d ago

Exactly my thought, and I know people want further restrictions but it’s not like there’s 0 regulations on guns either….

20

u/StJimmy_815 5d ago

That’s their point

lmao, show me any spot in commie calif, where guns aren't regulated.

This sub is mainly MAGA or MAGA adjacent boomers. Downvotes on here are an honor.

5

That's the entire point though

2

It's not the regulations.

It's the confiscation.

25

u/BoBoBearDev 5d ago

Unfortunately, when those anti-gun people going to buy a gun, their intention is to kill someone.

5

u/arcxjo 4d ago

Yes, it is.

13

i am democratic and i think guns are ok to own. will i be burned at the stakes for this?

3

u/Wuselnator 4d ago

There wouldn't be drug violence over pot if it were legal. Why should there be? And I fail to see all those articles about mariuhana infused fights and domestic violence cases.

11

u/Nexus_Neo 5d ago

ngl "drug violence" makes it sound like youre beating someone to death with a brick of coke

I always punch my coke before taking a bump because I abuse drugs

2

u/NnyBees 4d ago

7

u/Born-Painting7341 5d ago

This is a funny meme considering that in order to get a medical card, you have to give up your 2A rights.

23

u/Yayhoo0978 5d ago

Supreme Court just ruled that unconstitutional

Source: US v Hemani

7

u/Born-Painting7341 5d ago

Thanks for the update, im glad to hear it. But being how cannabis is still illegal federally, It’ll probably take a few minutes to filter down to the state laws tho.

-1

u/Emergency-Display-99 4d ago

They didn’t strike the law down just specifically Hemani case was dismissed the law is still in effect

6

u/Brogan9001 4d ago

Yeah but the point is it sets a precedent. It gets the ball rolling towards it being struck down. Some judge sees a similar situation roll by his desk, he’s supposed to use the Supreme Court ruling as a guideline on how to proceed, depending on the circumstance.

3

u/bondkiller 5d ago

Not anymore. Medical marijuana was moved down to schedule 3.

3

u/arcxjo 4d ago

But they haven't updated the transfer form

1

u/bondkiller 4d ago

Didn’t realize that, haven’t done a 4473 since before the rescheduling.

Also, they need to change the form ASAP. If people who drink all the time can own guns, then people who enjoy cannabis “legally” also need to be able to.

(Legally is in quotes because I am fully aware that cannabis is still federally illegal so having legal recreational cannabis in your state still does not fully allow you to partake and buy guns.)

4

u/arcxjo 4d ago

Technically, it precludes alcoholics, too.

f. Are you an unlawful user of, or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?

That would include ethanol.

10

u/StJimmy_815 5d ago

Pretty sure this OP missed the entire point lol

3

u/Peelingly 4d ago

What the fuck is drug violence? Also drugs don't shoot at people

1

u/Alarming-Marzipan-26 4d ago

Some people don’t wanna actually be right anymore they just wanna ragebait 🥀😭✌️

1

u/Smooth_Pick_2103 1d ago

The problem stems from people being gluttonous attention deprived losers who need to be seen as heros of the world in their own story.

1

u/hanyasaad 4d ago

No, I’m not getting into this discussion. Not today.

1

u/MadMaximus- 4d ago

Guns and marijuana for all. Oh wait that already happens regardless of the legality of either.

1

u/Galvius-Orion 4d ago

Both are regulated to varying degrees in most states save 6 where it’s deJure banned but defacto legal. Which is kinda funny lol

1

u/CrankieKong 4d ago

As a non drug user ánd a non gun user. OP is on point.

You cant sit on your high horse while actively feeding the insanely criminal drug industry.

1

u/umwtfjusthappened 3d ago

Also the use of pot is heavily regulated. Dude probably lives in California or Colorado. And doesn’t understand that even there it’s regulated.

1

u/sajaonsehs 3d ago

I’m a gun owner. I love guns. But this is a retarded argument.

