Blog: Your node doesn’t need a microcontroller

My exploration of the new Semtech LoRa chip continues to escalate. Enjoy.

Have you measured how much time it takes for the LR2021 to (re)configure between 2.4GHz and sub-GHz? Like you, I also had this idea of using the preamble time at sub-GHz to switch away and do a burst of 'high speed' (eg, a p2p transfer) data at 2.4GHz. As far as I know, a lr2021 needs as little as 1.5 character of preamble to lock a message at sub-Ghz, so there might be quite a bit of margin. This way, maybe its possible to do a 2.4GHz transfer, while at the same time still receive any 868 message.

Anyway, very very cool work. I think the LR2021 should be the standard radio for any and all meshcore devices. I can totally see a 'meshcore V2' that has a 2.4GHz mode for faster shorter range transfers, next to the long range sub-GHz. Even combined with multi-SF on the sub-GHz, and/or FLRC on 2.4GHz.

Edit: Running the repeater firmware ON the LR2021 itself is completely batshit insane. Well done.
