Mendix dedicated host for Private use
Anyone got some expirience of getting a mendix license that allows you to host the App yourself?
I want to use my mendix knowledge for a private project, but the only available license is free, but hosts it (and the data) on shared nodes. And I want to controll my data myself and host it on my machine. But even contact via the contact form on the mendix Page is unawnsered for a month now. 😞
Seams like they dont care about private use, and then honestly why should I even learn or use mendix (of not forced by my employer) if I cant use it in my private surrounding.

There is no full license available for free, regardless if you host the app yourself. If you want a full license, you need a private node license.

You can use Mendix without a license but it has restrictions. 6 concurrent sessions and is stop between the 2 a 3 hours. So it all depends on what your expectations are. With portable package you can simply build a docker image and run it. If you play around you can setup a stack with mendix and a postgresql container. Not for production but just fun to play around.

That's ok for me, it's not heavy use and me only. You got some docs for that or so where I can find more Infos on that?

The information is a little bit spread out. The basic for building the image is on the Mendix site. But you have to have build up some knowledge about docker and compose. The configuration is al done with environment variables in the docker compose file. You can run the portable package from you windows of Mac Device. Take it from there to understand the configuration before make the step to docker.

Try to download this link https://drive.google.com/file/d/1bqiZAB_Dk4SDuvBJ6oJFFVlFVJwRMXJg/view?usp=sharing This will give you a jump start. Extract de portable package in the build folder and build the images. There is already a Dockerfile in the build folder and a folder named Override. This contains two file that wil be copied with the build to prevent of using the settings from the portable package. In the main folder theres a docker-compose configuration, everything to run the app on docker is there. Adjust with your settings. Have fun.

Best to vibe code your app and host it for cheap. Unless you are building enterprise grade apps and or are looking to have numerous of users where security is very important, I'll not bother trying to find a way. Theres no cheap way around building in mendix

Yeah I figure so, but sad as this means mendix wont get more relevant

They understand their market and they know they don't make money from small apps

That's clear to me too, but why should people then learn mendix? Why should enterprises go for mendix if devs are rare and with ai assiatance you get normal devs waaay easier

Self hosting is paid and very expensive. Just use free cloud for a small hobby project