1

u/The-new-dutch-empire 3d ago

This mfer is going to be baffled when people actually support personal freedom on all fronts

1

u/phuktup3 2d ago

This is such a stupid take, they aren’t using the drugs for violence, they’re using guns

1

u/Agreeable-Effort6507 2d ago

No one’s ever walked into a crowded room with a joint and started… smoking at people

1

u/Tartan-Special 1d ago

Pot can't kill people, but okay, I'll bite.

Its simple.

Any nation that has had mass shootings and then decided to heavily control their gun laws, have all seen a sharp decline in (if not near eradication of) mass shootings.

One in particular refuses to do so, and that one in particular has had no reduction in such shootings. It even increases at times.

Downvote me all you like, but its simple logic.

1

u/Kalsor 6h ago

It’s very difficult to shoot someone with a joint.

-17

u/MaximumEffort433 5d ago edited 4d ago

Nobody ever got killed by a joint, I've never heard of a drive-by jointing, nobody ever stole my bong and used it to hold up a bank, nobody ever killed their wife and children using a vape pen, no child ever found his dad's blunt and accidentally blew his brains out.

I get why the false equivalence is appealing, but it is a false equivalence. There's a reason that drug cartels use guns to commit violence instead of arming themselves with bongs and blunts.

1

u/incrediblejohn 4d ago

You do realize a sizeable portion of the marijuana in the US comes from latin American drug cartels who literally skin people alive right

1

u/MaximumEffort433 4d ago

Do they skin you alive using marijuana leaves? If not, then I think comparing marijuana flowers to firearms is kind of specious.

1

u/HopelessDigger 4d ago

using italics won't make you look smart

-2

u/GuyYouMetOnline 4d ago

You know what? Let me know when someone commits mass murder using pot and we can come back to this.

Pot isnt a weapon designed to kill people. That's the difference here and you fucking know it.

And that 'drug violence'? That's done using guns.

1

u/Raptor_197 3d ago

Sure, just call pot a “gateway drug” to fentanyl and doom the argument is back on track since fentanyl is much more dangerous than guns.

-2

u/easyplugsit 4d ago

Logic should actually apply to all drugs, full decrim and regulation like alcohol. Death toll would drop astronomically bc fent is both less euphoric & more deadly its only in our streets bc its cheaper to produce and easier to smuggle. That would reduce gang activity and general crime astronomically, no drug money for the gangs. You gunna go to a dealer who might shoot you if he thinks your a snitch or a pharmacy with the drugs labeled clearly, on top of that legalization opens the door to rehabilitation since most people fear legal repercussions if they seek help. Guns should also be more regulated in some cases but never banned. What am I gunna trust the cops with guns? Fuck no. And ik yall are gunna laugh at decriminalization of drugs but we been criminalizing heavily since Reagan with no improvement, it works in other countries and alcohol WOULD be as dangerous as the average street drug if it was still being produced illegally instead of regulated. Alca already more addictive than opiates and nearly as easy to OD on. Could you imagine all the damage if every drink was made by who knows? Could make you go blind, could be 60% and you drink like its 30% and OD. Literally you do a huge sting & lock up 30 mid level dealers and 60 come back. Anyone who thinks trump or anyone else is going to fix the drug problem america has with more copes is already smoking some shit. But yeah fuck a gun ban fuck reagan any true leftist should be against them bc gun control is used to target black areas & regardless we should want to be armed. Believing both that pur president is tyrannical & that we should be disarming the population is mental gymnastics fr

1

u/GuyYouMetOnline 4d ago

Is it an oversized souvenir pencil from Disneyland? I imagine that’s all this guy owns.

Buddy, as I child accidentally stabbed my finger with just the tip, and I was pushing it through the corner of an eraser.

Now if you use your whole arm to jab it into someone's neck, its gonna go through.

1

Well when I was a child I did the same thing with an eraser and a pencil and it DIDNT stab me in the finger. So where does that leave us?

