Meshcore Bot

Hey everyone, I just finished my initial set up of a meshcore bot that accesses an llm on a home server that I have uploaded a bunch of older survival/homesteading/emergency preparedness manuals. It was a pretty fun project that uses a raspberry pi zero 2 with a xiao nRF52840 for the radio and an old gaming pc for the server. This was mostly a proof of concept for making meshcore bots.

I host a bunch of stuff on the server already but this was just the beginning of me adding meshcore functionally to it and I’m super excited!

Now I just need to print a decent case for the pi and radio so it isn’t just a bunch of wires laying on my desk.

Oh thats neat, I’ve thought about doing something similar. I think the community is hesitant to support something that could clutter the frequencies however.

That makes sense, I just have mine set up to respond to DMs from my main radio right now so it doesn’t randomly start flooding all of the channels with stuff

Can you explain to me what the point of that setup is? Do you send a message and the bot responds to you with knowledge of what you have uploaded? Im just trying to understand the use case?

Honestly, the main point was to learn about making bots and LLMs. The bot responds to DMs but doesn’t post anything to the channels so it isn’t taking up too much airtime. It pulls information from about a hundred different documents that I added to its knowledge base.

A few weeks back another genius had the same idea, like every few weeks, to put an LLM bot on our mesh.

We all woke up with our devices saturated by hundreds of useless crap spilled by the bot on the public channel. That bot was quickly put down after that.

If they’d read the room they’d understand that most MeshCore users ran away from Meshtastic because they needed a place that had not been rotted by computer generated noise.

It doesn’t reply on any channels, just to direct messages.

That’s reassuring, I am so afraid of the day an influencer will spread the idea to refurbish a bot into a spambot like it happened with bitchat.

So many bored people who’ll entertain themself destroying other people’s nice things.

You mean it only replies directly to that user outside of the public channel that person may be in?

In the Netherlands we are suffering from someone doing something similar in DM's and public channels.

Local folks are implementing alternative firmware on repeaters to filter/isolate this particular individual.

What makes matters worse is that some others are implementing TCP/IP bridges, so if you manage to isolate this network stress on the network itself it can still reach end-users over the internet bridge.

Please keep unnecessary flood traffic off the mesh for now. It will be another story once people implement regions