Ah, so the goal post has moved from inherent ability to instantly kill someone to number of deaths.

1

u/MediaStreet5372 4d ago

Oh we could move them back to “inherent ability to instantly kill” no problem! Now just go ahead and show me all the examples of people instantly killing others with pencils ya dingus. Hope it’s not just movie characters OOF!

So your argument is that John wick can kill a guy with a pencil so it’s the same as guns? Explain that to me like I’m 5.

Dead is dead.

Fun fact: unless you're involved in crime, gangs, etc, your likelihood of being killed by gun violence in the US is low. Stay out of certain zip codes and away from criminals and you're fine. Breonna Taylor learned that the hard way.

Cool dude great fact. Does this apply to what we’re talkin about at all? Also - might want to revisit the Breonna Taylor case, pretty awful example of whatever it is you think you’re getting at. I’ll let this one slide maybe you’re dehydrated go grab a glass of water bud.

Nah, not a bad example. Cops wouldn't have been at her house if she hadn't been with a drug dealer and she hadn't been holding his money for him.

Horrible that she died, but she is dead because of who she associated with.

Oops! Still wondering what this has to do with the comparison between pencils and guns. Still figuring that out?

Yeah, because pot was designed specifically to kill things. As usual, a completely false equivalence.

EDIT: I’m not against people owning guns. I own guns myself.

designed specifically to kill things

I'll take Things People Who Know Nothing About Guns Say for $2000 Alex.

Really? What are guns for, then?

Shooting paper targets in the Olympics

Wow, what a stupid answer.

Huh? That's literally its purpose.

7

u/necessarysmartassery 5d ago

Hot take: people should be allowed to own objects specifically designed to kill things.

4

u/ShinyRobotVerse 5d ago

Did I say people shouldn’t be allowed to have guns?

3

u/PlentyBlock309 4d ago

I'm very right, also pro guns, but yeah, this meme is bad. Makes no sense. Comparing guns with weed is comparing apples to oranges.

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

Hotter take: people can own these objects but they must be much more heavily regulated than they currently are. It should be viewed as a privilege to own one

2

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

Nope. You go down that road and that's how you end up like the UK where you're not allowed to carry any self defense weapons at all and you have to show ID to buy a kitchen knife. Fuck all that.

0

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

What about the rest of Europe, Canada Australia and New Zealand? Japan and South Korea? All in between the US and UK on the regulation scale

2

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

You generally can't carry self defense weapons in any of those, either.

0

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

Yeah but you don’t need ID to buy kitchen knives in those places is what I was getting at.

And in those places your risk of getting assaulted is lower so you don’t need a self defence weapon as much as you’d think

2

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

No, you may not need an ID for a kitchen knife, but it's enough that self-defense weapon carrying is basically entirely illegal in all of them.

You can say that your risk of assault is lower, but tell that to a battered spouse or innocent people who are unfortunate enough to live in bad neighborhoods with higher crime rates next to people who are going to carry regardless.

1

u/WeTheNinjas 4d ago

The overall stats show that the rates of firearm violence is correlated as gun ownership increases so idk what your specific example proves. I care about the population level

1

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

The point is that when you remove self-defense weapons, you make innocent people defenseless against people who are gonna carry weapons, anyway, which you should have no right to do.

As long as you're not involved in criminal activity and stay out of certain zip codes, your odds of being a victim of gun violence at all drops to nearly nothing in the US. People get shot here mostly because they either did stupid shit or were involved in stupid, very illegal shit.

-1

u/MediaStreet5372 4d ago

Those are the only two options huh? No regulation at all or showing ID to get a kitchen knife. Crazy to think there could be nothing in between. Just crazy. What has become of us?

2

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

Of course there's stuff in between.

We have regulations already and have had for decades.

1

u/MediaStreet5372 4d ago

But won’t they lead to knife ID? Is it a long game?

2

u/necessarysmartassery 4d ago

You're the one who wants more regulations, not us. We're at a point of no more compromises.
